How do I write a quote over a photo?
I see many photos on FaceBook with text written over them. I want to do this. When people inquire how to place text over photos, I have read answers to the effect of "Just use ms paint". Well, I've looked at ms paint and I see no option to type text over a photo.
Please clearly explain how to type the text, select the font, font size, color, and placement on the photo. Or if there is a way to do this using ms WORD please explain.
Also, when I opened a photo in ms paint, it displayed much larger than the screen. How can I size it down so I can see what my finished product is going to look like?
Thanks.
2 AnswersDrawing & Illustration7 years agoCan I take away a MS from a publisher who requested it?
Last year, a publisher asked me to write a book on a particular subject. I have worked with this publisher before. Currently, they publish one of my books. They pay me what I believe is a very low royalty rate: 7%. After working on the book for a year, being pressured by them to finish the book, I submitted it. They responded by saying that the book was disorganized, confusing, over the head of the readers, and that I must accept re-writing the entire book with their editor or forget it. I wrote back and said I would accept working with an editor. However, they have not been in contact with me about the editor.
Do I have the right to pull the book? In other words, do I have the right to legally take possession of my book and publish it myself as an ebook? Do I have the right to force them to publish it because they asked me to write it? The bottom line is that I want it published, one way or the other. There was no contract drawn up about the book. I have long ago fulfilled my contract with this publishing company. They wrote two emails, a year ago, asking me if I would write this book, several emails discussing the cover art, and many emails from them asking when I was going to finish the book. I have received fabulous blurbs by very famous published authors about the book (one from such a famous author that I cannot imagine the book is as bad as the publisher has said it is). I cannot afford an attorney.
Please help.
Thanks.
1 AnswerBooks & Authors7 years agoWhich is the correct form: 1940s or 1940's when writing about the decade?
I have noticed that recently punctuation is disappearing. People seem to be dispensing with the apostrophe when writing about a decade. I was taught to use the apostrophe, but everywhere (even in prestigious websites) I am now seeing the decade written as: 1970s or 1930s, etc. I am writing a book and I want to use the correct spelling. Is 1940s correct or 1940's?
Also, I see the periods disappearing when using periods in dates that utilize abbreviations such as: Common Era, Before Common Era, and “anno Domini.” In other words, I see CE, BCE, and AD, when I was taught to write these as: C.E., B.C.E., and A.D. Period or no period, that is my second question.
Please provide references for your answers.
Thanks.
6 AnswersHistory7 years agoWhat are the best books on body language and face reading?
I've read several "basic" books on body language, but I've yet to find one that truly delves into the subject in a profound way. I know what it means when women fold their arms across their chest and cross their legs facing away from you. I know what it means when a woman's pupils dilate as she is talking to you, and she starts playing with her hair. But I want to learn about both women's and men's body language, in a book that isn't academic and hard to read, but nevertheless explains in great detail the complex language of the body. I know 80% of our communication is unconscious and I would like to understand what messages I'm giving out and what message others are sending me through their body language. I would like to know when someone is lying, when they are frightened, when they are about to become violent, when they are romantically inclined, when they are confused, when they are hiding something, and so on. I know I will have to do a lot of work to master this, but I would truly like to master the art of understanding body language. Please can you point me to a book that will give me a good solid start? I loved the show "LIE TO ME". I want to know more about *Interpreting Microexpressions*, through the *Facial Action Coding System*, and *Body Language*. The show was inspired by the work of Paul Ekman, the world's foremost expert on facial expressions. Are his books worth reading? Like I said, I don't want anything too academic . . . serious material, but able to be understood by the average person. And not just the face, but the whole body. Thanks.
2 AnswersPsychology7 years agoHow do I remove returns from my Word Document and replace them with page breaks?
I'm an author of two published books. About 8 months ago I was commissioned to write a new book by my publisher. The book is almost finished. In order to format the book so that the chapters, and special sections, will start at the beginning of certain pages, I used the return key to "push" the text onto the next page. Yesterday, someone told me that I must use "page breaks" to do this.
When I re-open my book file for editing, the formatting is a mess, and the chapters are either starting in the middle of the page, or moving backwards. In other words, they are not staying in place.
Is there any way to "lock" the pages so that the chapters begin exactly where I want them to? Or do I have to go back and delete all the "returns"? If I delete all my "returns", I will have to work hundreds of more hours on formatting.
