Wedding gift etiquette How much to give 2 different scenarios?
So what are the rules for a destination wedding and how much you give? I'm already spending quite a bit to go to the wedding for weekend (and am going solo/dateless) I had a family member say that 'going to the wedding was their gift' LoL I'm not so sure about that as I am getting a vaca out of it (although not a destination I would've chosen myself) But what is 'standard'?
Also does anyone else base amount they give on the wedding..for instance if it's a cash bar, with just a buffet at a VFW type hall...I don't feel I should need to give as much as say an open bar, sit down at a high end hotel/banquet hall.
**I also mention going solo/dateless as I am single and don't have another to chip in on cost**
2 AnswersEtiquette7 years agopeep toe shoes acceptable to wear in late fall/winter?
I live in MidWest (Milwaukee area) and I have several cute peep toe pumps that I hate to put away as I really didn't get chance to wear over our (very short) summer. Would it look tacky to wear now? I'm not talking full on open toes...
I've tried in past wear them with cute socks (like they sometimes show on tv/mags) but had gotten strange looks..it is MidWest after all and sometimes people tend to be bit more 'conservative'
3 AnswersFashion & Accessories8 years agoI exaggerated my education on job application Was offered job but..?
I can't start until they receive all paperwork back from background check...And well they still can't seem to verify my degree..well honestly that's because I really didn't obtain one..HR asked if maybe I either had copy of my degree or if could contact the school directly for copy.. I'm really not sure what to do.
Should I just be honest and tell them I don't actually HAVE degree and cut my losses? Or keep trying to string it along and tell them I don't have and unable to obtain...and hope they just let it go

1 AnswerOther - Careers & Employment8 years agoAm I being over sensitive? Or would this annoy you as well?
So I posted on my FB status "After being at my current position here @"Company Name" I've given my 2week notice!! ;)
Smiley wink exclamations and all
Yet I'm having "friends" comment, call, or text their apologize to me??
So I comment that NO it's time to move on..I'M giving company notice (rather than say THEM or just jumping ship quitting on spot) and that I'm exploring/taking advantage or other opportunities.
Yet some of them CLEARLY seem clueless! With as I said the apologies, oh soo sorry hope you find what your looking for stupid comments..
IDK am I getting bent out of shape for nothing? Or are these people as negative ,inconsiderate & clueless as I'm thinking they are?
1 AnswerFriends9 years agoI've given my 2wks notice @my current company...shouldn't they be trying to hire or have me train replacement?
I was really hoping that they would have an ad in trying to find my replacement by now so as I could train. Or @very least have me train someone who is already here within company who will take over some of my duties...thus far they haven't! They just keep piling more & more work on me! It's as if they are thinking let's get ALL this work out of the way before she leaves! (As they KNOW if they don't replace they'll be SCREWED!) There is NO WAY I can get to it all and they know this! My position should be FULL-TIME however they only wanted to hire/pay someone for part-time (one of the MANY reasons I'm moving to greener pastures!)
I know I really shouldn't care...but isn't the main reason you give notice so your company can find and have you train replacement?
2 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment9 years agowhat is the best way to answer pre-employment Q's such as:?
What is your current salary? It it waaaay below what I'd like to be making and honestly less than what I had made in past...I just don't want to be stuck in that salary bracket!
Also what is the proper way to explain why you are seeking other employment? Or the "What was the thing you least enjoyed at your current/ast employer" Q?
The honest answer to both is they mislead me with a salary increase and full-time hours Neither which ever came to fruitation
4 AnswersLaw & Legal9 years agoHow do I turn down more hours @my job?
I've been working part-time with my company for almost a year now. And although I DO want full-time I really don't think I want it at my current company anymore. Seeing the way things 'work' around there and them STILL not giving me the salary increase they promised before I accepted job well...Let's just say it's not somewhere I see myself retiring from, and as my other questions shown I've been looking elsewhere.
I have feeling they may offer me full-time soon My question is how do I decline offer? I really don't want to jeopardize my part-time position until I find something else? My biggest reason is honestly the salary.
5 AnswersLaw & Legal9 years agoIs my employer entitled to ask me if I have or am looking for another part-time job?
I've been working part-time @my company for almost a year now. As you may have seen from some of my other post it's not working out as I had envisioned (nor they lead me to believe)
That salary increase they promised? Notta
Full-Time? Nope
So now I've been searching for another position. Whether it be (hopefully) a different Full-Time all together or another part-time to supplement my income.
Well lately a few of my co-workers have been questioning "Am I looking for another job" or "did you get another job?" as they've noticed I've been only working my scheduled hours (I use to come in early stay later) and dressing nicer (I occasionally have to go out to the shop/warehouse so didn't usually wear heals or to nice of clothes)
So my question is are they allowed to ask me this? It's not affecting my work, as I work my scheduled hours. (Aside from one day I took off a few weeks back..otherwise STELLAR attendance!)
9 AnswersLaw & Legal9 years agoDo I run risk of disciplinary action if I take off work for an interview for another job?
I wouldn't lie and call in 'sick' parse...I just wouldn't say/be vague. Although to be honest since hire (actually since interview process) I'd been very upfront in stating what my salary requirement were (which they STILL haven't matched) and that my career goal was to go full-time with benefits. They aren't willing to give me either so I have expressed that in that case I would need to explore (at very least) other part-time employment options.
I have an opportunity for a full-time position in a field I have interest in...however the women whom I would interview with has limited availability(and position is also in another city)...For these reasons I'm contemplating calling in to my current position so as I can interview for this other company...
Would this be cause for disciplinary action? I've had an excellent attendance record since my employment started almost a year ago
6 AnswersLaw & Legal9 years agoHow do I go about asking my current supervisor for a letter of reccomendation?
I've been with my company for almost a year now. I've had 3 very good reviews and have taken on SEVERAL other job duties/responsibilities that were not in the original job description. However I have not been compensated (even though I had been told prior to hire that salary increases were based upon performance). Nor are they willing to move my employment status up to full time (or offer me benefits) All supervisors/management/HR and corporate knew/know that was what I had been looking for/my intentions.
I'm just not really sure how to go about asking my current supervisor (whom I seem to have decent working relationship with Upper management/corporate are ones holding the salary increase/benefits strings) for a letter of recommendation without it being SUPER obvious I'm looking for other employment. I mean I'm pretty sure they knew I'd be looking for other part-time jobs to supplement my income but...any help?
Kinda a tough situation.
1 AnswerEtiquette9 years agoWhat is the proper etiquette for people talking (loudly) in fron tof my work station?
I'm an Admin Assistant my desk is in front of Conference Room/Front Door/basically right out in open.
How should I bring up topic or correct people (esp "higher ups") when after meetings in Conference Room they linger outside door and talk loudly...thus essentialy being in my work space. That or @times they don't even close door to Conference Room or walk around (trying to get cell reception) and again LOUDLY talk on their phones. I would NEVER dream of standing in their work space or outside their office and doing that....so how can I make the see (or HEAR) that what they are doing is RUDE! And IMHO not proper office ettiquette...
4 AnswersEtiquette10 years agoHow do I ask for raise? Or more aptly requested salary?
I had taken a part-time job back in April. The salary was a tad lower than what I had requested on my cover letter/application (which actually was even tad lower than I'd like but market bad...had been laid off year...) NEhoo when taking the job I had asked how they go about salary increases and was told it was based upon performance and could pretty much be any time (thought that was a plus as meant wouldn't necasarly have to wait 90days or just given annually)
In the time I've been here I've taken on SEVERAL new responsibilities that were NOT originally part of job description AND agreed to come in half hour early (see previous question of mine)
Thus far no salary increase nor have I personally heard of any...
Today a co-worker came to me stating she was taking some time off so she was going to come and show me how to do one of her duties in her absence...thus meaning I'd be taking on EVEN MORE!!
How do I politely ask when I'm going to see a more MOOLA for my performance which has been exceptional (I've had 2/3 glowing reviews)
Also how do I bring up Fall (again see my previous Q) that yes I AM still interested in more hours...but it would have to be like 10hours week so that it is both financially and productivity wise worthwhile...not just an hour a day =5hours/wk

