  • Which PS3s are backwards compatible?

So I just up and sold my Xbox 360 and bought a PS3 (250 GB) today.

Two years ago, I wanted an upgrade from my PS2 (still have it, still love it), and I decided to try something new, so I got a 360. I ended up not liking it that much and it basically became a DVD player.

I digress. So I got my new PS3, hooked it up and played with the settings. I was excited to play one of my favorite PS2 games, lo and behold, it wasn't compatible. It felt like a freaking punch in the gut. I instantly turned to Google and learned a new term today: backwards compatibility. Another punch in the gut.

I dropped $250+ on a new PS3 and it won't play any of the games I already have (all of which, I'm willing to bet, don't have PS3 versions). That was one of the main reasons I got it. I assumed that this fancy, expensive machine could play a little PS2 game when a simple PS2 can still play PS1 games. Playstation really dropped the ball on this one.

(Sorry for venting. I'm angry at myself for not doing any research beforehand.)

    My questions are:

So which PS3s are backwards compatible and where can I get one?

Also, wtf am I supposed to do with the $250 mistake? Will Walmart take it back after it's been turned on and tweeked with (I only changed some settings and made the downloads for internet and the Playstation Store [I was desperately and hopelessly searching for my games]).

    Please help me.

  • What were some uses of inedible animal parts back in the day?

Okay, so I’m writing a report on human-animal dependence and I need some examples.

I’ve tried Googling some stuff, but nothing really came up. I guess I’m just not sure how to phrase the question. Here’s what I want to know:

How did prehistoric people (Cro-Magnons, Neanderthals, maybe even the hominids before them) make use of the inedible parts of the animals they hunted? Or even the parts that they just didn’t eat? I would like to know several examples in detail.

A few examples I sort of know about:

    -Clothing from the skin/hides

    -Shelters from mammoth bones

    -Bones for tools

    -Water bags from stomachs

    -Glue from hooves

Most of those I only know from reading The Clan of the Cave Bear. It’s fiction, but I would imagine that a lot of it is reasonably true.

So I guess my question(s) is:

How would I ask/phrase the question so that I can find the information I need?

    and/or

Are there any good websites that would have this information?

  • What causes there to be no solution for systems of linear equations in three variables?

Does it occur when there is a mixed number?

I already know there is no solution, but I don't know why. I started to solve and got Z=-9/5. Can I just stop there, or is there a reason to continue and find X and Y?

  • Is there a digital camera with the same controls as my 35mm, manual camera?

I'm taking a photography class at the college I'm going to and I'm really starting to love the camera I'm using. It's a Pentax, 35mm, manual, old school camera. I love everything about it. I love the simplistic, external controls for the aperture and shutter speed, and I love the light meter (it has the needle that you try to balance horizontally in the space between two vertical lines). The only thing that (after the class is over) won't be practical for me is the film aspect. See, I love everything about the camera, and I have nothing against film (it's cool so far), but I would like for it to have digital storage (like an SD card) for photos instead of film. So basically, a digital camera with the same controls/features as the one I have.

    My question is:

    Does this camera exist somewhere?

And if not, what is the most similar thing I am going to be able to find?

See, my friend got a Cannon Rebel online, and I looked at it and was not impressed. I didn't like how you have to adjust the aperture and shutter speed with a little screen--one of the reasons I like mine so much is because I can adjust them without even taking the camera away from my face to look. I wasn't crazy about the light meters either; I love how simple mine is.

I guess I would get used to whatever I got, but I would like to get something as similar as possible. And if that doesn't exist, what would you recommend?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Did I ruin my film by winding it too much?

So I'm taking a photography class for college, and we got our first assignment a few days ago. I'm new to using the old school, manual 35mm cameras. Yesterday I finished a roll of color film (our first assignment was to take some pictures with the color film--just to get us comfortable with the camera--and take them to Walgreen's or Walmart to get them developed). I wound it up when I reached the end, but I was so worried about it not winding up properly that I think I wound it too much. When you first get a new roll of film, there is the part that sticks out (the part that you use to load it into the camera). I might be wrong, but after you finish a roll and wind it back up, shouldn't that little bit of film still be sticking out? The roll I wound doesn't have any film sticking out at all; all of it is completely inside the little capsule. :(

My question is: will this affect the develop-ability of my film? Is my film totally ruined, or is there a chance that someone who knows what they're doing can fix it?

  • If you have your choice of seats in a movie theater, where do you sit?

Let's say you're going to see a movie in a theater. In these two situations where are you going to be:

Situation 1: You have the theater all to yourself.

Situation 2: The theater is gonna be packed, but you get to choose your seat first.

  • Which biblical "rules" are no longer followed to this day?

I'm talking about the beard shavin', polygyny, clothing of mixed fabrics, women not allowed to wear pants, stuff.

I'm not familiar with the bible; these are just things I've heard.

These and any other things that are "rules of the bible" that no longer apply to today would be appreciated.

If you could include the book, chapter, and verse that relates to it, that would be nice too.

  • Really, what is wrong with gay marriage?

I'm not interested in religious reasons; I have grown jaded by them.

And "procreation" or "continuation of the species" aren't going to get you any points either.

I would like to hear some fresh ideas. Just one, even.

  • How would I cite this?

I need to use MLA, but I don't know how I would cite this since it's continually changing... if that even makes a difference. Is it even cite-able?

  • Would someone please tell me the name of the singer(s) on the Philadelphia Cream Cheese commercial?

