  • Eugene the Jeep, theme tune?

Cast your mind back to the old Popeye cartoons... he had an odd pet, "Eugene the Jeep", and Eugene had his own musical riff, a short little piece that was his musical signature.

Anyone know what that was called, if it even had a name... and whether an audio clip of it can be got, from anywhere?

Long story, but I want make a ring-tone out of it :-)

  • Legal to wear a Scots kilt knife in Florida?

I will shortly be attending a formal event in full Highland attire.. which, by tradition, includes a small knife, worn in the top of one of the knee-socks associated with the kilt.

It's not concealed - in fact, the whole point is that it's discourteous to carry a concealed weapon in polite company, so you take it from your sleeve and stick it in your sock, where all can see it.

My concern is that I'm not familiar with weapons laws here in Florida - does anyone know if I'm allowed to carry a knife in this fashion in a public place in Florida?

It's a small, 3" fixed blade, in a sheath, if that makes a difference.

    Any tips, anyone?

  • Get fit, as opposed to keep fit .. gym membership a good idea?

OK, I'm 58-year old diabetic with high blood pressure, i need to lose about 30 pounds and I want to be generally fit. Is a gym membershipo a good idea? They all seem to be full of muscled, healthy, tanned people who are just working to stay that way.

What about the people who would like to be like that, but have a very long way to go? Any clubs like Lifestyles that have a back-door programme for the seriously non-healthy?

  • "simple" divorce in Florida, paperwork question?

Your Open QuestionShow me another »

    Question on self-filing divorce docs.?

I'm drawing up the papers for "simple dissolution of marriage" in Florida... there are two "financial affidavits"- basically His and Hers. in the section where you have to list your assets, do I have to list hers, as well as mine, on my affidavit, checking the "husband" or "wife" box next to each... or do I just list my assets on my affidavit, and hers on hers?

    Anyone else been this route?

Tips appreciated... this is expensive enough already without hiring an attorney to fill in a few forms

  • Why do Pacific storms and hurricanes never cross into the Gulf of Mexico?

...after all, there's only a very thin strip of land joing the two (the isthmus of Panama?), and tropical storms often cross land and regain strength once they reach water again.

    Or do they,and I missed it? :-)

  • cable box outputs suitable for flat-screen monitor?

I know this has been asked before, but the replies seem contradictory, so let me try again.

I have a cable box from Comcast, with all kinds of outputs, including component (RCA) video and s-video.

I also have a flat-panel monitor - not a TV, a plain old digital monitor... wwhich seems to have S-video, at least...

Can I hook the cable box outputs to the monitor, independent of any computer - and expect it to display video from the cable box?

I'd really like to be able to do that, as opposed to paying out another $500 for a flat-panel TV which has all kind of facilities that I may not need...Anyone else been this route?

    Any tips much appreciated....

  • Downloads for old Win95 games??

An odd question... I have a friend whose very old Win95 machine is missing its games.. Solitaire, Freecell, all that... and so is her "home-made" system disk, so I can't simply install them from there (somebody "customised" it, at some point in the past)

So, the question is, can I grab copies of the original games offline somewhere?

  • Dell recovery disks - how can I get some?

My teenager has a second-hand Dell Insprion notebook... various people have fooled around with it and left it in a sorry state.

I would like to restore it to factory defaults and start over, but there are no recovery disks with it.

The last time I tried to do get disks from Dell, they wouldn't even talk to me if I wasn't the original purchaser (it was for a customer)... so... anyone else been here? How do I get a set of disks to rebuld my kid's machine and get her off my back ? :-)

  • IPAQ wifi connection problems at certain sites only?

I have an HP hx2495 IPAQ hand-held... if I go to a truly open hotspot (Starbucks, for instance), I can connect with no problem, using the default mini-Internet Explorer.

If I go to a site that uses any kind of "token" - to check that you paid, or read the rules (Mc Donalds, Staples for example), I just get bounced back to the sign-in page, over and over.

I was recommended to use "Minimo" - mozilla for mobiles - and it will connect, but the product itself is unstable and a monstrous PITA to use.

Why can't I use what came in the box? What am I missing here?Any clues would be much appreciated

  • Driver for Sony CD drive???

I've just installed a Sony CRX230AE CD drive in a customer system.... but the OS (XP SP2) doesn't recognise it and doesn't seem to have drivers available (It's an EMachine - I think I've had problems with them before)

All I can find on the Sony site is links to Bus Mastering Drivers, which isn't really what I need.

Anyone got any tips or pointers?

  • "Fake copy of XP" message?

I have three computers, which are pretty much in step as far as updates, security, etc, are concerned, Two of them have recently started showing a pop-up warning at startup, telling me that I don't have a genuine copy of XP,,, which is odd, because it's the OEM version which came on the computer "out of the box".

Anybody know what might cause this?

Better yet, how do I stop it ? :-)

  • "Flushing 'the system" after heavy drinking...?

I'm dealing with somebody who has been on a 4-day binge. Now that she's stopped, and reached the, "Oh my God, I did WHAT??", stage, I want to help her to get her system straight as soon as possible...

She's not hung over, as such, though she very much deserves to be... but I want to help her get all the accumulated toxins out of her system, and would welcome any suggestions...

She's already chugging lots of fresh water... I've heard that cranberry juice is a good de-tox... what else?

Vitamin E has been suggested too.

Keep in mind that it's early Saturday evening, a lot of the stores are closed, so it's got to be available at a regular grocery store...

  • Covert traffic monitoring...?

I have a small business customer who believes that one of his staff is communicating business information to others. Is there a (relatively) simple way that I can help him to monitor traffic from a particular machine on his LAN.

Just a small LAN and a router, nothing handly like a local server...

    Any help would be appreciated

  • Simple Wifi Hotspot, local area only?

I have a requirement to set up a simple, local, hotspot, mainly to provide a testbed and information source, so I just need to serve a few local pages, welcoming users, giving some information, etc. No onward access to the net, no billing, no user control.

To acehive this, I have a budget of about 50c, a spare PC (running XP, not able to change), a wireless router/access point and a lot of patience.

Has anyone been down this road before? Any hints/ tips? Or ready-made solutions :-)
