  • Why do I keep passing out?

I have been passing out every so often for several years now. I was also experiencing stomach problems, and I assumed it was related, however about 2 months ago my stomach problems were finally diagnosed. It turned out to be crohn's disease, which does indeed cause fainting due to nutritional difficency and dehydration.

BUT, my blood tests came back nagative for nutritional defficiencies after treatment was started for the crohn's, and the dehydration also resolved itself. The fainting, however actually got worse.

My specialist wondered if it was low blood pressure, or the change in pressure between lying and standing, but he checked this and my blood pressure is 110/75 (so completely normal), and my lying down blood pressure is 115/80 (so almost identical).

He concluded that it was not related to the crohn's disease, and so I should go see someone else about it.

So, what could possibly be causing it? It happens most frequently when I am in the shower, or am walking somewhere quite far, or when I stand up after sitting down for a while.

  • Skin flaking on one foot?

The skin on my left foot is flakey and dry and peeling off. It's been like that for weeks now, and it is getting worse, not better as time goes on.

The other foot is absolutely fine, and I did not sunburn it.

I do not have any eczema anywhere else, and am on immunosuppresants so it is unlikely that I would develop it.

Any idea what else could be the problem?

  • On Amitriptyline, what happens if I drink or smoke pot?

I am taking 10mg of Amitriptyline at nights for migraines, but I am going to a party this weekend and want to drink.

Can I drink a little bit?

What will happen if I do?

If I can't, then (hypothetically obviously) could I smoke pot?

  • Did I have a seizure in my sleep?

Last night I dreampt that I was having a seizure, which normally I would totally ignore as just a dream. However, when I woke up, I felt like someone had been beating me all over, and had an awful migraine. I was also really dazed and confused and had slept through my alarm. I also keep twitching.

Also, I am on a drug called metoclopramide (reglan in the US) which has the side effect of seizures if taken for too long.

On the other hand, I may just be being a hypochondriac.

  • Is it crohn's disease?

My doctor found ulcers at the bottom of my small intestines, which is indicative of crohn's disease (colonoscopy to check will be in about 2 months). However, I don't have the symptoms.

I get the abdominal pain, and the occasional low grade fever, but I do not have diarrhea, but instead I get nausea and vomiting. I also get migraines but they may be unrelated.

So, as crohn's is unpleasant and I don't want it, Is there anything else that could cause ulcers in the small intestines? Something that causes vomiting?

  • What shall i dress as for Halloween?

For the first year in ages, I am not doing Samhuinn with the Beltane fire society (worth a look though if you are in Edinburgh).

    So, I need a costume!!

A friend of mine is going as the morrigan, so maybe something in theme with that?

Also, no suggestions that are too sexy as it is Scotland in October, and so freezing cold.

I have plenty of corsets or cloaks I could use....

  • Was anyone else disgusted by the daily mail's article on druids?

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-1317490/...

The daily mail posted this article on druidism becoming an official religion.

What do you people think of it?

Were you as disgusted by it as I was?

  • my cat loves getting into the dustbin?

Does anyone elses cat like this?

It just seems a little odd for a cat, what with it being dirty and smelly in there.

They also really love the dirty laundry basket. Not the clean, the dirty.

Are my cats just a bit strange?

  • Do psychologists get taught statistical analysis?

I am doing a first year university psychology course, and so far we have not been taught any statistical analysis.

I assumed this was just first years, until our first tutorial, where the phd student teaching us did not seem to have a clue about it either.

Do other university's teach it? Will it start later?

  • My boyfriend hoards everything!?

I have been living with my boyfriend for over a year now, and not once have I ever managed to get the place tidy.

The problem is multi-layered. Firstly, if he gets anything out to use he does not put it back. Ever. It will remain scattered over the floor. Second, he will not throw away rubbish, he will just leave it round the house, and third, he hoards all sorts of things.

The things he hoards are things that "may be useful in the future" mostly, with a few that he just likes. The may be useful section is mainly computer parts, cables, etc. The just like second is things like a pink hammock (in Scotland!!) and a game that we never play. He also has a tenancy to keep irn bru bottles, as they keep coming in useful.

This would be ok if only we had a bigger flat, but as it is, its tiny!

Anything I can do about it?

  • What's the advantage to leaving a "Sorry we missed you" card?

