  • Is a glass half empty or half full?

You see, there are a few questions like this and now I try to mathematically solve the riddle...but do you agree with my resulting conclusion?

Empty means there is nothing there...we all know that half of nothing is nothing. A full glass is one glass full...half of one full glass is half So, surely half empty is incorrect (as half of nothing is nothing) and the glass is truly half full (half of a full (one) glass or half of a full...or half full).

  • If sea levels rise due to global warming then does this mean...?

Does this mean that we will have a new measurement for 'sea level'[ and as a consequence Everest will effectively be 'shorter' than it is now...in fact all measurements that are quoted as a height above sea level.

This possibly means that some munro's in Scotland will fall below 3,000 feet above sea level and will no longer be classified as Munro's...or does it!

  • Has anybody had their life changed by Y!A?

Either by relationship, family, medical, life saving etc.

What was you question you asked and what was the answer given that you listened too and how did it change your life or perhaps even save your life?

Maybe it wasn't even your question but somebody elses that you could relate to.

  • If anyone here suffers from Spontaneous pneumothorax either now or in the past?

do you find that stress and anxiety increase recurrence? Two years ago I had a spont. pnumothorax in my left side. Needle aspiration didn't work and a chest drain was put in place to keep my lung up while I waited surgery for a pluraectomy. Now my left side is fine but I suffer spont. pnumothorax in my right side regularly. I know this sounds nuts to any medical dudes out there but bear with me. I have defects over my lungs called bulla's or blebs. Small blister like weak spots on my lungs. It is these that 'burst open' and allow the air to seep through. The air can get in on one breath, and return the next or sometimes the air gets in, stays for a few hours, then dissappears as if by magic again. I am convinced that for some strange reason the regularity of these small spont. pnumo. happens when I am stressed or anxious. Anyone else find this. I gotta be lucky here as spont' pnumo is a very rare occurance but I am just curious and hopeful someone else out there knows. ^^

  • Should we conserve energy by turning off our street lamps between the hours of say 1am and 5am?

Think of the energy that would be saved.

Advantages include a financial saving (although this probably will not show in our council tax bills!)

    Astronomers will have dark skies.

    Environmental advantages by saving energy.

Perhaps a disadvantage would be personal safety to anyone walking about in the early morning hours?

  • Is there a vacuum between molecules?

Is there a vacuum between one molecule of gas in the air and the next be it N2, H2, O2 or whatever else?

Is there a vacuum between molecules of a liquid?

Is there a vacuum between molecules of a solid?

Consider that a liquid is less dense than a solid, and gas is less dense than liquid (like for like).

  • What type of map do I need to see detail of a river/sea bed?

Nautical maps are not detailed enough.

What I am looking for is features in the sea/river estuaries that would be godd prospective fishing spots.

I know it sounds extreme, but I just want to try. ^_^

  • Life on Earth....an unrepeatable accident?

I have often thought that Earth is so unique, it harbours the only life in the universe! Everything had to be JUST right for life to first take a hold.

A denser atmosphere --> No life (Venus)

Too hot --> no life (Mercury)

Too little atmosphere --> No life (mars)

to name only three amazing co-incidences that have to be met.

So, do you believe Earth is the only life harbouring place in the universe? Is the odds of this accident happening again less than the number of stars with planets?

So far, we have not even found solid evidence of even a single celled form of life in the few places we have managed to explore and received no convincing signals from space (except the 'wow' signal SETI found but that could be natural).

  • OK, having seen some questions on religion, here is another.?

I wish to ask for everyones opinion on the following:

If you are Muslim, I ask for your view on Christianity

If you are Christian, I ask for your view on Islam

If you are none of these, then comment on both.

Please try and have some respect but still put your view forward.

(I think I am right in saying that muslims religion is Islam? Sorry if I am wrong, please correct me).

  • "Each action has an equal and opposite reaction".......?

This is the third law of Sir Issac Newtons laws of physics. If it is true, then what is the reaction of a black holes action of pulling everything in due to its massive gravity?

  • Are we at the dawn of our civilisation or at the end?

Is this just the begining of the human race's civilisation or are we near the end?

In 1 thousand years time will we be spread throughout the galaxy, perhaps universe and look backk on todays times as we look now upon Romans, Normans etc. Or, are we killing ourselves faster than we can come up with solutions, will time run out for us, will we destroy the planet, our life support system? Are the stars really our future or is it imprisonment on a ruined, overheated and resourcefully drained planet, Earth?
