One in quest of truth and beauty. I don't have all the answers. Gosh, I don't even have most of the questions. Just seeking. Occasionally finding. What more can one hope for? It is enough.

5 AnswersOther - Hardware1 decade agoWhat is your opinion of the proposed California ban on use of incandescent light bulbs?
"A California lawmaker wants to make his state the first to ban incandescent lightbulbs as part of California's groundbreaking initiatives to reduce energy use and greenhouse gases blamed for global warming.
The "How Many Legislators Does it Take to Change a Lightbulb Act" would ban incandescent lightbulbs by 2012 in favor of energy-saving compact fluorescent lightbulbs."

12 AnswersPolls & Surveys1 decade agoWhat can I do about having too many processes running on my computer even when I first boot the computer?
I have been told that one reason my computer seems to run out of RAM memory fairly quickly is that I have too many processes running at once. The computer has 500 MB RAM and I am running Windows XP. When I boot the computer there are already between 60-65 processes running. What I don't understand is the following:
1-How can I tell which processes can be safely turned off?
2-How can I keep unnecessary processes from returning the next time I boot the computer (i.e., how do I turn them off permanently)?

20 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoIs it time for a new Archie Bunker?
I'm thinking that America and the world lost a national treasure when Archie Bunker and All in the Family and its spin-off Archie Bunker's Place went off the air back in the early '80s. That kind of humor was very effective in combating narrow-minded bigotry. I think it's time for a new Archie Bunker who defies all the politically correct crap we see these days and brings to light again the true heart of the important issues facing our society today. What do you think?

1 AnswerEconomics1 decade agoWhat is your best guess for when mankind will reach Mars?
I'm guessing 2040.
Back in 1953 as a teenager being interviewed on a local TV channel on a program examining science fiction I made the prediction that man would soon reach the moon. The interviewer smiled somewhat condescendingly and went on to other topics. I'm sure though in 1969 when my prediction came true just 16 short years later that interviewer remembered what I had said way back when.

5 AnswersAstronomy & Space1 decade agoWhy do you suppose Yahoo! doesn't object to exporting hate filled messages to the whole world?
I assume it doesn't object because this site transmits messages of hatred worldwide instantaneously via the Internet and Yahoo! does little or nothing about stopping it. The hate filled messages posted by racists, bigots and homophobes stay on site for long periods of time while minor violations of the TOS like "chatting" are treated much more stringently. Meanwhile it's getting to be like a cesspool around here.
