I'm happy!
What's the song at the beginning of The Shining (Kubrick version)?
This is really annoying. I want to buy the bloody song, but the bloody artist is so ridiculously protective of the copyright, I can't find any decent source with both A NAME OF THE SONG and A BRIEF AUDIO CLIP for confirmation. I get tons of videos removed by Youtube links, I can't find jack on iTunes, and it's straight BUGGIN'. I WANT TO GIVE YOU MONEY, GD IT!!! Just give me a snippet so I know I'm buying the right *%^$#ing song!!!
Sorry for ranting. To clarify, I'm looking for the heavy brass song in the beginning when they're driving through the mountains. And if you know where I can buy it, that'd be appreciated, too.
Thanks.
6 AnswersMovies1 decade agoWhere can I find an Asian Grocer in Seattle?
I'm looking to learn to cook Indian, Thai, and Chinese food. However, the recipes tend to require a lot more than what I can find at Safeway or QFC. Anyone know where I can get Asian ingredients? Thanks! N. Seattle/Greenwood/Ballard area is best, but I can go further if needed.

2 AnswersOther - Sports1 decade agoAnyone know about University of Washington Master in Teaching admissions?
I'm trying to navigate the UW site, and there's a bunch of contrary information and 404'd links.
Can anyone tell me what's the story with the admission requirement of 60 hours of supervised adolescent teaching just to apply to the program? I can't begin to imagine how I'd get that experience prior to entering the program, short of quitting my job and becoming a TA. Is it standard to go into the M. Ed program instead if you have no teaching experience? And is the M. Ed program less desirable for landing a teaching job?
(History: I've got a BS in ChemE and a BA in molecular bio, I work in biotech research, and I'm wondering about the prospects of a career change).
Thanks
1 AnswerTeaching1 decade agoBest short weekend trip to BC?
My parents are visiting me in Seattle. We were looking to spend a night in Brittish Columbia. Does anyone have an opinion on whether Victoria or Vancouver is a better place to go? We're trying to keep on a reasonable budget, it's just one night. None of us have been to BC, except my sister on a ski trip.
Suggestions?
Thanks!
5 AnswersVancouver1 decade agoWhat does it take to teach Jr High/High School?
I'm going to be moving soon due to my lady's career requirements. Currently, I work in Biotech, and there isn't a lot outside the Bay Area. But I have two undergrad degrees in science (molecular biology and chemical engineering) and I always hear taht there are shortages for teachers in science and math.
Assuming I try to make that transition, what all is required? Is there any way for me to move right into teaching without some grad school first?
And answer particular to Washington state, Oregon, Minnesota, and Colorado are particularly appreciated.
Thank you.
6 AnswersTeaching1 decade agoAny chance of changing the policy on editing?
I wrote an answer to a question a year ago that asked "do blind people see dreams?" My answer was focused on the idea of "seeing" rather than dreaming. The misinterpretation has resulted in a great deal of confusion, and in the intervening year, the question wen to "best of" and now has close to 100 comments. Many of these comments are objections to a perceived assertion that I was saying blind people don't dream. I clarifyed my point in the comments section, but it seems like no one reads those. Now there are several dozen people thinking blind people can't dream, which is incorrect and which I never meant to assert.
Is there any way to change the original answer so people aren't being either mislead or distracted? I really wish this hadn't gone to Best Of, because as most people read it, it looks like I'm saying something very different from what I meant to say.
2 AnswersYahoo Answers1 decade agoHow do I actually get this @^#%#&!!! Hotfix?
I have a descrition of a Hotfix that clearly states that it addresses the problem I'm having with Access. However, there doesn't seem to be any clear way to ACTUALLY GET THE PATCH and fix my @$#%^$@%! machine. Can anyone help me actuallfix this problem, or am I stuck calling a service line that's going to charge me money to fix a problem they've already acknowledged?

