  • Why do I use the wrong words in my dreams?

As I'm waking up, and reflect on what I was just dreaming, I often realize that I was using the wrong words to say something. For example, I was meaning to say "wring it out" but instead, in the dream I said, "reem it off." I think this is called paraphasia when one is awake, and I've had this when I've had migraines before. But otherwise, it's just when I'm dreaming. Is this normal?

  • Has anyone switched from Provigil to Nuvigil?

My doctor recently switched me from Provigil (200mg) to Nuvigil (250mg). Supposedly, the Nuvigil is supposed to have less side effects, but ever since I've switched, I've noticed some things. I get so hot and sweaty that I drench my shirt! It's horrible. I'm having headaches and stiff neck - it feels like my neck muscles just tense up a lot after taking it. And I'm getting almost manic. Will these side effects go away after a while? Has anyone else noticed these kinds of things?

  • Why is a lot of Mythology grotesque?

A lot of mythology has very wonderful symbolism, where it is easy to understand what it means for "the real world", and also has pleasant imagery and is poetic. But a lot of it is grotesque and what I would call absurd, not pleasing at all (at least to me). Things like gods spewing out other gods, or dismembering the bodies of gods or other beings. And there is often a lot of stress on genitalia. Some of the symbolism is clear, but a lot of times, it makes very little sense to me. What is the meaning of gods in incestuous relationships, or a god masturbating things into existence, or goddesses killing themselves by hitting their genitalia (these are all actual mythological tales)? It's just kind of weird by today's standards, or at least it seems that way to me. How do minds even come up with some of this stuff?!

  • What do these fishy dreams mean?

I have a lot of dreams about fish. The fish are small fish like you'd have in a small aquarium, and they usually are multiplying. A lot of times, they are out of the water and are filthy and disgusting, but alive. Even when they are just in an aquarium, they gross me out in the dreams. Fish in real life do not gross me out at all. But they are always gross and almost horrifying in my dreams.

Most of the time, the fish have somehow spontaneously grown from old water. Like, in one dream, they were growing in the commode. In another, I had left a glass of water sit overnight and the water grew fish in it, that became bigger and more numerous. In my latest dream, I was cleaning the coffee pot and fish had somehow grown from the grime in the coffee pot! They are always like an infestation.

I've also had several dreams where I had forgotten that I owned an aquarium, and so had forgotten to feed the fish for a long time. When I realize this, I hurry to feed them, and they have not died, and in fact, have multiplied, and some of them have become horrific in form. Just generally ugly and appalling looking. In these dreams, I want to get rid of these fish, but I can't get rid of them.

  • What does an imam do, like what is his role in the mosque?

Do all mosques have an imam? What does an imam do exactly? What are his duties? And do imams usually have a job outside of being an imam, or is that like their career (kind of like how a Catholic priest is usually just a priest, and doesn't have a job outside of that).

  • Women, are there times when women should not pray according to Islam?

based on another users' question, I have gathered that Muslim women are not supposed to pray during their menstruation. I am wondering, does that mean only the formal prayers? Or can a woman still pray spontaneously and in a personal way during that time? Is she allowed to pick up a Qur'an during her period? And if not, what about reading verses online (where no physical contact would be made with a book) or hearing them recited? Do all Muslim women abide by these restrictions, or are some more relaxed about them? Is there a verse in the Qur'an that addresses this issue?

    Thanks

  • How does God having attributes undermine the idea of His Oneness?

I am reading about Islam and a recurrent theme is about how Islam handles the apparent contradiction between the claim that God is transcendent and a perfect unity, and the claim that He has attributes, such as knowledge and mercy. But I don't get how attributes undermine oneness. Could someone explain this to me?

  • How can I fix my flashlight?

The place where the battery pack goes in has 2 little metal things, and one will press down when you push on it and the other will not. They are supposed to both press down, and when the metal plate on the battery pack presses it, it causes it to work. But the one won't go down at all now. This flash light was expensive. Is there any way to fix this?

I thought that for a long time. Every time I'd look up something, wikipedia would come up, and I kept thinking, "Man, these Wiccans really know a lot of stuff!!!"

  • Do gay men feel like they are female inside? Do lesbian women feel masculine inside?

I am pretty sure some do. But do all of them? Or can a gay guy feel really masculine, and a lesbian woman feel really feminine?

No offense meant, I just am really curious.

  • What types of Near-Death Experiences do Atheists have?

I was reading about some of the differences and similarities between near death experiences among various religious groups. I think a lot of this can be explained as a sort of dream, in which one interprets the events going on in light of his or her culture and beliefs. So what types of NDE's do Atheists have? Do they have dreams of becoming nothing?

  • What do you think about Jesus' words in Matthew forbidding remarriage?

I have known of women who really struggled with this verse. I know of a woman who went back to her verbally abusive husband and refused to marry the nicest guy in the world who truly loves her with all his heart because she believes it is akin to adultery to remarry another after divorce.

This seems very harsh, and I wonder if it is the correct interpretation. What do you think?

  • What is the proper procedure at a Hindu Temple?

I go to a Hindu Temple some distance from me when I can. I was not raised in the religion, and so I have a lot of questions.

Ok, my temple has this system where you can purchase a ticket downstairs, and then upstairs they have these bags of fruit which purchase with the ticket. But then what do you do with this bag? I know that people offer them to Sri Venkateshwara, to whom this temple is dedicated. But I would like to understand the exact procedure so that I can offer the fruits as well. People in my temple speak many languages and some are not good with English. So I'm always reluctant to just ask.

Any other info you can give me on Temple practices would be most welcome. Thanks!
