  • Is it possible to have a physical space with nothing in it? In other words is it possible to have a void?

From my estimation it seems that every time I try and think of a physical 'void', a concept comes along that will occupy that void.

Imagine that you have a hollow sphere. You evacuate all of the air from the sphere - is it empty? I think not! You have radiation, magnetism etc passing through the sphere at every point inside it. Is it possible to make this sphere completely empty?

  • How do I stop Yahoo's new home page from doing popups when I mouse over?

If I put my cursor in the wrong place in the favorites section on the new home page, it pops up these annoying boxes with some kind of preview information. I hate this as I constantly have to hit the 'x' to remove the preview. If I want to follow a 'favorite' link, then I want to just click on it and not see a preview.

Half the time, the preview pops up due to my incorrect mouse placement.

    How can I stop this?

  • How can I intentionally trip my office's motion sensor? I am tired of the lights going off on me.?

My office has a motion sensor at the doorway that turns off the lights every 15 minutes unless it detects movement. I frequently work at night or early morning and unless someone else comes in or out, then the lights shut off on me. It's such a pain to have to get up, navigate thru the cube farm in pitch dark and then wave my arms until it comes back on.

I have tried putting a moving fan in the doorway, but it's only partially effective. Does anyone have an idea to trick the sensor into detecting a person moving?

  • Are there any rules about the size of a wedding for Catholics?

My step-daughter is getting married in 2010 and we are planning the size etc.. My mother-in-law has stated that the wedding will have to be 50 guests or less because my step-daughter has had children out of wedlock. I can find no rules anywhere that this is the case. My father-in-law is a Deacon and will be marrying my step-daughter.

I think that my Mother-in-law is just embarassed and old fashioned with regard to my step-daughter having kids. I agree that the situation is not optimal, but the kids are here and what's done is done.

Is there any real basis for her 'rule' and if not does anyone have any guidlines to help me battle this out.

I'm paying for the wedding and reception in entirity.

    Thanks!

  • What is the difference between Bush's stimulus and Obama's?

    I'm a little lost here.

Early last year, Bush sent out $152 billion in stimulus checks. He then followed up at the end of the year with a bait-and-switch bailout package costing $700 billion. I say bait-and-switch because it was advertized to us as the repurchase of toxic debt to free up the financial system, and ended up being investment money and 'bonus' money to Wall St.

Now Obama is doing his own stimulus package. $787 billion. I may be wrong here, but the money is going to be spent on tax relief, social security hikes, unemployment hikes, infrastructure, housing, healthcare, education, energy, automobiles, security and law enforcement.

Please tell me why. Why are the Republicans having a fit at this effort? To me, the 2nd stimulus is an easy sell. It will create jobs, get the country out of its funk give us a few extra dollars in our pockets. The goal is not to make a few people mega-rich at everyone else's expense, but to improve the country and allow a decent standard of living for more people.

It may contain a little bit of 'make work'. It may mean a bigger government that would need to be trimmed down at a later stage. But it is an effort that in my opinion is better spent than $100,000 office makeovers and multi-million dollar bonuses and executive jets for a few.

This recession/depression was caused by the greed and stupidity of the financial giants. It was their bad decisions who allowed loans to people who couldn't afford them. They built the house of cards and they deserve to pay the price for their own mess. But I didn't participate in this mess! Now they get bonuses and keep their jobs, while I get small handouts from the government, massive losses in my retirement plan and the risk of unemployment.

I really think that these supposedly intelligent Republicans need to get over their compulsion to be contrary. Their solution did not work. They don't have a solution put together that has the far reaching effect that the Obama solution provides. The Republican way is to put trust into financial institutions that have proven themselves to be untrustworthy.

Can anyone tell me why the Bush/Republican bailout is superior overall to the Obama/Democrat bailout?

  • Compensation for torn LCL?

I was involved in a motorcycle accident for which I was not at fault. I have already received a check from the other people's insurance regarding the damage to my bike, but I am wondering how much I should ask for compensation for my injuries.

I had the accident 5 weeks ago and I just had an MRI confirming that I have extensive bone bruising and a partially torn Lateral Collateral Ligament (LCL).

I have missed about 6 days of work and have had significant pain.

