  • If the public schools lose money because we homeschool, where does that money?

I mean, everyone talks about how the schools lose money whenever a child isn't enrolled, but we're still paying our taxes (like everyone else), so what happens to the money?

  • Anyone else recognize their answers here?

    http://www.eduqna.com/Home-Schooling/288-Home-Scho...

This was sent to me in a grouplist that I belong to. I thought I recognized some of the info. Turns out, I wrote a good chunk of it! Should I start copyrighting my answers now?

  • Married homeschool moms - how do you get dad involved in your homeschooling?

My husband supports the *idea* of homeschooling, but expects me to do ALL the curriculum choosing and teaching (aside from any co-ops or one-day classes). How can I get him to WANT to take some of the responsibility without "begging" him to help out? I realize he works very hard to support this lifestyle and needs time off, but, hey, so do I. And besides, our boys need time with their dad, don't they?

  • Why does my brand new iPod nano keep skipping over songs?

Even when I specifically choose them, it still skips to the next song. When I sync it, it will play through all the songs once, then start skipping over a bunch of them (it may skip 10-12 songs in a row). Is it something in the set-up or is there something wrong with the iPod itself?

  • How can two different people on Yahoo! Answers have the same name?

I was just totally freaked out by an answer that I didn't write that had my Yahoo! Answers ID. When I looked up their profile, this other person had just joined within the last month or two, but has the exact same ID as me (and the freaky thing is, they're in the same state!) Doesn't it seem weird that Y!A would allow this?

  • What is the appropriate attire for ladies for a funeral visitation?

I know you wear black to the funeral service, but what should you wear for the visitation at the funeral home (this is the night before the funeral). I only have one outfit to wear and don't want to wear it both days. If it matters, the deceased was the son of a friend.

  • Can you "stucco" over a brick fireplace?

We have a standard brick fireplace in our living room, but the decore is southwest meets northwest cabin. I'd like to stucco over the brick. Is that possible and is it a do-it-yourself project?

  • Why do public school teachers seem to think all homeschooled kids are being deprived?...?

There have been several answers from public school teachers who say the kids who have been homeschooled, then enrolled in public school are all behind in their studies. Isn't it possible that these are the kids whose parents figured out after a year or two that they couldn't do this and decided it would be better for the child if they enrolled him or her in public school? Isn't is possible (even likely) that the homeschooled kids they DON'T see are homeschooling successfully?

  • Why do people associate the "real world" with public school?

Where in the "real world" are you segregated by age and test scores? Where in the "real world" are you forced to 'live' with harrassment (bullying)? When in the "real world" have you been invited to a dance? Where in the "real world" are you forced to deal with violence, sex, and drugs on a regular basis? Isn't the "real world" the place where you CHOOSE your job, your friends, how you spend your time, what you study?

Is it possible homeschoolers are BETTER prepared for the "real world" because they interact with it on a daily basis?

  • Are you a homeschooling purist?

How do you feel when people say they are homeschooling and then talk about the online program they are enrolled in? Am I wrong, or isn't homeschool when a parent teaches the child, not a professional teacher with 20 or 30 (or more) online students?

I guess it just kind of bugs me that we are all lumped together. Is there a way to separate the purists from the "otherly" schooled?

Don't get me wrong - there's nothing wrong with the online schools - heaven knows I may have to consider it as my kids get older. I'm just not sure I would put it in the same category as homeschool.

  • How do you endorse a check when they get your name slightly wrong?

I received a check for a rebate, but they dropped the first letter of my first name and changed the second letter (the other 5 letters of my first and and my whole last name are correct). They have my correct address on the check. I remember in high school they said to endorse it incorrectly (the way it is on the check) first, then correctly - is that still true? Any bankers/tellers out there?

  • Are all Shark vacuum cleaners really loud?

I bought one and I have to wear earplugs to use it. It doesn't work all that well, either, just good enough. I'm thinking of taking it back. Any suggestions for a good stick vacuum? My case on my Hoover was cracked really badly (where it meets the handle) - that's why I bought the Shark.

  • What am I?

Those who really want me can't get me.

Those who have me can't seem to get rid of me.

Those who don't want me can get me very easily.
