odds of 6 from 10 numbers?
I suppose this counts as "ambling" as it's about odds.
I have a key safe with buttons 0-9. The combination is 6 numbers - each can only be used once, in any order.
What are the odds on someone getting the right combination by random pressing?
2 AnswersMathematics4 years agoGmail writng email "error message?
I have a Gmail account, but two days ago started getting "error message" when I tried to write or answer an email. The "error message" appreas only in the box where one types one's messages, and reads:
The webpage cannot be found
HTTP 404
[can't put all of message in, run out of space here]
How can the page "not be found"? I can get into my inbox, I can read my emails, but when I want to answer an email or create one, suddenly "page not found"??
It might be my PC that's at fault, but in such a narrowly specific way??
Google is nbg for help at all, so if anyone can advise, I'd be grateful - otherwise got to transfer all Gmail data to Yahoo, which I'd been trying to get away from
1 AnswerGoogle7 years agoEpson printer won't print black and white cos a colour cartridge is empty?
I have an Epson Stylus all-in-ibe printer. 99.99999999% of my printing is plain text black and white. But the damn thing won't let me print because the cyan toner is empty.
I've tried the "help" and it said to set the properties for Greyscale. I've doen that and it still won't have it. I'm fed up of having to replace colour toners that i hrdly ever use to get the sod to print in black on white, which is all I need it to do.
How can I get the ratbag machine to do what I want, which is to print black on white and forget about the damn colours?
3 AnswersPrinters8 years agoMouse pointers for visually impaired?
I'm severely visually impaired: I used to have a set of large cursors in the Cursor folder, they might have been a default package, but had to get XP reinstalled and they ain't there now.
I'm having to stand up and lean close to the screen, nose almost on it, to enlarge a box, for eg, because I can't see the cursor any other way - and I'm using a 42" TV as a monitor.
Can anyone point me to anywhere where I might be able to find a set of cursors? just like Windows standard, but a whole lot bigger! They don't have to be animated: as far as I'm concerned, the simpler the better. I prefer white cursors because I have to have to use Word with the optional dark blue bagkground.
If anyone can help to point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful
Thanks
ps I'm using XP, if I didn't make it clear before
1 AnswerOther - Computers8 years agotoner in Epson SX218?
I bought some replacement black toner for this machine, non-Epson, it worked fine, so I got some more. First one came up "Toner not recognised"; managed to get that sorted - but now it won't print black.
If I try the print head goes back and forth, but only blank page comes out. If I set the font colour to dark blue or dark green it prints, so it must be accessing the black toner - it just won't print black.
I could leave my default onscreen colour as dark blue or dark green, but - I'm visually impaired and the standard colours do my eyes in: i have to have the alternate colours of white print on dark blue background - which means that my typing would be invisible.
And I'm so used to typing and printing that I keep forgetting that I have to select all to change the print colour to something the stupid machine will bother to do.
I might have a duff cartridge, but I canNOT line the sodding toner unit up to try a new black toner. I know there's a button on the console that will do this, I've used it before, but I can't get it to work now. I'm not sure which button it is: it was trial and error last time.
Epson online help is rubbish: it just says "refer to manual" which I don't have and couldn't read if i did, as I'm visually impaired.
Can someone at least help me get the right damn button? Please????
1 AnswerPrinters8 years agowhat's wrong with windows movie maker?
I'm trying to save a film, split into five sections in WMM, into uploadable movies. They're saved as Movie Maker Projects, but I cannot get the so-and-so's turned into anything useful.
I have 11 GB spare space on my C drive.
I have 2 external drives, which have 60+ and 70+ GB free space.
The segments I'm trying to convert are about 300 mb each.
But it "can't convert because there's not enough room".
I don't know what the flipping problem is, excapt that WMM is useless. Can anyone offer any clues, or suggest an easy-to-use alternative to WMM??
3 AnswersSoftware9 years agoexternal power not solar or mains?
I want to create a very small water feature for my tiny garden, but: solar power is no good because I only get about an hour a day, if I'm lucky, and the ground is paved so I can't get mains power outside.