I was supposed to be having a parcel delivered today. I heard a van outside my house, looked out the window, saw the guy sticking a "sorry we missed you" card under the main door (not the flat door) and quickly leave before i could catch him and berate him.

He made no attempt to use the buzzer (which is clearly labeled) and there is not much point in knocking on the main door of what is obviously a block of flats (no idea if he tried).

I have complained and phoned to get it redelivered, but what i want to know is why?

What advantage is there to the postman not to bother delivering the parcel? He will only have to come back tomorrow to be shouted at while he delivers it. Where is the advantage in that???

  • Auditions for the Mikado?

I am auditioning for the Mikado (just chorus), and they have said to pick any song you like for the audition.

I am a mezzo soprano (range of G below middle C to B octave above middle C), and my voice in untrained, resonates well on low notes, but doesn't have much depth on high notes.

I don't want to do a new song as I will only have a few days to practice, so that leaves me with anything from andrew lloyd webber, les mis, or the sun whose rays.

So, would choosing something from phantom or les mis annoy the auditioner? A lot of G&S'ers tend to be very much against andrew lloyd webber and so might not take well to it being sung.

    What should I do?

  • Brewing in plastic soda bottles?

I want to brew my own mead, and have everything except the large glass container.

So, do you need a large glass container, or is there something much much cheaper you can use?

Can you use a plastic soda bottle or will the plastic leech into the mead?

  • Where to start with my garden?

I live in Scotland (so no tropical plants!), and my 'garden' is about 8ft by 12ft. It is already separated into four beds by rather ugly gray paving stones.

However, currently it is what i like to call a 'wildflower meadow' and what everyone else calls a patch of weeds. They are quite pretty weeds though...

I tried to fix one bed this year by pulling out absolutely everything, roots and all, and planting blubs, and later a corriander plant in it's place. However, the flowers (not sure what they are) grew up around them from seed and took over again.

So, what do I do at this point? How do I make the plants I want grow and the ones I don't not grow?

  • A friend may be stealing?

A friend of mine had a problem with stealing about 5 years ago, but has had 4 years of therapy and drug treatments for the underlying cause since.

On the hand, this did not stop him being accused when things started getting stolen in the society.

Most things were left alone in public places, so it could have been pretty much anyone, but he was also the treasurer for the society. He was supposed to pay the money straight into the bank (there was a night deposit box), however he apparently didn't get round to it. On three separate occasions, a few weeks after a major event, his flat was robbed (it is in a very dangerous area. Almost every time i have visited the police have knocked on the door asking about his neighbours). That was about £2500 stolen from his flat. He then did not report the robberies to the police, and did not tell the committee about the loss of the money.

Another incident was at a party on an island. An mp3 player was stolen from an island containing three groups. Two groups knew each other, and most people have alibies for the entire night, and the third group had so much ketamine in them that they couldn't even walk the afternoon after.

Trouble is, all of these have perfectly reasonable explinations, it is just his history that is biasing people. He has shown himself to me to be a trustworthy guy after the councilling, and yet the rather... odd... secretary of the society is trying to get him put in prison for fraud and theft! I just don't believe he did it. To start with, with 2.5k in his pocket he would be able to afford electricity more often, and wouldn't sometimes get food from supermarket dumpsters just so he has something to eat. And if he was stealing girls bags there would be evidence of them in his flat (which i have recently totally stripped to help redocorate- no girls bags there, and he doesn't have an mp3 player, stolen or otherwise).

He also wouldn't be stealing things to sell on, as the previous incidence of stealing was part of his compulsive behavior, he was caught as he hoarded it. If the compulsive behaviors had returned at all he would still be hoarding it.

I just don't know what to do, I do not want him to go to prison (he would REALLY not do well in there to start with, and has been raped quite enough for one person already) and believe he is innocent, but cannot prove that to others who doubt him.

  • Is it a brain tumour?

For the last 2 years now, I have been having nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, headaches and extreme fatigue. In the last 6 months or so I have started having sensory hallucinations as well (so far hearing things and smelling things that arn't there), my headaches have become migranes (at 22??) including some aura symptoms (the blurred vision) and just this last month I have started getting sleep paralysis.

The doctors have searched my digestive track from end to end and haven't found anything to explain the vomiting, so could there actually be something up with me brain? Do I have a tumour?
