  • If you chat with people for years online but have never met physically do you still consider them friends?

Anyone who reads this, I'd be interested in hearing your opinions.

As the world has become more networked the past several years, people have become more "connected" in different ways. 20 years ago, we were pretty limited to interacting only with people we actually had met in person at some point throughout our lives. In some instances, we may have known people strictly by phone (if working in a phone-intensive industry, or talking repeatedly to people in the same company, but in a different office--though, never having actually met in person), but for the most part, we did not have much "virtuality" in our everyday lives. Things are much different now.

Do you have people in your friends/followers list who you have never met in person, with whom you may have interacted for a while?

And if you interact for a long time with people online (whom you have never met in person), do you consider them "friends" or in some "other" category, such as just online voices, or objects?

Do you find social rules/customs to be different with those you interact with online, but have never met in person? For instance, would you just suddenly "end" an association with a virtual "friend" or "acquaintance" without actually telling them (such as unfriending, blocking, etc.), and would you treat people you know in person in the same way?

  • Whatever happened to the old Lineup Mexican Restaurant in San Francisco?

I believe it was South of Market. Went there a few times with friends during the 80's but don't know whatever became of the place. Where was it located? Whatever happened to it? What is it now?

  • Is Enameled Cast Iron good for a Stock Pot or Soup Pot?

A long time ago, I bought 8, 12, and 16 qt sizes of large pots in both Stainless Steel...AND...Enameled Cast Iron. No, I am not a professional chef, I just found a great deal so I bought them both.

I mainly used the Enameled Cast Iron mostly for the oven and used the stainless for soups. But what I am wondering now is how would the Enameled Cast Iron work as a stock pot or soup pot?

I am thinking of downsizing off the stainless and keeping only the cast iron, because it's cramped and I could use the space, but if it doesn't work well then I will keep them all. Thanks for any advice.

  • Has anyone here ever cooked with Rena-Ware stainless cookware and is it any good?

A friend of mine is moving overseas and liquidating everything. She has a set of this cookware (used) and is offering to sell it to me at a good price, but I don't know anything about it. Wondering if anyone here has used it and what you think of it? Thanks.

  • What is an oblong skillet for?

I have acquired a few oblong skillets at an estate sale. They are stainless with copper bottoms and obviously high quality, but I am not familiar with what oblong skillets would be used for, except maybe fish? However, how do you keep them on the burner? Or do you heat one side and then the other? Thanks in advance for the advice of any of you experienced cooks and chefs out there!

  • Is the drug Avelox effective if you cut the tablets?

My doctor prescribed Avelox 400mg for 10 days. I have been taking them for 7 days so far, but the only way I can do it and manage the side effects is to cut the pills in 1/4's and take them every half hour with a piece of bread. So I take them at the same time every day, starting with the first 1/4 around 4:30pm and ending with the last 1/4 at 6:30pm. So I get the whole dose ingested over the course of 2 hrs at the same time each day (and I'm able to keep it down without vomiting). I read that the instructions say not to cut or chew the tablets, but I was wondering if what I'm doing is still OK? Any pharmacists or Dr's out there who can answer? I would appreciate it. Thanks.

  • What do you do while wrapping Xmas gifts?

For example, I have this "ritual" which I started some years ago - every year while wrapping gifts (usually Xmas eve) I put on ABBA CD's and crank them up. Don't know how it started I guess just one year by accident...but I have a lot of great memories throughout the years back from high school dances in the 70's to discos in the 80's while living in Europe and parties with friends throughout the years. Brings out pleasant memories and keeps my energy level high and combats all the BAD memories tied to the holidays which I really don't care for. But anyway that's what I do and the energy gets me through the drudgery of gift wrapping. Just wondering if anyone else has anything fun they do while wrapping gifts.

  • Anyone else have a bad experience with Love Happens (lovehappens.com)?

I got an email a while back that several of my friends were on this site, and it even sent me their pictures, so I joined the site. Then I found out your friends aren't actually added to your network, you needed to know what their profile name is and add them manually. That is stupid. So I left my profile there and they start asking me to pay to join, which I didn't because it's like $100 for a few months which is ridiculous. They have nothing of value on their site and send a lot of spam, so today I went to just remove the profile and there is no way to do it without calling their number...which sounds like forwards to a CALL CENTER IN INDIA because there was a lot of hiss, an audible delay in the voice transmissions, and she had a major accent and was having difficulty understanding me. Anyway, they said they would remove the profile, but I have heard that they do not follow up on this like they say they will. So I will watch.

They should rename their site to shithappens.com

  • How can I specify to donate my heart (upon death) to a friend who has heart failure?

I am registered as an organ donor in the state of CA and it's also updated on my drivers license and I also carry the ID card with me in my wallet next to the license. I emailed the registry foundation to ask this question, but they never got back to me.

My question is, I have a friend around the same age who was diagnosed with heart failure a while back. I would like to specify that if I should die, I want my heart to be made available for transplant for my friend FIRST and only then if it's not possible for him to receive it can they offer it to someone else. Do I need to put this in a will or something? Thank you.

  • Someone says "So tell me about yourself" on a date or email through a dating service. Are they socially inept?

I've always heard/read that it's polite to have a conversation and start off slowly and lightly, just let the conversation go where it may. I think many people (even though they may be confident) just don't feel that it is good or polite etiquette to just start giving an open discourse about themselves...on a DATE anyway (A job interview is a little different). I was always taught that it's great to learn to ask another person specific questions about themselves and let the conversation go where it may, as opposed to just putting them on the spot with a rather cold and detached sounding phrase such as "So tell me about yourself!". OK, so I realize people have different styles and maybe I'm in left field here, but to me it seems to imply a kind of social ineptitude (lack of skills) or maybe just social laziness whenever a date (or potential date) asks me this. It catches me off guard...I think "is this a date or a job interview", and it's a BIG TURNOFF.

  • Tax year 2004: State: California - WHAT IS THE DEADLINE FOR FILING FOR REFUND?

Much as I appreciate the *thoughtfulness* of people who think that "taking a guess" is helpful...who I would really like to hear from here is a Tax Preparer, CPA or Tax Lawyer who knows exactly (unequivocally) what the California Tax Code says about statute of limitations for filing for refunds.

I went through a very long disability. I had taxes withheld via my employer in year 2004 for the short time that I worked. I am certain that I am entitled to a refund. I know that the Fed deadline for claiming a return is 3 yrs from the due date. But what I do not know for sure is the California deadline for claiming refund.

According to a document I downloaded from the CA FTB, if I understand correctly, the deadline is 4 years from the due date of the return, but I want to be sure.

    Thank you.

  • What is a good bicycle for a beginning cyclist?

Currently in my early 40's. I haven't spent much time riding a bike since I was a kid, though I have used the Lifecycle at the gym many times. Now I have moved to a place where there are a lot of outdoor trails and I want to get into outdoor cycling. But I don't want to spend a lot of money for a fancy bike right away, since I'm still a beginner.

What is a good entry-level bike that I should look for. What price range are we talking? 300? 500?

    Thanks.
