  • Uni help??? Thanks?

I've been accepted to Birmingham, which is where I REALLY want to go...THIS YEAR. I don't want to have a gap year, but I also want to change courses to do English. Should I wait and re-apply next year? Or is there anything I could do?

  • Do goths have a special walk?

Whenever I see goths in my hometown, they have a really exaggerated walk, with a huge gait. Not that I'm mocking it or anything, I just wonder what it's about.

  • How can I apply for a Saturday job?

Ok I know this sounds like a dumb question but I really don't know. I'm currently studying full-time in the east of England and I just want to earn a bit of money so my mum doesn't have to pay for everything. I've tried looking online but there are literally NO Saturday jobs at all. I don't think it's normal to just walk in and ask for a job so how do I find one? Thanks in advance. :)

  • How to feel passionate about things?

I used to love drawing and learning the guitar. Now I'm at college and I feel pretty depressed most weekends because I'm alone most of the time. I have quite a lot of school work to do so when I DO have free time I feel really unmotivated and sad. Any advice?

  • Are ionic brushes dangerous?

Recently I bought a John Frieda ionic hot air brush and I LOVE it so much. It is like going to the salon every time I use it. It is hands down the best product I ve ever bought for my hair. However, I am slightly concerned that at any moment I could get an electric shock! You can visibly see the sparks and sometimes it makes a weird crackling noise. Is it dangerous?

  • Do 80s High School movies (like The Breakfast Club) make you feel sad?

I always feel like I missed out on the epic high school experience. High school just wasn't like that and I never felt that amazing about my life. How does this genre make you feel?

  • How to shade a portrait properly?

Hi. :) I was just wondering what the best technique is to shade inn a face. I'm fairly new at drawing to be honest but I really love doing it and I'd like to draw realistic portraits. Is it possible just to use an HB, 2B and maybe 6B because that's all I ever know how to use really. Or is it essential to use a whole range? Thanks.

  • What is asexuality?

Ok so I think I get the general premise: not having sexual attraction towards other people. However, in the documentary "(A)sexual", the main guy clearly says that he wants to have sex and also that it is the same "physiologically" for him as for sexuals...I'm not against asexuality at all , I just don't get it. Isn't it a bit like saying you don't feel hunger or thirst? It's a fundamental thing isn't it?

  • How do I accept my Mum's new partner?

Right. My Mum recently met this woman online and they are in a pretty serious relationship. The woman (let's call her Anna) now visits our home regularly and has to fly over all of the time (she lives abroad). The other night my mum was even talking about marrying Anna in the future. I'm 16 and my mum has never had a same sex relationship before. I am definitely not homophobic just to get that straight (haha i made a pun). I'm basically just finding it hard to picture this new life. So, any advice on how to deal with it all?

  • Is it bad that I finished an exam early?

I'm currently taking my AS levels and I know its stupid and silly but I'm seriously freaking out. I did my biology unit two exam and finished with half an hour to spare.

I answered all of the questions and felt that I had done pretty much as well as I could. However, there is this niggling thought in my mind that perhaps I didn't spend long enough thinking about 1 or 2 mark questions etc.

I guess I am looking for reassurance if I'm honest...or for similar experiences with A levels. I get "post-exam stress" I think. Well that's what its been labelled as on the internet.

  • Why does it pay to ruin the planet?

Ok, so Im watching TV and an ad comes up for multicar insurance...it says that if you have two cars at the same address then you can get a 10% discount on the first and a 20% discount on the second. How can this be legal?! I am confounded and therefore very annoyed..

  • What does old world and new world actually mean?

I've always been interested in wildlife and natural history but I've never understood this. Why are some groups of organisms classified as "new world" and some as "old world". Could somebody please explain what the difference is? Thank-you in advance to anybody that answers. :)

  • What do you think of this poem?

I like reading poetry a lot. I'm in my last year of high school and I wrote this poem when I was a bit younger. It is in free verse and I was just wondering what other people really thought of it. If you like it, what title would you suggest for it?

I want to take the long way around

To join the smiling piggy in the sky

    I don't know why. Perhaps I'll die

I want to take the long way around

To let birdsong into my dreams

And recline in my feathers while the whole world charges into life

A thousand times faster. A thousand times slower

I want to take the long way around

    To call the rooster's song

Only to wallow in what the world knows is wrong

It's too early! Why get up for the thing that stings the eyes?

I want to take the long way around

But you all miss the majesty of the bowing crown

    I can't see! I can't drive! I'll have to slow down

    I'm already slow

A thousand times slower. A thousand times faster

    I want to be slow

So I can hear the trumpets of spring that call out

And peek out from the snow

  • What is your interpretation of this poem?

Recently I've been reading quite a bit of poetry and I came across a poem called "Silence" by D.H. Lawrence. I think it is really rather wonderful and I was wondering what anybody else made of it. To me, the poem is about the insignificance of the world around you after having parted from a loved one. About how nothing seems to make sense to him anymore after that point..Any interpretations welcome!

    Since I lost you I am silence-haunted,

    Sounds wave their little wings

A moment, then in weariness settle

On the flood that soundless swings.

Whether the people in the street

    Like pattering ripples go by,

Or whether the theatre sighs and sighs

    With a loud, hoarse sigh:

Or the wind shakes a ravel of light

    Over the dead-black river,

    Or night’s last echoing

    Makes the daybreak shiver:

    I feel the silence waiting

To take them all up again

    In its vast completeness, enfolding

    The sound of men.

  • Can you explain what nuclear fission is to me clearly?

If anyone out there could please share with me their knowledge of nuclear fission that would be great! I know some things about it, but not all, and i need to know because i am currently in the top set for science (i have no idea why) and i need to really grasp this as soon as possible. All i know is that a U-235 nucleus is separated into two smaller nuclei, which in turn causes protons (could be neutrons) to escape from those atoms to go on and split up more nuclei and so on and so forth, and this is a chain reaction. Could someone please explain this to me clearly in steps or something? =(