I've been trying to find some kind of battery pack that I can charge indoors on the mains and plug in to the feature to run it, either I can't find the right keywords or no one does anything like that.
Can anyone suggest something? I live in rented accommodation so I don't think the landlords would be very happy with any substantial landscaping changes - besides, I'm disabled and more no-tech than low-tech.
(I could get a power cable to run around the wall to the place where I want to feature, but I'm a tad paranoid about electricity and water getting together - unless you're very lucky you don't get a chance to make a second mistake!)
4 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs9 years agoplaster of paris bandage for crafts?
I've seen plaster-soaked bandages for crafting; you dip them in water to activate the plaster and then use them on your porject.
Was wondering: would other material do as well? I've got a load of plaster; if I got some old bandages, or even cut up old sheets into strips, would they do the job just as well? Project I have in mind is rather big, so if there's a cheaper option, I'm all for it!
2 AnswersSculpture9 years agomusic keyboard advice, please?
I'm looking for a midi keyboard - I simply don't have room for a full size one - and I could do with some advice. I don't want one with bells and whistles - if it sounds like a piano that's really all I want. But neigher Argos nor eBay can apparently tell the difference between "midi" and "mini" so they're no help.
Also, I keep finding keyboards labelled "midi controllers" and I have no idea what that means - I want a simple standalone one that don't need to be plugged into a pc for me to plink on.
Any advice or explantions would be most welcome.
ps: why does YA think this should go under "R&B and Soul"??
2 AnswersOther - Music9 years agoIs there a way to set up an A5 book in A4?
I’ve been wanting to self-publish a book of poetry for about twenty years, but there’s a problem: I’m visually impaired and simply don’t see well enough to set up a book in the size in which it will be printed.
Is there any way that I can set up the book in large font in A4 so that when it’s reduced in size, it’ll still have the same layout in A5?
I was thinking, font 24 in A4 - halve the font size, halve the page size, so that, when it’s reduced it’ll keep the same layout. I presume that the margins etc would also have to be twice the size in A4 so that they also reduce down to A5.
The printers I contacted said they’d be able to help, but it’ll probably cost ££££ on top of the printing costs – and, more importantly, I won’t be able to see their layout to check that it matches what I want.
I have Word 2003 and Publisher 2003, if either of those would be any use.
Any [helpful!] advice would be very gratefully received.
good old YA - it suggests that the best category for this question is "Cars & Transportation > Car Makes > Audi "
1 AnswerOther - Arts & Humanities10 years agois smallpox vaccination still carried out?
I've read that smallpox was almost complteely eradicated globally, but some samples were kept in laboratories. I presume this means that, as smallpox no longer exists "in the wild", people are no longer routinely vaccinated against it.
But supppose an accident occurred and a sample escaped? no one in the world would have immunity to the vector and so probably everyone in the world would need vaccinating - how long would that take and are there sufficient supplies to prevent a pandemic?
5 AnswersMedicine10 years agobreadmaker for kneading only?
I like making bread by hand, but I have a problem with kneading properly - I have a back injury and not much shoulder/arm strength so it's a literal pain.
I've looked at bread machines, but some of the reviews of some models said that the kneading paddle gets stuck in the baked loaf and has to be dug out after cooking, leaving a pit in the bottom of the loaf, which does'nt sound much fun.
All I need is a machine to do the kneading for me. I only have a hand mixer, so even if it had dough hooks (it doesn't) holding it for five or ten minutes would'nt do my shoulder much good even if I kept swapping hands.
.
Is there a machine that I can use just for kneading the dough? thanks very much!
ps good old YA - it suggested that the best section for this question was "Business & Finance > Other - Business & Finance " - other offers were: " Arts & Humanities > Visual Arts > Sculpture" and "Consumer Electronics > Home Theatre "!
7 AnswersCooking & Recipes10 years agoShould pagan celebrations begin the day before?
The Celts, from whom a lot of pagan ritual and form is derived, started their day at sunset. As their Wheel of the Year is so common in modern paganism, when does the day of a ceremony actually begin?
