3 AnswersElections1 decade agohelp dealing with receiving judgment?
here's how it happens:
1. my mother dishes out a judgement
2. i stand up for myself without blaming her or dishing it back and positivly validate myself and who i am
3. she repond by suggesting i am too sensitive in order to invalidate my response.
4. i disagree and say that of course all humans will respond in some way to receiving judgement and wouldn't she do the same?
5. she denies she ever made a judgment.
6. i feel defeated, angry, and hurt and distance myself from her
7. i'm planning to go to a family gathering in a month and i don't want to be around her, but i want to see other members who are there. not sure what to do.
this is a recurring problem that happens with both my parents and i'm looking for more ways i can deflect the trauma and protect myself when i have to interact with them.
any suggestions?
please don't suggest ignoring it. this doesn't work for me.
thanks.

2 AnswersFish1 decade agois it still accurate to say "turn of the century" (see details)?
i keep wanting to say "turn of the century" when referring to the time period around 1900, but now that we have turned another century, it seems kind of funny.

9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agodeciphering christians: follow-up on judgment question?
i asked a question about judgment the other day, and thanks to all who took the time to answer. i just want to be sure before i get on the phone with my christian friend to attempt to salvage our friendship....
is it agreed that amongst most christians that a person should be judged by their actions and their "fruits" and not their personal beliefs no matter how different those beliefs may be?
my beliefs are very different from hers and she thinks that what i believe is wrong even though they are my own personal sacred beliefs that harm no one.
5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agostill not getting it, christians please answer...?
i just don't know how christians interpret "judge not lest ye be judged". if judgment can be defined as determining what is good, bad, beautiful, or ugly in another person's life, then how do christians that judge others justify doing precisely that?
32 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agois it possible to be real friends with a born again christian if you aren't one (please read details)?
i just lost a friend who is born again christian and she won't tell me why she ended the relationship. i told her that i don't like it when people tell me what to believe or think and that i need to be respected for my individuality (but also expressed my love for her too). we have known each other for over 20 years and she is like family. i thought we could talk openly with each other and i don't understand this reaction.
is there some born again christian code that you can't be friends with non-christians unless they convert?
just trying to figure it out.
10 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agowhy do people think that if homosexuality were to be the "norm" humans would cease to exist?
our culture has never been just homosexual or heterosexual. don't forget there are bisexual people too. god didn't just make white people. he made variety. why do you think that if homosexuality were allowed that people would stop reproducing? we have successfully over-populated ourselves in the existence of homosexual people. do you think that god could have created homosexual people for another purpose other that procreating? eunuchs seemed to be pretty popular in the bible and they didn't reproduce.
15 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoif homosexuality isn't natural, how is it that it is known within nature?
National geographic states that in fact, homosexuality and bisexuality is known throughout the animal kingdom such as in birds, beetles, sheep, fruit bats, dolphins, orangutans, and macaques to name a few. One in particular, the bonobo, an African ape closely related to humans, and highly sexually active, is a significant example. Studies suggest 75 percent of bonobo sex is non-reproductive and that nearly all bonobos are bisexual.
20 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agohas anyone in the LGBT community ever been successful with...?
reasoning with a conservative christian(s) in their lives on homosexuality issues?
it continues to look bleak for me, though i keep trying to get them to understand that it just isn't loving what they are doing and promoting. if you have been successful, how did you do it?
14 AnswersLesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender1 decade agois there anywhere in the bible that says "woman shall not lie with another woman"?
seems like all the perceived "homosexuality as sin" is directed only towards men.
the word homosexuality wasn't even used in the bible until the 20th century so i don't consider that sufficient back-up in an answer.
(just to ward off any confusion: i personally don't think homosexuality is wrong or sinful)
19 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agois there a yahoo group or similiar that is for christians and non-christians trying to understand each other?
i've found a group that is for christians and pagans but you have to be a practicing pagan to join which i'm not. i have my own spiritual path, but i'm not part of any group.
