I'm 16, and am a pretty good rider. I have a horse, Rebel. He is a very bulky paint. Probably the BEST trail horse I have ever ridden. He is very sweet. I help train horses and give insight to the less experienced riders. I spend a lot of time in the Horses section, and in the Beauty and Relationships section. Feel free to ask anything horse related.

  • Financial Aid Question...Federal Pell Grant?

So, For a federal Pell grant if you apply, and get so much for each semester, if you don't take any classes one semester, does the money go back to the government, or does it come back to you since they already "gave" it to you

  • Puffiness of coronary band?

My horse - 16 hh Paint, 11 y/o, gelding - coronary bands(each hoof) is a little puffy/swollen. Not tender to touch, no lameness. He also has very soft heels but since we live in a wet environment that can be attributed to water log. He has rain rot on his back legs, which I am currently treating - are the puffy coronary bands anything related/ to worry about? Just trying to figure out whats going on

  • Two Horse Questions that are totally unrelated to each other?

1.) I have a pancur powerpack and my vet told me to give my horse a double dose(so instead of 1000 weight each day she wants me to give him 2000 weight) Is this wise? Has anyone elses vet done this? and Can you overworm a horse?

2.) I rode twice this week, one day bareback, one day western, I noticed that loping ina saddle one leg tends to go back some and kinda throw me and the horse off blance. Any suggestions or does anyone have this problem?

  • Anyone who has been in 4-H or is in 4-H or kknows anything about 4-H?

It is time to re-enroll and I was looking at the riding projects.

Now I know Horse master is really hard and you have to complete one 50 mile ride, can someone please explain Horseman and Novice to me. In 4-H Terms though, what is required in each of those projects. I know what a novice rider is, just don't know what is expected of them in the 4-H project.

  • Just a Discussion Question on Shelters/Rescues?

Do you guys think that rescues/shelters/adoption centers are making it nearly impossible to adopt animals?

I mean, I was looking at one place for horse adoptions, and they are super strict

    ~No breeding(understandable)

~No stallions allowed on property where horse is kept(So that means If I were to adopt and a Stud moved into my barn, they would take the horse back)

~You can move once you adopt the horse, but not far, you have to stay so close to the rescue-meaning adopting a horse in VA, growing to love it, having to move,=having to give that horse up.

And then The VBSPCA, I am a big supporter don't get me wrong, donate yearly, do the walk-a-thon, they have a dog, heartworm positive, they wont treat here until someone adopts her. That could kill her! A Vet/Rescue worker shouldn't allow it.

    So what do you think?

  • Fun question-What are signs of inteeligence in a horse to you?

Just a simple question. What shows you that horse has at least some intelligence?

My horse showed me his intelligence today. I hopped off him on the trail because I forgot his fly spray and he is very sensitve to the biting flys, he was freaking out. I was walking ahead of him because he does follow me. My mom(who is terrified of horses and working on getting over it) was behind him on King, Rebel all the sudden stopped and my mom yelped. She though he had stumbled but when I turned around he had somehow managed to get the reins under his leg and stil laround his head. He didn't freak out, he just waited very patiently While I worked him free.

So List the things that show you a horse is at least a little intelligent.

  • Probably A Question for Kevin - Rough Stock?

How come you don't see any female rough stock riders? I know it takes strenght and a certain mind-set, but is it actually not allowed, just untraditional, or are there some, just at lower level rodeos. I mean all you see women compete in really is Barrel Racing, why not rough stock?

  • Good Day Riding?

I just have to say I am so happy I chose to go bareback when riding today, there were so many low branches, the horn would of gotton in the way, especial at this one with thick branches which me and a friend to gther couldn't move.(thank god my horse kinda ducks) He was also pretty well behaved today. Which makes me extremely happy because I have to go three weeks without seeing him. And I wont be able to talk to anyone at the barn, so sad. So to make this a question:: What should I do to not be to sad about not seeing him and whats the longest you have been away from your horse?
