How would I go about measuring the weight of my shadow? Wait!! Now here me out....?
An area covered in shadow TECHNICALLY weighs LESS than the area around it that is covered in or being "pushed" by light. Yes? Any ideas on how one would go about measuring this?
Or is measuring a shadow not even worth the endeavor of someone who is curious because of some elemental flaw that I just am not seeing?
Please advise.

For part (a) I got 2-pentanone
For part (b) I got 1-butal
Can someone spot-check this for me?
I'm not confident that these are correct.
Thanks guys :-)
3 AnswersChemistry7 years agoGive the IUPAC name for the following compound? Don't be scared - it's not some crazy compound, please take a look at it.?
I got 3-ethyl-3-pentanol but I feel like that's not right.
Can someone verify for me? Thanks :-)
1 AnswerChemistry7 years agoWho Wants to Answer a Crystal Question!?!?
The volume of one atom of a metal is 3.57 x 10^5 pm^3. The metal has a face-centered cubic crystal structure. What is the volume of the unit cell?
(A) 3.65 x 10^5 pm^3
(B) 2.43 x 10^6 pm^3
(C) 1.93 x 10^6 pm^3
(D) 1.05 x 10^6 pm^3
(E) 6.70 x 10^5 pm^3
Okay, so let me start by thanking you for clicking on my question. Thank you.
The FCC structure has 4 atoms per 1 unit cell (See image).
So, take the volume that's given, which is the volume of 1 atom and multiply by 4 which gives you 1,428,000 or 1.428x10^6 pm^3 but none of the choices are even close.
And what's worse, I don't have the answer key so I am flying blind.
Any suggestions? If you do happen to make a calculation that is one of the multiple choice answers, please walk me through on what you did to arrive at that solution.
Thanks guys :-D

1 AnswerChemistry7 years agoConsider this hypothetical reaction: A + 2B + C ---> AB2C Experimental evidence shows that the reaction occurs in three elementary steps?
Step 1: A + B ---> AB (slow)
Step 2: AB + B ---> AB2 (fast)
Step 3: AB2 + C <---> AB2C (fast, reversible)
(See graphic: http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj83/metro_cub/...
Which rate law is consistent with this mechanism?
(A) rate = k[A][B]
(B) rate = k[AB][B]
(C) rate = k[AB][AB2]
(D) rate = k[A][B]^2[C]
Please explain how you got the answer. Thank you :-)

4 AnswersChemistry7 years agoElectrochemistry Galvanic Cell Question - Come on you know you want to answer this. You totally do.?
What is the overall cell reaction?
(A) Zn^2+ + 2H2O --> Zn + H2O2 + 2H+
(B) Zn + H2O2 + 2H+ ---> Zn^2+ + 2H2O
(C) Zn + H2O2 + 2H+ + 4e- ---> Zn^2+ + 2H2O
(D) Zn^2+ + H2O2 ---> Zn + H2O + ½ O2
I know what the correct answer is but I am clueless as to why its the correct answer.
I worked it out and circled choice (B) but the answer key said no, that's completely wrong.
If anyone is willing to give this problem a go and answer with a choice and MOST importantly and complete and detailed explanation as to the reasoning behind the answer I would be MOST appreciative.
Thank you guys for taking the time to do this.
3 AnswersChemistry7 years agoArrhenius Equation Problem Involving a Biological Reaction?
If the activation energy, Ea, for a certain biological reaction is 50 kJ/mol. By what factor, or in other words, how many times will the rate of this reaction increase when the body temperature increases from 37°C (normal) to 40°C (fever)?
(A) 1.15
(B) 1.20
(C) 2.0x10^5
(D) 1.0002
(E) 2.0
Soooo.....I thought I was on the right track using the following equation:
ln(k2/k1) = (Ea/R)(1/T1 - 1/T2)
I plugged all the values in that were given to me and solved for the (k2/k1) ratio and boom....my calculator displayed the value 1.0002. And so I circled (D). According to the practice test key my answer is wrong and stupid. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be awesome cuz I really don't know where else to go on this one.
Thanks everyone :-p