The commercial I'm thinking of has two singers: one guy and one girl. I've spent the last hour looking for the guy singer. I love his voice and I just wish I could know his name or group. When I first heard the commercial I tried looking for him, but now I can't even find the actual commercial on YouTube.

It goes a little bit like this:

Girl sings: Spread a little love today.

Guy sings: Spread a little love my way.

Both: Spread a little something to remember.

Then a lady starts talking about the product. While they are singing, there is a couple that is having breakfast in bed and they are eating strawberries or something, and one of them wipes a bit of Philly on the other's nose.

NOTE: It is NOT Life-Size Humans.

I've heard that version several times; it keeps showing up when I try looking. It sounds nothing like the song on the commercial that I'm thinking of and it doesn't sound like the singers either.

Please help me. Even a link to the commercial would be appreciated at this point. I've just never heard a voice like his, and I would love to see if he's done anything else.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Stock market lingo translation?

So i've got to analyze why some of my chosen stocks (for school) did what they did. It's hard enough as is, and the whole stock market thing is over my head. Would someone be wiling to explain to me what they are saying, or a simplified summary of what they mean. Please? :)

    1. Waste Management Inc announced the declaration of a quarterly cash dividend of $0.355 per share payable September 21, 2012 to stockholders of record on September 7, 2012.

    2. Waste Management Inc announced that it has priced an underwritten public offering of $500 million aggregate principal amount of 2.90% senior notes due September 15, 2022 under an effective shelf registration statement previously filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The notes will be fully and unconditionally guaranteed by the Company’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Waste Management Holdings, Inc. The notes have been assigned ratings of BBB by both Standard & Poor’s and Fitch and Baa3 by Moody’s. The offering is expected to close on Sept. 12, 2012. The Company plans to use the net proceeds of the offering to repay the $400 million principal amount of its outstanding 6.375% senior notes when they mature in November, plus accrued and unpaid interest on those notes. All remaining proceeds will be used for general corporate purposes, including additions to working capital and capital expenditures. Barclays Capital Inc., BNP Paribas Securities Corp., and Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith Incorporated are acting as joint book-running managers of the offering. In addition, Goldman, Sachs & Co., J.P. Morgan Securities LLC, Morgan Stanley & Co. • What kind of memory/hard drive is best for a music/gaming lap top?

So i'd like to get a laptop. I want something that can handle tons of music and games and not end up getting SLOW. Okay maybe it’s more like a few games and a ton of music. I just want something that can handle all of that on top of other things like a few pictures, Word, PowerPoint, etc. and not get slow. Mostly i just don't want it to get slow.

I was looking at some of the laptops at Best Buy, and i saw some things like 4, 6, or 8 GB of memory, and like 200, 400, 520, or 750 GB of hard drive.

Some of the ones that were like 8, and 750, cost around $800. The cheapest i found was like $300-something, but it was like 2 and 100 or something. I don't want something with like no room, but i also want something within my price range (under $600).

I know i'll need to make the final decision and all, but i'd just like to know how the memory and hard drive play into the amount of song/games i can have. Right now i easily have 8 GB of just music on my PC. I don't think i will put all of that on my laptop, but i would like a lot of it. And if i have so much music where does that leave games? I'm not a huge gamer, but there are a few that i really like and want.

I guess what i'm asking is if i want my music and my games, what should i be looking for in memory and hard drive? And what's the difference between the two? Also, if i need to sacrifice one or the other to stay in my price range, which should it be?

Advice on anything that i missed, or anything else that i should be concerned about would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you very much.

  • How to solve a very common probability question?

A grab bag contains 3 football cards and 7 basketball cards. An experiment consists of taking one card out of the bag, replacing it, and then selecting another card. What is the probability of selecting a football card and then a basketball card? Express your answer as a decimal.

    A. 0.49

    B. 0.09

    C. 0.21

    D. 0.23

It's not WHAT the answer is, that i’m looking for, but HOW to get the answer. This question—or a question like it—is always on my Math finals, and i have no idea how to solve it. Will you please help me with the steps involved? Thank you.

  • Are there not any NON-rap songs that have a good bass?

I've got a really nice sound system in my car, and i'd like to put it to good use. ;)

My only problem is that i don't have that many songs with an outstanding bass.

Starstruck by Lady GaGa sounds very nice in my car. :)

There is still a rap part in it, tho.

Quacky by Afrojack & Sidney Samson, and Narcotica (DJ Zealot And Hardux Remix) by Sun X Boyz both sound pretty amazing too.

My question is: do you know any good, hard bass songs that don't have any rap?

Techno, rock, and metal are great. I'm pretty open-minded, but just not to rap. Haha.

    Thanks. :)

  • Question about Biology/Pathology?

Streptomycin (an antibiotic) binds to the small ribosomal subunit of bacteria (but not to the ribosomes of the host cells infected by bacteria). The result is the misreading of bacteria mRNA and the breakup of polysomes. What process is being affected, and how does this kill the bacterial cells?

  • How would you punctuate "on the fence" and...?

In my essay i want to use it for this sentence:

If someone is on-the-fence—about anything—then that is going to affect their decisions.

    Is that right?

    or

Would i just put it in quotes like: "on the fence"

    or

Would i hyphenate it like: on-the-fence

    or

    What?

Also, am i using the double dash (—) thingys right?

    or

Would i be better off just using a comma in this one like:

If someone is on-the-fence, about anything, then that is going to affect their decisions.
