  • What are the risks of spaying a cat at an older age (8 years)?

Are there any tests I should do ahead of time? What are my options in the sense of sedation?

  • To all happy couples: Would you still love your partner if they would be the opposite gender?

This question is mostly aimed at people in happy, longterm relationships - would you still love (i.e. continue the relationship with all aspects) you partner if they would be the opposite gender, but the same person/personality?

  • Can a traumatic even trigger separation anxiety in cats?

So my cat never used to like me to much. Got the random attention attacks, but overall just considered me the source of food. Then one day she fell behind the water heater in the closet, which was round, in a corner and had kitten stuck in the corner space, head down, at the bottom. After freaking out, I drained the heater and pried it away from the wall, so that my wife could lift up the cat. Cat was fine, I held her for about an hour then she went into hiding for about a week.

Now kitty loves me. Meows at me when I walk by. Wants to be on my lap. Rubs her head against me. Purrs. Has to sit within 2 feet of me at all times. And overall has turned into the most annoying cat ever.

Can something like that be triggered by a traumatic event and does anyone heard about something like that before?

  • Do cats like the smell of their own butt?

My cat sleeps in a wonderful round furball with her nose tucked under her tail. Does she just ignore the fact that she's smelling her own butt or is there a widespread acceptance of the fact that cats like the smell of their butts?

  • My cat looks at me funny?

This is actually a serious question. I own 3 cats, one of them is a 5 year old ragdoll (16lb) boy with sealpoint pattern and blue eyes. I only have him since a few weeks and he finally settled in. I keep noticing that his eye movement when he's looking around seems to be different from my other cats. You can see his eyes move from left to right and back, quite a bit when he looks around - my other cats do focus on either me or something else rather quickly. His vision seems to be good, he's healthy & active. Anyone has any insight while his eye movement seems very untypical for a cat?.

  • My cat won't eat or drink.?

Hi, I recently adopted a new cat. He's a 5 year old 7lb ragdoll and came to me with URI (aka Kitten cold). I had him checked out by my vet and other then tapeworms (taken care of) and the URI he seems to be fine. However, he does not drink or eat at all. He seems reasonable active (for a ragdoll) but still a bit scared. Question I have: How long can the cat be fine w/o drinking? My vet gave him a fluid IV on Monday and I have not seen him drink since then. I checked his hydration with the 'pull skin' test and it does return back to normal, but over several seconds. I am considering forcing him to drink, but he's already traumatized enough from the antibiotics he gets twice a day. At what point should he go back to my vet and at what point should I force him to drink? I tried to feed him dry food, wet food and tuna, but he sniffs it and goes away.

  • My dog fell over last night and seemed unable to use her back legs. Any idea what could have happened?

So I did hear my dog scramble in the hallway last night and when I found her she was laying on her belly and seemed unable to move her back legs. She was trembling, but breathing and heartbeat was strong and steady. I pushed her onto her bed and she just laid there for a few mins, then she got up and is now acting like nothing ever happend. She did not loose conciousness or seem to show any other typical seizure signs and was back to normal within minutes. She did not limp or anything afterwards. Whole thing lasted just a few minutes. She's a 70lb lab mix without any health history. I have an appointment with my vet, but am curious what this could have been.

  • Does an external hard drive exist that permits simultaneous access via USB and network?

I am looking for a storage solution which can be hooked via USB as a normal USB drive and hooked to the network via ethernet and accessed simultaneously. My specific setup is a DVD/media player which can read from a connected USB hard drive. I wany to be able to copy files to this hard drive over my network while the drive is connected to the DVD player.
