11 years... too much of a gap?
I know it won't be down the road, but right now I'm 25 and he's 36. Is there even a chance he's interested, or am I too young for him?
9 AnswersSingles & Dating1 decade agoWhy is the 2004 movie called Ladies in Lavender?
After watching the movie, we have no idea why it's titled that way. The ladies never once wear lavender, Lavender is NOT the name of a town in Cornwall (at least not recognized by any mapping website) and there's no fields of lavender displayed prominently in the movie. Can you help our insatiable curiosity??
5 AnswersMovies1 decade agoHow do you deal (emotionally) with failing students?
I'm a first-year math teacher who's finding it very hard to actually fail a student. On some levels, I can say, "You haven't followed my directions, you don't listen in class, you don't do your homework, you won't accept my offers of extra help..." whatever it happens to be. But at the same time, I feel responsible. It's like *I've* failed them.
My administration is very supportive, and most days I really do feel like I've done my best with these kids, but fundamentally, I have a few kids who shouldn't have been passed into my class because they don't have mastery of the basic skills they need to do well, and are now struggling to pull out a passing grade.
Any advice from veteran teachers on this one? How can I know if I've truly done my best to help this kids?
7 AnswersTeaching2 decades agoWhere can I buy copies of Square One TV (PBS) episodes?
It's been off the air for a while... but I'd really like to show it to my students at the end of this school year. Ebay and amazon have yeilded little or nothing.
4 AnswersMathematics2 decades agoHow can I motivate low-achieving students?
I teach middle school math and Algebra 1 and a large number of my students are "math phobic" or have all but given up on my class. When I'm able to work with them 1 on 1, they generally "get it" and are able to make connections, but tend to tune out during class, give up easily on homework and then fail quizzes and tests. This makes them more discouraged and then they are even more prone to give up...
Any suggestions or experiences that might give me more ideas of how to reach these kids? In a few of my sections, half the class is in, or at least close to what I've described, while the other half is working hard and acheiving at an A or B level.

I'm planning a road trip this summer and was disappointed to find out that I-70 ends in Utah... Is there another road that will take me from Atlantic to Pacific?
