Is it time for a new Archie Bunker?

I'm thinking that America and the world lost a national treasure when Archie Bunker and All in the Family and its spin-off Archie Bunker's Place went off the air back in the early '80s. That kind of humor was very effective in combating narrow-minded bigotry. I think it's time for a new Archie Bunker who defies all the politically correct crap we see these days and brings to light again the true heart of the important issues facing our society today. What do you think?

Absolutely! And I hope he uses the n word and says Merry Christmas. This p.c. stuff is only window dressing, and doesn't change a person or anything else to make the world a better place. When is the last time anything "P.C." has actually made the world a better place, or even made your own life better?

No. With all the things that goes on now... it's not the time. There will never be another ARchie Bunker. Look how people reacted to what Michael Richards said, Mel Gibson, Danny DeVito, Rosie O'Donnell. People are sitting on their toes waiting for someone to say somethign racist sot hey can jumpt hem. And the thing is... it's not like we don't know about racism but we hide it and when someoen says those words... they are hounded. Yes it's wrong but it's just as wrong as suing that person. Poor Michael Richards apologized so many times, andnow he's being sued. It's gone to a proportion that it doesn't even make sense.

If they had another Archie... the show would be sued by so many people. It's notw orth it.

I agree with you. In some way there has been. Some t.v. shows push the envelope, but in no way are they boarder line groundbreaking. Shows like Mind of Mencia are just stupid, wow its a Mexican guy making fun of everyone, but you first need to be funny before you can push the social commentary card. Also he is on basic cable, and you can get away with allot more. But overall I agree, that show was funny, it had allot to say about social conflicts, and related to the lower-middle class. Today shows don't relate to people. They are situations that the common population cannot relate to. All in the family was about a middle-lower class family, blue collar, and invoked the issues of the time. True there are people like Archie bunker today, but people are to up tight to get the joke. And it is sad but people take themselves to seriously. And most of the time people don't like to think when they watch t.v. so most shows are dumbed down to not have a deeper meaning, or really give any insight to whats going on in the world.

I think we definately do. If it's not to combat "narrow-minded bigotry", then at least to give us an alternative to the lame crime dramas, cookie-cutter sitcoms, and supposed reality TV.