Can I select which "returns" I want to delete? For example, normally I don't use more than 1 or 2 "returns" in all the book - except for where I pushed the entire chapter onto a new page. What is the command to select which "returns" I want to delete? And then after I do that, what is the correct command for a "page break"?
After spending 8 months of writing, sometimes for 13 hours a day, I don't want to be bogged down by endless hours of re-formatting. Please step me through the process that can most easily and quickly fix my book, to remove the excess "returns" and to insert the proper "page breaks".
Thanks. Please only reply if you are an expert user of Microsoft Word.
1 AnswerSoftware7 years agoWho is the best TV Service Provider for U.S. Expats living in Mexico?
I am currently staying in Mexico and I would like to watch CNN. They offer a selection of "TV Service Providers".
What's a good TV Service Provider that is not expensive, and offers good news coverage from the USA, as well as sports if possible (I miss watching football)?
The cable stations here offer a lot of U.S. sitcoms with Spanish subtitles, but no U.S. news programs, nor good weather stations.
Do these stations stream live onto my computer, or do I need to invest in additional equipment?
Thanks.
6 AnswersOther - Mexico8 years agoIn a book should the author refer to himself as 'the author' or as 'I'?
What is the correct contemporary style with regards to writing about oneself in a nonfiction book? I have been commissioned to write a book. The book is not an academic book. Frequently, I speak about myself in the book. In the past, I have read the author refer to himself as "the author", but lately I have been noticing that authors are using the more personal first person singular pronoun "I". I am considered an authority in my field and this will be my third published book. Please back up your answers with substantial qualifications or authorities on the subject. Thanks.
3 AnswersBooks & Authors8 years agoWhere can I find an artist willing to work for exposure?
I need an illustrator for a new book I am writing. The publisher is well known in this genre. The subject of the book is the occult, metaphysics, UFOs, and the paranormal. The publisher says I can have illustrations if I find an illustrator who is willing to work for the international exposure he or she will receive for illustrating the book. I don't have the time to go around art schools putting up flyers. Are there any websites for artists looking to get a start in the business? All serious suggestions are appreciated and welcome.
3 AnswersDrawing & Illustration8 years agoWhat are the quotes at the beginning and end of the 1945 film "Picture of Dorian Gray"?
There is a quote that appears at the beginning, and maybe the same quote or another that appears at the end, of the 1945 Angela Lansbury version of 'Picture of Dorian Gray". I cannot find it the IMDb movie quote site, I don't think it is from Oscar Wilde. If you have the DVD or VHS of the movie you can easily find it. Thanks. I appreciate your help.
2 AnswersMovies8 years agoCan I lengthen the display of each photo in Windows Movie Maker?
I have a very long music composition that I want to accompany with photos. The music last about 3 hours and 45 minutes. I have about 200 photos, but still I don't have enough photos to match the length of the music. Is there a way to lengthen the display of each photo in Windows Movie Maker, without having to adjust each photo individually?
1 AnswerMovies8 years agoShould a 60 year old man dye his hair and beard?
I just got out of a long marriage. My wife told me not to dye my beard and hair because she said it made me look like I was trying too hard to be young. I think maybe she just didn't want other women looking at me. What do you think? Will I look phony? Or will I look distinguished? I've read statistics that many more women notice a man with color in his hair than they notice gray headed men.
7 AnswersHair8 years agoIs there a poor man's way to check and ground outlets?
I am not sure that my landlord has grounded the outlets in the apartment building. Is there an inexpensive way to determine if my outlets are grounded? I cannot afford to hire the electricians and the items needed to professionally ground the outlets, and the landlord certainly isn't going to ground the outlets. I have heard something about connecting a wire to the cold water pipe to ground the outlet. We get massive electrical storms here and if there is anyway to ground my outlets, please let me know exactly what kind of wires I need and how to do this.
5 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs9 years agoWhich is plugged into the outlet, the UPS (uninterruptable power source) or the Surge Protector?
Which unit do I plug into the outlet, the UPS or the Surge Protector? I live in a small Mexican town with terrible electrical problems - brown outs every night, and many people lose phones, modems, etc., during electrical storms, for example. Those who can afford it, purchase a UPS and a Surge Protector that they connect to each other. They will connect the units to the outlet, in sequence. I am not an electrician, and it seems to me that both units are designed to protect against voltage variations. So, please tell me the order of how I should connect these units. Which should be plugged into the outlet, and then which unit should be plugged into the first? Thanks.

