Is the drug Avelox effective if you cut the tablets?
My doctor prescribed Avelox 400mg for 10 days. I have been taking them for 7 days so far, but the only way I can do it and manage the side effects is to cut the pills in 1/4's and take them every half hour with a piece of bread. So I take them at the same time every day, starting with the first 1/4 around 4:30pm and ending with the last 1/4 at 6:30pm. So I get the whole dose ingested over the course of 2 hrs at the same time each day (and I'm able to keep it down without vomiting). I read that the instructions say not to cut or chew the tablets, but I was wondering if what I'm doing is still OK? Any pharmacists or Dr's out there who can answer? I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Avelox is not on the do not crush list. I know cipro crushed can taste nasty, I'm not quite sure about Avelox. It is better that you take the medication than not take it at all.
You can actually cut most tablets, as long as they are not an extended release medication, etc.
