  • can you be fired for absence at work?

I came back from Holiday to find a letter from my employers inviting me to a disaplinary meeting for Absence and timekeeping???

Ive never been late but have been off for the odd day not mounting to more than 5 in the last year, I have never had a warning about it or told my absence was unacceptable until now? The times i was off was down to medication change for depression and my employers new that, All i had was an informal chat about the absences and that was it.

My record is clean, no warnings, no verbals so why take it straight to a disciplinary meeting.

Anyone know any good employment law sites regarding procedures in the workplace concerning disaplinarys and absence??? So i have things ready for my meeting on monday. Im not part of a union either so cant take a union rep in with me.

    Thanks

I know this sounds silly but i fell on my wrist walking/running up the stairs last week i was drunk ha so pain didn't kick in till the next day but 1 week later its still very sore, i can move my hand but when i twist it or turn it thats when i get the pain, its tolerable but worrying and sometimes it feels a bit numb, and sore to grip things... im a total hospital phobic and dont fancy a trip so i keep puting it off saying it might feel better tomorrow but it never does. So is it a sprain a fracture and do you think i need a trip to the hospital to get it checked out, i feel silly incase its just sprained and dont want to waste the hospitals time as there busy enough....ive got a support bandage on for the time being. I really need to get over this hospital phobia too i think, just thought i'd ask so pls no silly answers.

  • pomeranian dog question.?

My partner is at me to home a Pomeranian dog that's 2years old and is about to be sent off to the dog home as its owners kids are allergic to the dog, My question is are they a breed that will get on with my 2 cats (they will put up with anyone or animal), are they as yappy and loud as ive read online, and basically should i upset the home environment of my cats to please the other half who desperately wants the dog but im in two minds? I dont know what to do, i want to say yes for a easy life but not sure if this kind of dog will get on with my cats. I dont know what to say, ive already said NO but the nagging is relentless., I would love a wee dog to take on walks but my cats come first! Any advice much appreciated, so far im thinking a big NO NO.Help.

  • neighbour cuts my hedge.need advice.?

Basically its a hedge that divides our front garden and the hedge is on my property as you can clearly see it grows from my side. But he keeps cutting the height right down when im trying to grow it an extra foot for privacy as when he stands in his front garden and he looks straight into my living room window.no privacy at all and he's always in his garden.

Whats the best way to approach him about this matter as he is a bit of an unapproachable person who would probably shout and curse if i did approach. and any other advice re guarding this matter i would be grateful. (i really need to find my title deeds for the house to see if that says anything but as usual things disappear when you need them?)

I know its a trivial matter but its starting to get annoying when i come back from work to find it trimmed right down.

    thanks

  • can an employer terminate employment if signed of sick by a doctor.?

I am asking this on behalf of my mother who has been signed of sick by her doctor for 6 months now on full pay. She will soon be going on to half pay as over the 6months mark and has a meeting with her employer to discuss the matter. The ill health has been caused by the job and proven by the doctor that basicaly she is allergic to the chemicals and environment at work causing skin problems making it impossible to go back to work or the problems will arise again(she has been fine away from work)

She has been with the company for over 25 years now and is worried they will just terminate her contract with no pay or another position offered.

What is her rights? can they just terminate employment on ill health when she has been signed off? Can they offer her a redundency package. She is very worried and does want to go back but the doctor has advised her she is best not too. But that wont pay the bills.

Any employment advice is much appreciated or direct me to a site that has info or help. Im in the uk.

    Thanks in advance.