2 AnswersLaw & Ethics10 years agoso am I stuck with these hours now?
Back in April I took a part-time job with the hopes of it going full-time (or at least more hours) The starting salary was just a bit lower than what I had requested on my cover letter and during interviews and when hired I did inquire as to how & when salary increases were determined. Told that it was based upon performance and that they could happen at one month or 3months and there was really no specific time frame. (meaning that it doesn't have have only be at annual review)
In the 3month that's I've been there I've taken on several new responsibilities that were not in my job description...I've had 2 glowing reviews thus far and in June they asked if I was still interested in more hours (which I am) However the only "additional" hours they want to offer was like a half hour in am & half in afternoon....not really worth it imo productivity wise NOR financial on my end. I told them I could probably do the a.ms as I had been getting to work approx 20-25minutes early anyway. But asked if we could revisit the additional hours (and more of them) after summer as I DID schedule my childs activities around my current schedule (single parent) They stated that would be fine.
My problem now is...even after my reviews (as stated glowing) AND taking on several new responsibilities I have not gotten a salary increase...nor have i heard any talk of one. How do i bring it up? If I'm not getting one (or wont be for awhile) I'd really prefer to go back to my normal start time (half hour later) until after summer where hopefully I can get more than just 2.5 - 5xtra hours a week. I mean really as said that doesn't help out much neither financial (me) or productivity.
Since I agreed (somewhat meekly) to coming in that half hour early am I stuck now? Again as stated AFTER summer I have no problem as long as I get my salary increase (nothing major just what I had requested on cover) AND they give me enough xtra hours to make worth while.
4 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment10 years agoEtiquette for free B-Day dinner offer....?
It was my B-Day and I had received a 'Thanks for your patronage..please come in for a B-Day dinner on us with purchase of equal'
So I ask a "friend" if she'd like to come along. We order..we eat..bill comes...I'm thinking I'll pay for my drink, my salad and then the tip.
BUT she's suggest splitting bill?!?! Wrong of me to be put off? I mean it was MY BDay dinner..and a Thank You (from company) for MY patronage.
I'd like to add this is not a TGIF or anything, but a rather upscale restaurant

5 AnswersUnited States1 decade agoHonest answers/reviews on these tv brands Vizio, Sanyo, Dynex, Insignia?
Looking to purchase a 40-42" LCD HDTV 1080p 60Hz (or maybe 120Hz) I've read some really good reviews on both Vizio & Sanyo...but BestBuy doesn't carry them. So for same specs & price BestBuy has Dynex & Insignia..which honestly I've never heard of before.
Any tips? Experiences? Recommendations?
As of right now I have Time Warner Digital Cable with DVR, DVD & Wii. Will I need to upgrade to the HD package to get decent picture?