Beltane is listed as starting on May 1st.. Should we start celebrating at sunset on April 30th or at sunset on May 1st, continuing until sunset on the 2nd?
4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality10 years agowhy was the question deleted?
someone posted a question in here that started: "Why do you believe (or alternately disbelieve) in the Theory of Evolution? Merely a question, and nothing else. I am interested to see what you may think of this particular matter, as it seems this is the second most controversial topic in this section (after the existence, or lack thereof, of God)."
I answered it but when I pressed "Submit" i was told htat the question had been deleted because it contravened community guidelines. it had been up no more than one minute.
What's so objectionable about it that it had been reported more than once and then been deleted?
this question will probably go the same way! but I'm willing to spend points posting it anyway
12 AnswersReligion & Spirituality10 years agoKeyboard shortcuts in Word 2007?
I'm using Word 2007 with XP. I use a lot of keyboard shortcuts, and am having to reset them all forllowing a reinstall of both XP and Office. So far, so good.
But - I used to have a shortcut to Hyphenation, and I can't find the command anywhere in Customize that I can tie the keystrokes to again. I can't find Hypehate or Hypehation anywhere. but it must be there somewhere, cos i did it before.
My vision's not too good, so I might be missing it - but I found it before! could anyone advise on what that command might be and where I mgiht find it? I've tried "all commands" to make sure that, if it were there, it'd show, but, sigh ...
Thanks
1 AnswerOther - Computers10 years agodisappearing top bar in DAZ?
Very simple and very silly problem: I'm trying to learn how to use DAZ 3d art, but I keep doing something that makes the red top of the screen disappear - the bit that has the program name at the left and the minimise, restore and close buttons on the right side. - as you get with Yahoo Answers or most other programs.
I don't know what I'm doing to make it go, or what I did to make it come back, but it's gona again and I can't get the so-and-so back - apart from not being able to size the window, the whole thing moves up and leaves a gap at the bottom. As I don't see too well, this is very annoying.
Anyone got any ideas what I'm doing wrong, and how I can put it right? pI also had this prob in Paintshop Pro, but worked out how to get that back]
I'm obviously hitting the wrong key or not aiming the mouse properly - both very easy to do with visual impairment - so can someone take pity on a newbie and help out?
Thanks!

1 AnswerOther - Television1 decade agowhy can't we live and let live?
This section could be so interesting and informative, with people honestly curious about other ways of being and asking honest questins and getting helpful answers.
Instead it mostly seems a battlefield where the two opposing sides are dug in and constantly fire at each other, which results in the other side digging themselves in still deeper and firint even bigger shells back, which leads to ... and so on.
Atheists and Christians, you're never going to convert the other side to your way of thinking. No one's going to suddenly slap their forehead and say, "Doh, how stupid I've been! I see it all bow and I shall convert instantly!"
Each side knows what it believes, and is comfortable with that belief. so why can't it be left at that?
Interested questions, yes: snide attacks and bad-mouthing, no.
btw, I'm a pagan and would like to explore both beleif and unbelief, but i'm fed up with having to wade through active minefields to find useful questions and answers! I know wht I beleive, I'm not out to convert or be converted, but it's possible to take an intellectual interest in other ways of thought without wanting to join them - or attack them.
ps - I'll probably get shot down by both sides for this question!
24 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoexcel - individual headers/footers for each page?
I'm trying to create a perpetual calendar via Excel: I've got it set over 12 pages as one continuous table, so that I can remove cells in "column B" to change the day of January 1st, and that change will flow down the rest of the year.
So far, so good. But I can't add in month names without breaking the flow, meaning that I'd have to adjust each month's starting day in turn.
So what I'd like to do is to create footers for each page, to show each month.
I can create A footer, but only one - so every month would be labelled "January".
Is there any way to give each page its own footer, so that each month will be printed with its own name but still allow the table to flow when the day January 1st falls on changes over the years?
Of course I could print them blank and write the months in - provided I don't get the pages out of sequence!
thanks
PS I'm a techno-dodo, so simple soltuons would be best
