How unusual is it for a cat to switch homes?
My neighbor's cat seems to have picked me and my house over his owners. His owners are a family across the street with husband, wife, a young kid, 2 other cats and a dog. They leave this cat outdoors most of the time and for a long time he has been coming over to my house looking for attention.
About 6 months ago my previous cat passed away and this cat started coming over more and more. Fast forward 6 months and he pretty much lives with me. The funny thing is, I let him outdoors whenever he wants and he hangs out in my front yard where his previous residence is right across the street. And yet I've never seen these neighbors come out and call to him to come home.
I talked to the wife about how much I enjoy having her cat spend time with me and she said that was fine and referred to the cat as a free spirit. She is also fine with me feeding him. I'm ready to make it official and ask her if I can have him.
Is is unusual for a cat to switch homes like this? I've adopted strays before, but I've never had a well fed cat that lived across the street just move over like this. Her other 2 cats seem fine where they are.
One reason he might like me better is because I'm single and I don't have any other pets, so he gets a lot of attention from me.

25 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow does religion inspire good people to do evil things?
"Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it, you'd have good people doing good things and evil people doing bad things, but for good people to do bad things, it takes religion."

18 AnswersReligion & Spirituality2 decades agoWhy do people mistakenly think the beauty of nature is evidence of Jehovah?
It makes just as much sense to say that Mother Nature, or the Tao, or The Force, or Gaia is the guiding principle of Nature.
You can revere, appreciate, and be in absolute awe of Nature without ever having cracked open a bible, without ever having heard of Jehovah or Jesus.
Is this not obvious from the study of history and other cultures?

3 AnswersReligion & Spirituality2 decades agoIs the bible a good plan?
The vast majority of human beings who have ever lived have not had a copy of the bible, or the necessary education to make sense of it even if they did have a copy. Widespread literacy, and widespread availability of books, is a relatively recent development in the millions of years of human evolution.
Yet so called bible-based religious folks would have us believe that the bible is Gods revelation of Him Self to us and that you can't have a relationship with God if you don't read and believe the bible.
Is this is the best plan the creator of the universe could come up? Give folks a book to read? A book that thousands of generations of humans have never had a copy of? A book that is colored by the cultural values of one, ancient, middle eastern culture that is totally alien to most of the inhabitants of the earth?

Genesis 6:1-4
1 When men began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. 3 Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days will be a hundred and twenty years."
4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days-and also afterward-when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.
3 AnswersReligion & Spirituality2 decades agoHow can I control my urges to take matters into my own hands?
As a single man, when I have manly urges I feel great temptation to take matters into my own hands. I've tried to control myself by praying and asking WWJD, but when I do that I find that images of beautiful, young Israelis come to my mind and it just makes matters worse.
