  • Buying a business/goodwill (web design business), is it worth it?

I am offered a established web design business, i am a graphic artist and used to freelance so i'm used to work from home/on my own, deal with customers etc.

the proposed business has been operating for 9 years, has a good customer base (incuding 3 BIAs - business improvement areas). The lady that's selling showed me her statements, the business brings her ~36000/yr before income tax, after sales tax. 7000 of it is for hosting contracts (so reoccuring income) she wants 30,000 which includes all customer files, her contracts etc and one month training with 6 months support. Most is goodwill so there's no way knowing how many customers will stay especially knowing how much competition there is in graphic design. i'm not totally up to date on web design currently but taking a webmaster certificate course over the next 3 months and have done graphic design for over 20 years. thanks in advance.

  • lawn tractor won't start, battery is not old?

our craftsman lawn tractor was working fine, had a new battery a year ago, now it won't start without a boost (just makes clicking sound when you turn the key), when you drive it and it stalls, same problem - it won't start again... we are thinking it's not the battery as we should get 'something' when turning the key, any idea what we can check for before we pay for expansive repair, or by another battery (how do we check if the battery is good or not? thx in advance :)

  • Should i buy a 2002 dodge Dakota SLT 5.9 4x4 or...?

hi all, i have so no idea of trucks.... so i'm looking at the above for can $5000 (private) comes with a plow, 193000kms, body looks good, tonneau cover, leather int., true dual exhaust, owner says he put $6000 into it last year, selling due to insurance issues with his young son and it would be worth more like 8000. OR i did see at a dealer a 2004 dakota 4.7L V8 RWD w/cap, looks nice - don't know much about it so far but it has 275000kms on it, cost $4200... i'm in ontario, we get snow but usually not tons, i'm only wanting to buy a truck for camping/taking bycicles somewhere, getting wood etc. we live in the country, and i might have a problem getting up(hill) in the driveway on occasion. also, what to look out for when looking at a used truck, any advice is helpful - i really don't know much about them :) thx in advance!

  • what used pick-up truck to buy for about $5000?

I'm looking on kijiji for a used truck in s/w ontario, there are many for sale but i have no idea (don't know engines etc.) - i used to have a chev venture van, but it died... now i'm driving a car but i hate not having the cargo space (doing renovations/going camping etc.) so i was thinking to buy a van again, but a truck with a cap might be better since i have to transport more 'stuff' than people. i would also drive it to work (about 20km/day). any ideas what make of truck would be good ie. for an early 2000 model best resale/rust resistant/engine kms etc.? any advise would be great!!! for example i just looked at this one http://hamilton.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-cars-tru...

  • Indesign cs3 save as settings - is it changeable?

we just switched to indesign cs3 (yes i know we are behind, but i work for a cheapscate company), anyhow, now when we open a document it constantly displays 'save as' instead of just saving, is there a way to change it? or does it just do it because we are working with docs created in cs2?

  • need recipe ideas for chicken legs but...!?

ok , here's the challenge, i am giving a basic cooking school (for young adults with little money that can't cook to get them away from fast/prepared frozen foods).

to show what you can do with little money and BASIC ingredients i need a little help with the chicken part.

we will use chicken legs since they are the cheapest.

i need for different dishes and they must all use the SAME INGREDIENTS:

ie, chicken legs, carrots, pasta, onions, milk and maybe something else but it must be cheap! i'm doing this in partnership with a church and it's all covered through donations, so not much play re: $$

    Ideas that i have

    1. roasted chicken legs, carrots, pasta (what ever kind decided on), chicken leg/veggie cutoffs to be used for chicken stock (on all recipes) so there could either be a cream sauce with the chicken or a gravy.

    2. Chicken soup

    3. Chicken salad

    4. Chicken a la King (i know, need peas)

    5. ANY BETTER IDEAS????

Please don't give recipes that need specialized ingredients/spices, i got those idea from some chefs already that don't get the idea of cooking different things out of the same ingredients. i will do the same with pork and beef but i have many ideas for it since i make it often, i don't really like chicken myself so i'm a little uncreative with it....

    thx in advance

  • what do you think about this recipe idea?

getting rid of some fridge stuff, i thought about making rolls of zucchini/carrot (thinly sliced lengthwise and blanched), roll them up with slice of zucchini then carrot and prosciutto ham, bread them and fry until golden, served with a bluecheese sauce, any other ideas or what i can make better?

  • do you like my toasmaster table topics idea?

topic is teambuilding, since it's remembrance day this week, i thought there is no more crucial place to work as a team than in a war. so i packaged a bunch of little household items and each speaker gets one and has to talk about how this item played a significant role in winning the war. what do you think, i'm very new to toastmasters so a little unsure if that will fly. thx

  • i need help advertising a cooking school to young people?

hi there, i'm trying to start a small cooking school (non profit) to teach young people that don't know how to cook and are mainly dependent on food banks cooking basics and how to feed themselfs/families on less than $10/day. since lots of kids don't learn from their families anymore and it's scratched at school there are lots of young people that don't know how to make even the easiest food themselfs and wast money they don't have at fast food restaurants. now, i guess the biggest concern is to get them interested, and i wonder if any of you have some good ideas on what to put on a flyer that will be distributed through the food bank. thanks in advance

  • what do you think about this leftover food idea, please add ideas...?

ok i have way too many leftovers and don't know what to make, so here's my list of ingredients:

    leftover steak

    fresh mushrooms

    1 leek

    leftover mashed potato

    fresh celery

    and well household staples

so i though i grind up the steak and make a gravy with it with celery and mushrooms and canned beans

use the leek/potato and mix in some spices/cheese/egg and make perogies out of them and add the sauce on top, i also have frozen spinach

let me know if you have better ideas or if this sounds ok, gotta clean out the fridge
