  • I want to send chocolate candy overseas. Does anyone have tips for shipping that will keep it from melting?

I realize that waiting till winter might be best, but I will appreciate any tips on packaging and even specific couriers.

  • What are your favorite things to bake in your convection oven?

I've had it for nearly a year now and I've only really used it for a couple of things. Help me out here! Dish up the recipes! :-)

  • Best tofu for this recipe?

On a brunch buffet, I picked up some little cubes that I thought was some sort of smoked cheese. Turned out to be tofu in a sweet glaze. I think I found a recipe for it, fried with a maple syrup glaze, but what's the best tofu to use? The one I had was fairly firm, but still had a really CREAMY texture. I have NO experience with tofu, but I'd like to make this recipe.

  • Black bean soup like Morton's of Chicago?

I just love Morton's black bean soup! Don't get it too often because you have to take out a LOAN to eat there, but it is just sooo good.

It's pureed and it's highly seasoned. Does anyone have a recipe that's similar?

Please don't point me to black bean soup recipes. I can do that myself. I'm wanting something like this particular soup. Can anyone help? Copycat recipe anyone?

    Thanks!

  • Recommend a nice, creepy horror novel for me?

I'm in the mood for a new horror novel. I like fantasy/horror. My very favorite horror novel of all time is Swan Song, by Robert McCammon. Other faves are The Talisman and The Shining.

I hate Anne Rice. She bores the snot out of me. Too 'gothic', and I don't care for monster stories. I want a spooky, spine-tingler!

I've never read any John Connolly, is he good?

    What are your faves?

  • Settle a weather argument for me? Wind chill (sort of) question..?

I have a friend who has a BROTHER that is a meteorologist, so he thinks he's a meteorologist, too. Last weekend, I left his Super Bowl party and it was COLD. My truck has an outside thermometer built in and it showed a temp of 6°F. I got home and called him to let him know we got home ok & he told me the temp was 11°. I told him our truck showed 6. He says that's because the WIND VELOCITY made it colder. Now....I know about wind chill, and it shouldn't affect my truck's thermometer. At least, that's what I think. Anyone know for sure? Can you point me to a website that I can reference? I've looked, but can't seem to find anything.

Why, or why not? Does it affect your day, one way or another?

  • How can I learn to appreciate wine more?

I just don't like it much and I like to consider myself somewhat of a 'foodie'. I love champagne, but I just can't seem to get a taste for really 'dry' table wines. I travel quite a lot and am constantly being presented with decent, regional wines. Why don't I like them? Are there some wine/food pairings that you can recommend that might make me change my mind? Is it even possible?

  • Recipes that use lots of Ketchup (or Catsup)?

Well over a year ago, my hubby came home from the grocery, proudly holding out a 64 oz. bottle of Heinz Ketchup that he got on "a great sale!" I've been living with this monstrosity in my fridge ever since. I know it's not that expensive, but I've been stubbornly determined not to waste it. It's holding my refrigerator hostage. Help me.

Anybody got GOOD recipes that use a lot of ketchup? I'd prefer some that you've actually tried, if possible.

  • Best way to remove lime deposits from laundry valves?

I'm asking for trouble and I know it. If one of the hoses burst....

My hot & cold faucets for my washing machine are completely frozen open with lime deposits (mainly) and that green stuff that seems to accumulate on copper pipes due to moisture, maybe? Can anyone recommend a great product for cleaning it off without damage, or do I need to completely replace them?

  • When should I use my convection oven?

I just got a new range and it has a convection/conventional oven.

I've always wanted a convection oven, but I'm really a little unsure WHEN to use it? What foods? I know it's great for things like cookies, cakes, and turkeys, but what else? Suppose I'm baking a potato, for instance: Conventional or Convection? Guide me, oh wise ones....

  • What if you gave someone a lottery ticket for Christmas....?

and they WON!? Something big, like the Powerball. How would you REALLY FEEL?

    Here's the BIG CATCH:

It's not a relative or close friend. Imagine you gave the ticket to a co-worker or a neighbor.

  • How can I stop my credit card companies.....?

from calling me with promotional offers? I'm on the DO NOT CALL registry, so I don't receive other telemarketing calls, but I still get my own CC companies calling all the damn time with some 'wonderful service' they have to offer. I try not answering, but they'll call EVERY DAY till I finally give up, answer, and say NO.

Can I get them to stop? If so, what hoops do I have to jump through?

  • Watching my satellite tv on my laptop?

I've googled and googled and I still don't understand tv tuner cards. I have a media center 2005 notebook and I have Dish Network satellite with all the channels in my home. I'm hooked up on a wireless dsl connection to the internet (not that my internet has anything to do with this, but thought I'd mention it)

Is there a tv tuner card out there, and possibly other needed hardware/software that will enable me to watch my satellite tv on my laptop? Can I watch the encrypted channels that I pay for? Can I watch a different channel than the one being watched on the tv, with maybe a dual tuner card? All wirelessly, of course.

I'm not trying to get anything FREE. I'm only interested in watching the sat tv that I pay for and in watching it in my own home, like maybe the backyard, for example, and/or watching a different station than my husband.

Can someone explain the possiblilites/limitations of tv tuner cards or point me to a link that will explain all of this?
