Hi, i need some advice about holiday rules/law in the UK. We have been given 2012 holiday memo, we work full time (38.5 hours) over 5 days a week. We have been told on the memo that due to a recent European directive that no holidays are allowed to be carried forward into the following year. I have searched google and cannot find information about this directive, what i have found however on my research is that you are allowed 28 holidays and you are allowed by law to carry a max of 8 holidays into the following year. Can someone please confirm what is true about this, thank you, Best answer will be awarded, can you also state your position, IE: Solicitor, etc, so i can get a grasp who are talking sense and who are not. Thank You.

1 AnswerPhysics10 years agoReynolds number equations?
I have a definition of Reynolds number as being Re = pLovo/n (p=density, Lo=radius?, vo=speed, n=viscosity).
I also have the equation f(Re) = Fd/pLo^2 vo^2. I understand that this is another dimensionless number to do with scaling. If so, how?
I'm not sure what the term Fd is when doing this scaling & also how, when a sphere is going through a liquid this term is found to be f(Re) = 6(Pi)/ Re, or is this last one just an example to answered in a separate question?
1 AnswerPhysics10 years agoThermodynamics help required?
Air at 60 degrees C is initially contained in an insulated piston-cylinder container with a volume of 0.4m^3 at 4 bar pressure. It proceeds to undergo a sequential series of thermodynamic changes.
Process 1: constant pressure heating until the temperature reaches 150 degree's C
Process 2: Constant volume cooling until the pressure reduces to 3 bar, and
Process 3: Polytropic compression, where PV^1.5 = constant, until the volume becomes 0.1m^3
Assuming that the characteristic gas constant of air is R = 290 j/kgK
determine the temperature of air after process 2.

1 AnswerPhysics10 years agoThermodynamics physics help?
Oxygen trapped inside an insulated smooth piston-cylinder apparatus has a volume of 0.3m^3, pressure of 2.5bar and tempreture of 20 degree C. It is then subjected to the following thermodynamic processes sequentially:
Process 1: heating under constan tvolume condition until its temperature increases to 120 degree C
Process 2: Undergo polytropic expansion where PV^1.4 = constant, until its volume increases to 0.5m^3
Process 3: Cooling under constant pressure condition until its volume decreases to 0.4m^3
Assuming:
Universal gas constant = 8.314kJ/kmol.K, and
Molar mass of oxygen molecule = 32kg/kmol
Determine:
The pressure of oxygen after process 2.
a) 1.64 bar
b) 1.22 bar
c) none of above
Can you please show your work.

3 AnswersPhysics10 years agodisplacement & time maths problem?
The displacement, s (m), of an object from a fixed point O can be described as a function of time, t (s), as
s=6t^4 - 2t^3 + 3t +2
Determine the displacement, velocity and acceleration of the object at t=5s. Calculate the times when the acceleration, a (m/s^2), is zero.
Answers below:
@t=5s
displacement= 3517m
Velocity= 2853 m/s
Acceleration = 1740 m/s^2
Then it says..
Acceleration = 0 m/s^2
@t=0s or t=0.17s
can anyone help explain and show the work?

The bars are in equilibrium, each 2 m long,
and each weighing 73 N. The string pulling
down on the two bars is attached 0.4 m from
the fulcrum on the leftmost bar and 0.3 m
from the left end of the rightmost bar. The
spring (of constant 29 N/cm) is attached at
an angle 39 degrees at the left end of the upper bar.
If the suspended mass is 5 kg, by how much
will the spring stretch? The acceleration of
gravity is 9.8 m/s2 .

I have a 136bhp 2001 E46 320d and I can’t get rid of a power dip around 2100rpm!
I have replaced the MAF (ECU updated by BMW), manifold pressure sensor, turbo pressure converter (and vacuum tubes). and I am still getting a lump of power around 2000rpm and then it dips and then slowly regains up to full.
Could it be a dirty EGR valve or dirty inlet manifold or worse a failing turbo?

The figure shows the meter used to study the motion yB = bsinωt.
The motion of the mass relative to the frame is recorded on the drum.
If l1= 360 mm, l2= 480 mm, l3= 600 mm, m = 0.9 kg, c = 1.4 Ns/m and
ω = 10 rad/s, Determine the range of the spring constant k over which the magnitude of the recorded relative displacement is less than 1.5b. It is assumed that the ratio ω/ωn must remain greater than unity
1 AnswerPhysics1 decade agoBizarre water compression in glass.?
If you half fill a straight glass, then put a beer mat or coaster on the top of the glass then turn it upside down, holding the mat/coaster on, the water compresses by approx 25%, if you don't believe me then try it.
My question is:
Why and how does this happen? i was always led to believe water can only compress by a very small fraction. It really is bizarre!!

I want to buy a T sport 1800 cc corolla, i have heard that some of the corolla's have had bore lining issues that burn approx 1 litre of oil over 600 - 1000 miles. Does this affect all the models or just a certain year of build? Does any body have any information on this and give me some details? the year i'm looking to purchase is 03 - 05 plate.
