  • Open Medicare to all ages vs. Universal Healthcare?

I do not know what I am missing but why would the government create Universal Healthcare when the government could open Medicare to all ages? People will still be accountable for a % of their healthcare and still everyone would be accepted for a premium. And, this would solidify Medicare for the 65+ community. The health insurance companies should love this because a supplemental plan could be offered to people under 65. Not to mention it is already established and much cheaper to administer vs. universal healthcare.

I think I would rather have that than taxing the American people on a 50% tax base. That is what it is in Europe. The people taking the Medicare plan would have the premiums deducted from their payroll checks...just like we do right now for the 65+ or a bill sent to the self employed. Most of the people that are poor get Medicaid anyway...what is the difference?

And, if you want to see what Universal Healthcare will be like, take a look at Medicaid. HMOs that are offered where only crappy doctors take the insurance. The good doctors will not elect to be part of Universal Healthcare and privatize their practices. How does that help everyone? Again only the rich will have access to quality healthcare. And...we will pay in taxes a premium for that crap.

I have a friend that lives in Europe and has told me the restraints put on their access to healthcare. He purchased supplemental insurance to pick up where the insurance fell short. His son had a cleft lip when he was born. Under the Universal Healthcare plan, his son would have had surgery at 5 years old. This would have screwed up his teeth which would mean very expensive dental bills. Since he had a supplemental policy, his son was allowed to have the surgery at 2 years old with minimal impact on his dental health.

What do you think and why would you chose one or the other? There must be a reason why the government is not chosing the Medicare route because I think it is pretty obvious. But, maybe I am missing a very important point and this is why I am coming to you. Tell me what you think..

  • Was I being a rude person?

I went to the grocery store tonight to buy food for the week. I went to the checkout and picked a lane where you can have more than 10 items. While I was putting my things on the conveyor, this woman comes into the lane the wrong way with a bag of ice. She pushed me right into the conveyor. She plops the ice down on the conveyor before I finished putting my stuff down. I said something about you can't wait until I put all my things down on the conveyor. She starts pulling things out of my cart and putting them on the conveyor. I looked at her and told her what she was doing is rude. You can't wait 2 minutes for me to put all of the things I want to buy on the conveyor. I also reminded her that there is an express lane for 10 items or less. She starts yelling at me and telling me how rude and crazy I am.

I am under the impression that she did not like me because she wanted to purchase her bag of ice and be on her way. I had already started my transaction when she came through the lane the wrong way. She decided to do everything in her power to get her way and to make me look bad.

Then, she starts saying mean things about my size and how I am a loser and insane. I explained to her that it is not a matter of how big someone is but how smart you are. And, her behavior proves that she is not that smart.

Why do people have to be that way? Why can't people let others live their lives in peace? This woman had a choice...why didn't she chose something else?

Was I rude to call her out on it? I am just so tired of people not allowing other people to live their lives in peace. Why can't people leave you alone?

  • Why do people have to be so cruel?

I remember as a kid being told that when I grew up people would stop picking on other people. Boy, was I wrong. My mother and I both have weight issues. My mother walks with a walker and is in her mid-70s. I have breast cancer and have finished my treatments. My hair is growing back and I spike it. The hormone therapy I am taking is not helping with my weight loss but I am watching my weight.

I was in a Walgreens store tonight and made a purchase. As I was leaving, a man made a comment about my mother and I and everyone including the cashier laughed. Why? I did not do anything to anyone. I was not even mean to anyone.

Why is it that people cannot be adults and accept others as they are? Do I have to continue living around 40 year old adolescents? Or, is this what America has come to? People picking on other people because of appearance.

I know, it is silly to worry about it but this guy really hurt my feelings. I am just tired of people bothering me. I just want to be left alone. I never pick on anyone else.

  • How do you feel about the government restricting your access to the US Capitol Building?

The capitol building was originally the place where the American people had access to the government. The ability to go and visit your congressional members on appointment, of course, is part of the inter-workings of our government. And, this can still be done today in spite of the visitor center. But, a person has to pass clearance at the visitor center before he/she can meet with his congressperson or senator.

With the building of a visitor center, do you feel that a barrier has been created between the average American and its government?

How do you feel about that? And, how do you feel about the comments from Harry Reid about the stinky tourists visiting the Capitol Building in the summer time? Do you feel that the US government truly reflects what the forefathers wanted? Do you feel that the congressional members feel they are better than us?