^This is the fix that I need, and the information there doesn't seem to explain how to actually get the fix.
4 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoAbout how far is the drive from Boston to Cape Cod?
My gf is in Boston for the next couple months, and I'm going to be there in a few weeks to visit. I'm wondering how far the drive is from Boston to Cape Cod, in case I were to decide to get my hotel out of Boston. It seems like it'd be cool to get her out of the city for a day, and I'm wondering how Cape Cod works as a weekend getaway for two.
Thoughts? I also need to know about any relevant traffic and/or tolls. Thanks a bunch.
5 AnswersBoston1 decade agoView settings for Access 2003?
I'm designing a database in Access 2003, and the fields are teeny-tiny lil' things. I'm looking at the word "qualitative" and I can't tell if I've spelled it right or not unless I put my face 2 inches from the screen, because I'm stuck reading at about an 8 point font. Is there any way to increase the size of the font in the design window so I can see WTF I'm doing?
Thanks!

22 AnswersInternet2 decades agoWhat make of car do you think is most likely to have a jerk behind the wheel?
By make, I mean brand, rather than particular model. I have my own opinion, and I wonder if I'm alone. Please give your ideas, and then I'll make this into a poll (so there's no real point in putting anything someone already put, since it will just split the vote).
11 AnswersOther - Cars & Transportation2 decades agoQuestion about short story publication?
I've read that those who wish to get a book published should look to getting some short stories published to establish a publication history. Can anyone name an publiations that publish short stories, or sites that list such publications?
Has anyone here ever gotten a short story published? And if so, how did they go about it?
All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
2 AnswersBooks & Authors2 decades agoDoes anyone have any good ideas for establishing credibility among answerers?
I've heard one suggestion be that a user ID might display a person's best answers/total answers ratio. While this is a good start, I think it might over-state the quality for people who target questions with few answers at all. Some questions might have a dozen excellent answers, but only one person can be chosen.
Perhaps giving a weighted thumb-up/thumb-down ratio?
Likewise, people have their areas of expertise that should make their answers carry more weight, but only in the areas where they have special understanding.
I kind of wish there was a way for frequent users to identitfy those who give truly exceptional answers. Every now and again I see that a really great answer by someone with a solid track record (Calimecita, hound9_4, Nate Lipkowitz, Cautiously Optimistic, etc) get passed up for a completely wrong answer. I just wish there was a way to make a recommendation in voting if I don't see the question until after the voting started!
Any good ideas?
11 AnswersYahoo Answers2 decades agoHow can I address a concerted attack of abuse reporting against me?
All of the sudden I find 5 notices of abuse in my email, many from about a month ago, none of them had any foundation at all. Is there any appeal process for this kind of conserted attack? Is there any way to identify my attacker?
I've emailed in response, but historically these things don't get answered.
And if you hate me and are responsible for the assault, would you mind letting me know what I did to get you so ticked off at me?
5 AnswersYahoo Answers2 decades agoWhat is the purpose of the point system?
The Yahoo! Answers Team has said:
"In other words, while Level 4 "qualifies" you to be a featured user, it doesn't mean that writing great answers DOESN'T qualify you."
Is that to suggest that the Y!AT would be willing to select a person at the 4th level to be a featured user, even if they DON'T have a track record of quality answers? Are Featured Users at the 4th level and above chosen in a completely arbitrary fashion, while posters with fewer than 2,500 points are screened and held to higher standards?
5 AnswersYahoo Answers2 decades agoDo people in India spell color with a U?
I keep seeing "colour," "favour," and I have a hrd time believing that there are that many Britons posting on this site. So is it because a lot of Yahoo! users are in India, which, as a former colony, still uses the extra U not used by Americans? Do people in India pronounce "schedule" like "skedule" (as in America) or "shedule" (as in Britain)?

I mean, is it just assumed that Spell Check on MS Word makes spelling obsolete? Do students still have to do things like in-class essays written by hand?