The list of my injuries include:

    Concussion

    Whiplash

Bruises to my left shoulder and elbow

    Stoved thumb

    Multiple right leg injuries:

A dent in my lower calf muscle

A lump on my lower leg

Numbness and tingling to various areas of my lower leg

    A partially torn LCL

Microfractures and extensive bone marrow edema

I know that I'll get 'get a lawyer responses' but I just wanted an idea from other people of what would be a reasonable pain and suffering compensation. This is a full torte accident in PA.

  • Shower diverter pressure problem?

I have one of those pull-up type diverters for my shower. It leaks a little, but not too bad. For a number of years my shower has made a small knock type noise when the diverter is pulled up and the shower is activated. I have always had good pressure at the shower head.

Just recently, there is no pressure at the shower head when the diverter is pulled. It's like a fast drip. There is no more knocking noise when the diverter is pulled. I have removed the shower head and the results are the same - virtually no water flow.

I'm guessing that there is some kind of flap or valve that gets activated when the diverter blocks the flow of water? Is this something repairable? I have considered pouring CLR back down the shower head to the valve.

We have a whole house filter and don't have many other water quality issues. The other showers in the house work fine. The manufacturer is no longer in business and I cannot remember the name although Home Depot still sells repair parts.

  • Neck pain in the front after a fall?

A couple of days ago I slipped on ice and fell pretty hard. I landed square on my back but my head whipped back onto the concrete. I had to lay there for several minutes to get my whits about me before getting up.

I still have a fairly painful bump on the back of my head but there are some other pains that have developed too and I'm not sure if they are related.

Firstly and most obvious is painful swelling in the front of my neck. If I trace a line from my ear to my sternum I encounter several painful swollen areas. This is the same on both sides of my neck. They feel like moveable lumps and are warm and painful to the touch. I don't have ear ache of a sore throat so I'm not sure whether the fall gave me a whiplash in the front of my neck?

Also I keep getting a floating shadow in my right eye. It's only occasional but it's like something sitting on my contact lenses - but there's nothing there.

    I'm 38 M and in reasonable shape.

  • How is it possible that I put on 22 pounds in 2 weeks? 12% of my body weight?

I just came back from vacation and weighed myself on my usual scale. I was horrified to see I had put on 22 pounds during my 2 weeks away. (178 pounds to 200 pounds)

I spent a week at Disney where I walked my A$$ off pushing a wheelchair in 95+ heat. Then a I spent a week at the beach riding my bike and swimming every day.

I ate well, but not to wild excess. I did not snack out or eat a bunch of junk.

I'm male - high 30's - physically fit and well.

  • How can I remove a stubborn human urine odor?

I have been working on cleaning a house where an old lady died. She was a pack rat and her house is full from floor to ceiling with crap. She no longer used any of the bedrooms because they were too full and instead only used the living room to sleep in.

She was incontinent and was too old to care about hygene.

The bathroom was full of urine soiled clothes and the sleeper sofa smelled unbelievably bad. All of this has been removed from the house, however the smells remain. STRONG!

Are there chemicals that will counteract the smell of human urine? I have previously treated cat urine with some success, but this is different - not an amonia smell.

I am concerned that the smell is in the subfloor and walls, not just the carpets and crap. This isn't a decomposing smell, just stale urine.

Any suggestions? A spray treatment would be ideal.

  • Do I have a hernia?

I have a localized pain to the right of my belly button. When I push it, it feels more firm than the other side. It hurts a bit, but feels good when I pull my waist band of my pants up to that level (a little support). I'm carrying about 20 pounds too much so my fat may be hiding a bulge. I cannot remember doing anything to pull a muscle, and this has been (slightly) painful for about a week. I feel it when I lift something. I have never been diagnosed with having a hernia before, but I had pain in this area a while ago. A CAT scan at that time showed nothing.

  • Which is the better coffee? Starbucks, McDonalds or Dunkin Donuts?

In my opinion a fresh, hot cup of McDonalds Smooth coffee is hard to beat (especially at 69 cents)? I don't have much experience with other coffee shops - which would you recommend?

  • How long does it take to become naturalized in PA?

I have had my Green Card for over 10 years now and I am considering ponying up the $400 for citizenship. How long does it typically take from first application to actually taking the civics test, then going through the naturalization ceremony. This is assuming that I am a straightforward case and there are no problems.
