Im 19 years old and have been riding horses for roughly 9 years. Ill warn you now I give honest answers that I believe are correct due to what ive learned or experienced myself. That being said it doesnt mean my opinion is actually correct or is the only correct answer out there ( i go by what i know and have learned). With things related to horses there can be many different correct answers and you should use the one that works best for you. If i come over as rude in my answers thats not my intent, but im also not going to sugar coat things to make people feel better.

  • full care lease prices?

Okay so ive never done this before and im considering leasing out my gelding. Ive decided i would like to do a full care lease, where the person leasing would just pay me instead of paying for everything themselves. This way I have better control and know what feed he is getting exc exc. I would provide tack (I have full western and english tack sets).

What would be a reasonable fee to charge?

A breed breakdown of the "Larger" Expences:

    $125 for board

    $100 for grain and supplements

    $100 for hay and shavings

    $35 for trims

Now some one else suggested i add a $100 fee ontop of that? wich is $460 a month.

Does that seem like a lot to you or reasonable? To me it seems a bit pricey but im not sure.

  • mares and producing milk?

Okay so i have a amre who is currently a pasture pet due to a past injury. Anyways Ive found out that she loves foals and very young horses. She is my "nanny" mare as i call her. I was talking to some one the other day about this and they said that i should consider her as a surogate mare for orphaned foals. The problem is when i think of surogate mares i think of mares who have lost their own foals and so its a perfect match. Anyways my mare is 18 years old and as far as i know has never been bred (ive owned her 6 years). Some one mentioned to me that some one elses foal had started to nurse on her mare and she started to produce milk again, however this mare was also used as a broodmare. So my question is, can a mare thats never been bred produce milk to support a orphaned foal? Sorry if this is stupid, but it sparked my interest so i thought i would ask.

  • should i ease her onto the grass?

Im bringing home my filly today and she will be going out to pasture, im wondering if i should ease her on it or if it would okay just to put her out there. The grass is very short but very green, i dont think its going to be a problem but i did want other opinions. Also she is very attached to another yearling and will be seperated from him, I want to put her out with my mare but im wondering if i should let her settle in first or just put them together?

  • Your opinion on AQHA shows?

Ok so i have only shown in ApHC shows and just a few, next year im hoping to compete more at the ApHC shows if the money is there. Anyways In a few years when my AQHA filly is ready to start showing (she is just a yearling i dont imagine us going to any breed shows until she is 5-6) Im planning on going to breed shows with her. My question is what are the people like who show at AQHA shows, Do you enjoy competeing with these people or do you find it hard to get along with them?

Ive only shown Appaloosa breed shows, and ive found the people are extremly nice and always willing to lend a hand. Ive been to a few open AQHA shows and my experience with the people ive shown against ( who show AQHA often) have been less then pleasent. I hate to lump every one in a catigory based on the people ive met, but im curious if this is other peoples experience as well?

  • how should you move with the horse?

okay so im a little puzzled I was always taught to ride left to right with my horse from all the different trainers ive had. Well my barn manager is taking lessons from a guy who is also horse judge an he is teaching her to move forward and back with the horse. So wich is the proper way to move with the horse?

It just has me completly stumped, especially since he is a judge. We ride western if that makes a difference, however her instructer rides primaly english i believe.

  • When looking for a trainer what turns you off?

Okay so if you were looking for a trainer is their anything besides the obvious ( you dont like teh way they trin, treat their horses exc) That turns you off from hireing them to train your horse or give you lessons?

My personal pet peave is when theys ay or imply their methods are the only right way and every one else is wrong. I personally think a good trainer is always learning from other trainers, i may not agree with certain "methods" but i find i can learn a lot of different things from trainers who teach and train different ways. I use what i like and if one way doesnt work i may try a different way until it cliques.

so what about you? What are some things that trainers/instrcters might say or do that turns you off from their services?

Okay so i have a show coming up and its a little bit bigger show then what ive been showing latly and i need a show shirt for it. My old fancy show shirts dont really fit me all that great, the only one that does is a bright pink one i only use for tough enough to wear pink shows. So im considering going to buy fabric and sewing my own shrt. It will be pretty basic. Any one ever sew there own shirts and how hard is it? Whats the best fabric to use? I do know how to sew but i havnt done it in a while and most of what ive done is pretty simple... blankets, pillows, boxer type shorts.... so would i jus be completly over my head? Im a little worried. Its a little to late and i dont have enough money to just order a shirt. Any really good paterns i shoudl look for or can order online?

  • weaning foals question?

When should you wean a foal?

Im very horse experiencd but im looking at buying my first weanling. I found one that looks wise is perfect for what i want (im going to look at her to make sure the personality that i want is there, since its not all about looks). I have two major concerns. The first being the lady wants to wean her from her mother at 3-4 months old. Is that apropriate? It seems like from what ive heard 4-5 months is ideal? Maybe im just remembering wrong. Secondly she is 2 months old and has very little handling... should i be concerned with this or is this normal?