Thanks. I am just curious to see what people have to say. This is not intended to be a partisan question. I will let the people chose the best answer for this one. I feel that is truly fair and keeps my partisan opinion out of it. But, I will vote with everyone else for the best answer when the time expires.

  • I truly dislike rude and obnoxious people. How do you deal with people like this?

I have always had issues with people that are rude and obnoxious. I have to learn how to keep my mouth shut when I see something that is not right. Everytime I see someone being mean, rude, or obnoxious, I say something. One day, I will be shot or something like that. Who else is like that here? And, what have you done to keep yourself calm through it? And, what do you do to keep yourself in check and keep yourself from saying something?

    Thanks for your help.

  • Can you tell me why people are so insensitive today?

I have cancer and the chemo drugs I took a few months ago makes it hard for me to walk really fast. Today, I tried to cross a driveway to a hotel in Florida and some woman in her mid-50s tried to hit me with her car. She was inches from hitting the back of my legs. Instead of apologizing, she gives me the finger. It seems that people have become nastier in the past 2 to 3 years. Can you tell me why? And, what do you suggest I do if this situation arises again? I know that I should forget it but I have had problems with a lot of people treating me poorly since I got sick. I just want to understand why...

  • Who believes that we should vote for "None of the Above"?

How many people here remember the movie Brewster's Millions? This year we will be voting for a new president and the major parties offer Obama and McCain. How many people truly feel they are the best candidates? Or, should we vote for "None of the Above"?

  • My microwave died and I need to buy a new one. What do you recommend?

I have not purchased a microwave oven for over 10 years. I originally had a GE. Now, I don't know what to buy. What do you recommend? I was thinking of a Panasonic but I am open to everyone's comments.

  • Is anyone sick of the "Conservatives" in the Republican Party attacking McCain?

We have been watching this for the past 3 to 4 months. Tom Delay, Mr. being investigated for questionable actions, was on TV this morning bashing McCain because he is not "Conservative" enough.. Can someone explain why the "Conservatives" DON"T like McCain? Do you feel that the maybe the Democrats are right that these Conservatives are like the "Nazis"? Not the Republican party as a whole but just this part of it. Do you feel betrayed as a Republican? And, why is it that James Dobson is willing to endorse a Morman before McCain?

Give me your thoughts...I just want to understand why. I guess you could say that I am a Moderate to Liberal Repulbican...if there can be such a thing. I am almost ready to become an independent because of this stupid stuff. And, I am a Christian. What part of having mercy on immigrants is not Christian? I thought that the Christian faith is based on MERCY!

  • Why can't Atheists be more tolerant of other religions?

Let's take inventory on what is being disallowed by Atheists...

    1) No crosses on the graves of Christians

    2) No Bibles allowed in a courthouse...personal or government.

    3) A Jewish judge's 10 commandments plaque banned from chambers.

    4) Refusing to allow Muslim children to say their prayers at school.

    5) No religious clubs on school grounds...Jewish, Christian, or Muslim a like

The last time I checked, the 1st Amendment is in effect which states there is to be no ESTABLISHED religion including Atheism and that each individual has the right to exercise his religion as he sees fit. So, my questions...

How many people feel that their 1st Amendment rights have been violated by the Atheists?

Who has been shown intolerance by an Atheist? How?

Have you ever been suspended from school for saying a prayer or reading the Bible to yourself?

Why is it that the Atheists, who scream that everyone shows intolerance to them are more intolerant to the people than any Christian?

    Thanks..

  • What happens when the company cannot make payroll?

I am currently working for a company that is having a hard time paying me. I don't know how I will pay my bills and I have excellent credit. The owners of my company have terrible credit and I guess they want to bring me down with them.

I know I need to find a new job but that will take time. What should I do in the meantime? Could I go down to the Unemployment office to collect? What happens if they will be able to pay me in 2 weeks?

Also, I how would I address what happened with a potential employer during an interview? I have heard that it is not a good idea to tell the future employer that the reason why you are leaving is because you are not being paid. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • Who feels that the opening of the Khalil Gibran International Academy is a violation between church & state?

