  • I was bitten by a bat?

Yesterday morning a bat was flying around in a large building and I was holding my hands up to steer it towards the door when it swooped down to go under a lower ceiling I instinctively caught it. Since I was near the door I just continued on with it to release it. It "attempted" to bite my thumb but the skin is very tough and I could only feel its little teeth kind of raspy on the surface. I don't think it punctured the skin, but it may have. A nurse looked at it and said she did not see any visible puncture marks. She said she thought I would be safe. I washed thoroughly with soapy water. The bat appeared very strong and healthy, and I encounter a lot of bats so I am almost certain he was not rabid. However, I am not 100% certain, I know the window where the disease can be spread but not yet observed in the animal is small. And, there are no bite marks. I feel like the chances of me being killed going in to the hospital are probably greater than contracting rabies. But again, there is some doubt. This happened about 24 hours ago, so I know I still have time to begin the shots. Now they give one shot of immunglobin or whatever, at the site of the bite followed by 4 lesser shots. It is not unlike a tetanus shot except it cost in the thousands. Of course, if you need it you need it. But in my case, where there are no marks, I washed, and the bat appeared healthy what are the odds I could get it. Should I be concerned?

  • Why would you pay $9.99 for Time Warner's Wi-Fi network?

I am considering switching from my DSL line to broadband and looking at Time Warner as an option. At their website it offers an option to purchase Wi-Fi network for 9.99 a month, in addition to the internet connection charge. I am curious why anyone would pay 9.99 a month for wi-fi?? I mean can't I just hook my Linksys router up and connect my families laptops like that?

I guess there's something to their wi-fi i'm not understanding.

Again, I'm new to TW and don't know how their internet broadband connection will enter my house. I thought it would hook right up to my router, or from their box to my router, and then my router would wirelessly connect my laptops in our network. Don't understand the need to pay 9.99 for TW Wi-fi . Please explain

  • How difficult would it be to send a check from US to Australia?

Could the recipient simply cash it? Is it the same as say, sending a check to Canada? Also, how much postage would it take to send a check to Melbourne?

  • In Texas, your employer makes a contribution to your insurance plan?

This is a large employer. Couple of questions- How much is the employer obligated to contribute per month? And, if you decline to participate in the coverage plan, why are you not entitled to still receive the monthly contribution as part of your paycheck?

  • In the 1958 movie "The Big Country" a confederate flag appears in the majors home?

It appears to be a Georgia or Mississippi flag. My question is where (which state) is this movie supposed to be set in. I know it was filmed in California. And, why is the flag there if they are no longer in that state.

I guess the flag is just there because Bickford was a confederate major from the south, but was wondering if the book (or maybe i missed it in the movie) is clear on the majors past and what state the movie takes place in

  • Can an 8 hp vertical shaft Tecumseh motor on riding mower be replaced with a 13.5 or other motor with no mods?

The little 8hp motor threw a rod after 14 years, I was going to put in a new one, but don't have a lot of time to fool with it and it was underpowered so I was wondering if a bigger motor would be a bolt on replacement for the 8. I was looking at the 13.5hp. The shaft is 1"x3 5/32", the same. Will it will be a straight change out?

  • I am buying a new car and I want to finance using Chrysler/gmac, however the dealer has other ideas.?

They will not discuss the possibility of my using Chrysler/gmac with their current incentive rates, but keep telling me they can get me a better deal.

I have no quibbles about the price on the vehicle- I agree with that aspect. But, I want to finance with Chrysler/gmac , not through whoever the dealer decides. The dealer will not actually come out and say that their price quote is dependent on my financing through them, but they won't seem to let me. WHY? I know they somehow will be making money through selling the loan to a creditor, but why would they be so reluctant to let a buyer use their own companies advertised incentives? Shouldn't Chrysler be encouraging them to push the incentives Chrysler offers? What gives? I guess no dealer discount if you finance through Chrysler..

  • Is Toyota being framed by Obama's media pals?

Undeniably there are problems at Toyota, but perhaps no more so than other carmakers have had in the past that faced much less scrutiny and criticism. Is it merely a coincidence that Obama buys GM and the next thing we know Toyota, the largest seller and a brand known widely for quality, would suddenly become a media goat? Another example of freindly media trying to help Obama?

  • This may be a dumb question, but would people of Jewish faith ever name a child "Christian"?

I am researching a family to 1500's and think that if a child was named Christian the family was not Jewish at least not at that time. Also, does anyone know about Jewish conversian to Christanity in Russia/Prussia/Germany c. 1500? Would it have been possible (or perhaps common) that a Jewish family would name their son "Christian" after converting?

  • Is Obama like Hitler?

Haha I wouldn't have ever suggested this, but I was reading about there are similarities. Hitler was born in Austria, not in Germany, and Obama was born in, well okay.. Hawaii, which had been a state for less than 24 months, 2,000 miles from the US mainland. Obama gained rapid popularity and took the white house with ideals of a new world order (just like hitler). Through majority he passed legislation over those in objection, ridiculing those who disagreed (again hitler).

Hitler ultimately destroyed his country because his powers were unchecked and and he thought what he was doing was right. I don't think obama is evil, but the similarities are kind of interesting

  • Question about wheel bearings?

Have a heavy-duty commercial floor scrubber 3-4 years old, when accelerating and going faster, experience a timely bump. (If you've ever pushed a shopping cart with a gash in one wheel- it is just like that)

Inspection of wheels reveals the are perfectly round and in good shape. Removed wheels and bearings appear fine. Could bearings still be bad even though they make no noise and have no wobble? This machine is very heavy. Parts are expensive, need to be sure before ordering

  • What is a good new ATT phone to get?

I don't want to spend an arm and a leg. I was first looking at Samsung Magnet, then Samsung Propel. I like the candy bar design of the Magnet- its lack of features, low memory, and vga camera aren't really considerations. I am just afraid its TOO cheap, you know? I don't want to get a phone that won't hold up. What should I get Magnet or Propel? or neither

  • I recently received a check from the FTC claims administration center with a check?

It said that it was re-payment for unauthorized charges made to my credit card account from years ago, and that I should cash the check. I looked up the case # at the FTC website and found this lawsuit was in Sep 2000. (FTC v. J.K. Publications) Why am i just getting the check now? Is this legit? The check and brief explanation seem valid. Anyone know anything about this, it isn't some kind of scam is it?

  • Age and effects of alcohol.?

A 27 year old friend argues that he can outdrink me because i am 43. he says the effects of alcohol increase as one ages. i know weight and individual differences may factor into it, but in general i think he is wrong.

Based on my own life experience i know it was much easier to get drunk when i was a younger man (20's). i'd drink two or three beers and notice an effect. now i can drink beer all day one after the other and not get drunk.

can anyone ellaborate or provide a link to a website with more info on this.