1 AnswerReality Television9 years agoWhat cables do I need to connect my Dell Vostro 1520 to a Canon Projector?
I am doing my first presentation using a laptop and a Canon projector. What specific type of Cable do I need to connect my Dell Vostro 1520 to a Canon projector? Do Canon projectors usually come with the cable, or should I purchase one prior to my presentation? I am also showing a movie from my laptop and so I need audio, too. For "Audio": can I connect my laptop's "Audio Out" port directly to my Dell Sound System, or must I first connect a cable from my laptop's "Audio Out" port to the Canon? Finally, how do I "Sync" the Dell Vostro 1520 with the Canon projector? The more information you can provide me, the better. I am a complete newbie with this, and I need your help. Thanks.

3 AnswersOther - Arts & Humanities9 years agoDoes my wife have a mental illness because she is extremely paranoid?
During our three-year marriage, my wife has always been wildly jealous. In the last few months, this has seriously worsened to what I can only call extreme paranoia. She is now accusing me of being bisexual and inviting strangers (women and men) into our apartment, while she is at work, to have sex. She says I have been cheating on her since before we were married, during our marriage, and she says I will continue to cheat in the future. She is also accusing me of stealing small things from her, like an incense holder, a pen, etc. She has begun to lock all her belongings up in her closet. She says these strangers can steal her computer, so she is also locking up her computer in her closet. She has five locks on the door, and she has accused me of trying to confuse her by unlocking some of the locks and locking others. She has driven her car at me several times, and I have had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit. She is also accusing me of taking a memento that she says belongs to her, which I bought while on vacation before we met. Is this paranoia a real mental illness? I have always been faithful to her. She almost always knows where I am. Her verbal abuse has also seriously worsened. Recently, she said to me, “You really want to be a woman.” I think the truth is that she does not want to be a woman. She is very controlling and dominant, and not very feminine. Where do mental health professionals draw the line between extreme jealousy, and the beginnings of some kind of mental illness? What is this kind of paranoia technically called by psychiatrists? Is she what they call "delusional"? Please give me some information and resources to better understand what is happening to her. Thanks.
2 AnswersMental Health9 years agoAre there any treatments that will save my cat's life?
I don't know what to do. I'm down here in Mexico and my cat is very ill. For almost a year now the veterinarians have been telling me she has an ear infection and prescribing antibiotics for her. She is bleeding from her ear, she has lost a lot of weight, does not want to drink water, has a strange look in her eye, always wants to lay on something very hot, and a terrible smell coming from the ear. Finally, I took her to the best veterinarian in Mexico City and he said that she has cancer. I have tried my best to translate his test results for you. Will surgery, radiation or chemo help her? Or are there other alternative treatments you suggest? Thank you for your advice. Dx: Biopsy. Mass in middle ear canal. Comments: A high-grade malignant lesion metastasizes to regional and distant lymph nodes, there are stem cells on the edges of tissue sent for study so it recommended close patient monitoring. Histopathological examination. Tissue sections were reviewed where you can see the proliferation of polyhedral cells with eosinophilic cytoplasm, polygonal, pleomorphic nuclei with hyperchromasia of prominent nucleoli and atypical mitosis besides, these cells are arranged in clusters and are supported by a thin stroma of fibrous connective tissue, so the same areas observed proliferation of polyhedral cells with eosinophilic cytoplasm moderate keratohyalin granules.

2 AnswersSoftware10 years agoHow do I remove a loud hum from a (.wmv) file?
I just recorded an interview using Debut Video Capture Software and a store bought mic. The mic is not very good and produced a loud low frequency hum throughout the video. Is there a way to edit a (.wmv) file and clean up the audio, that is not expensive? I tried putting the (.wmv) files through Audacity, and I was able to clean up the hum. I opened up Windows Live Movie Maker. I loaded the (.wmv) file, and then loaded the mp3 file from Audacity. Unfortunately, Windows Live Movie Maker plays the original audio with the hum, along with the mp3 Audacity file. So, the hum was still very audible. Is there any free software that would allow me to easily clean up the (.wmv) file and remove the low hum?