I just read about this school this morning and I am truly disturbed. Why is it that the Muslims get a religious school paid by federal, state, and local taxes when the Christians are told that is not allowed? Is this country becoming a Muslim state now? What about a Hebrew school paid by federal, state, and local taxes? I guess that would be in violation of the separation of church and state, as well?

  • When should I get out now or later?

I just took this job in May 2007. According to the recruiter, the company at that time was stable and had one very large customer. Now, the very large customer is bailing out and we have a few very small companies and I am worried about the future as in bankruptcy or even being in existance.

I had taken a few 1 year jobs while I was finishing school and it makes it look like I am a job hopper. I was told by another recruiter that if I left a company one more time with 1 year of experience that I would be blackballed from the market.

What should I do? I guess my career is through and I cannot do anything to stop it. Would it be OK to look for new work at this time? Or, should I wait until I get laid off? What happens if I do not get laid off and they cannot pay me? How am I suppose to survive?

Let me know what you think.

  • Are corporations making more money on sales of product and services or acquisitions?

How many people here feel that something is wrong with the corporate structure in the US? Before the 70s, most organizations made good money on the products and services they sold. During the 70s, there were the conglomerates and now it is just one acquisition or another.

I don't know about you but I have seen my salary decrease in terms of buying power. The products I am purchasing are from other countries and are of poor quality. Have you truly been in a store lately where the clerk treated you like you were the customer vs. making you feel like you are lucky she is there? Sure, the US Corporations are taking a % of the profits from these sales but truly is it enough to keep the company a float? Or, are corporations using mergers & acquisitions to inflate their financial statements to make their activities look better than they really are?

  • When is the medical industry going to use genetic testing to diagnose illnesses?

Traditional medicine is just so inferior compared to genetic testing. There have been so many times that certain medical events have happened to me that I believe are genetically related that the doctor says are not. I don't believe them and I hope that genetic testing comes into the picture so I can say to them, "I told you so, moron!" I find that doctors never listen to the patient anyway...maybe the DNA will finally be the key ingredient that makes the doctor listen.

  • Do you like or hate your job?

Is it because of the people or the work?

Do you feel that politics in the office is a positive or negative thing?

How do you feel about people that play into the politics if you are not a participant?

If you are the boss or business owner, what problems do you encounter?

What are some things that you do to mininize the stress at work? If you like your work, are there times you do feel stressed? When? And, what do you do to feel better during those times?

Do you feel that talking about events at work helps to reduce the stress at work for you, personally, or do you think it makes work worse for you?

Do you keep anything on your desk to make you feel better while working like a plant, mug, etc?

FYI, this is for a term paper; Thank you for your input.

  • What happens if you are asked to do something questionable at work?

I am working at a CPA firm and so far I have been asked to sign tax returns I have not prepared or reviewed. And, I have to track down money on an invoice that technically the partner should be doing. I work as a staff accountant.

Is it time to find a new job? Or, am I over-reacting? I cannot exactly leave in the middle of tax season, right?

  • Which Degree in Computers?

I am experienced in computers but do not have the certs, etc and want to get a college degree in it. Which degree is best...the computer science degree from the science department or the Information Technology degree from the business department? I currently have an Accounting degree and would be finished with the IT degree much faster than the Computer Science degree but my goal is to go with the degree that is most respected.

    Thanks.

  • Instead of trading Eli Manning, maybe the Giants should fire Kevin Gilbride?

I have seen this happen at least 3 times before but I believe he has been in other places that I cannot remember at this time...but Kevin Gilbride, the quarterback coach, is the problem in NY and NOT Eli Manning. Kevin Gilbride put the Houston Oilers organization, now the Tennessee Titans organization's offense into the ground and ruined Kordell Stewart's career at Pittsburgh. What about his stint at the San Diego Chargers? In 1997, he had 4 wins and 12 losses as head coach. Now, he is trying to destroy Eli Manning's career.

I remember watching Eli Manning play at Ole Miss...he is not the same quarterback. He has the talent. He just needs the appropriate coach to develop that talent.

  • A person was tailgating me in the right lane...?

To get rid of the person, I moved into the left lane to let them by. Then, at the stop sign they start making gestures back at me like I did something wrong. Of course, I said something out of my window that you were tailgating me and I pulled over to the left to let you go. Now, you have a problem with me? Then, he got into the left lane, I passed him and he took a picture of my license tag. What does that mean? Should I take this to the authorities?
