  • Are any fencing weapons hand-neutral?

Looking at fencing equipment sites, the epee, sabre, and foil all seem to be sold hand-specific. Are any ambidextrous?

  • people who help just-released prisoners?

Some time ago I read about a guy who meets prisoners right as they get out of prison (I think it was in California) and he spends the first 24-48 hrs with them getting them used to how things have changed in the time they were incarcerated. Is there an organization where that's part of what they do? I'd like to know more about it/them if so.

  • How to stop overwrite mode on a Macbook Pro?

I accidentally did a keyboard command and am stuck in overwrite mode (instead of insert mode) in G Sheets. What keyboard command will change it back to insert mode? I ve tried fn-return, fn-ctrl-v, fn-i, fn-I, fn-l, fn-L, fn-left arrow (every arrow), and nothing is working. No attached keyboard, using the laptop alone.

  • Is there any reason NOT to use the heat/cool mode of a thermostat year-round?

My thermostat has four mode options: heat only, cool only, heat/cool, and off.

The home is in the desert, is not occupied daily, and the cool-only mode range tops out at 90, while the heat/cool range tops out at 95.

I’d like to save some money by keeping it at 95 when unoccupied, but not if it’s better for some reason to use cool-only.

Is there any reason NOT to use the heat/cool mode year-round?

  • How to get small amounts of sterile saline for anitbiotic dilution?

I have to give a rabbit a shot every other day, and the injection includes a small amount of sterlie saline or ringers lactate to dilute the antibiotic. I can’t figure out the best way to source the saline/RL, as I see it mainly in bags. A) I need .5ml per dose, and B) I don’t know how to get it from the bag while keeping the remainder sterile. Any tips? Sources? Smaller distribution methods than bags?

  • Heater / AC thermostat with temperature limit / range?

Are there any HVAC thermostats other than Nest models that let you customize an allowed temp range? I don’t want vacation renters to crank the AC way down since it’ll hurt the system, but I don’t want to lock it at one temp, either. I want to set a range like 73-95. I’d also like to prevent it from being changed, so a PIN or password feature would be great, too.

  • Excel - is there a way to paste specific values per keyboard shortcut?

I'm working on a project in Excel where I need to repeatedly type 5 different values. Is there a way with a macro or something to paste value a when I type ctrl-a (or whatever), value b when I type ctrl-b, etc? I haven't done macros before, so if that's part of your answer, please point me towards a good how-to for creating macros, too. Thanks!

  • Stop ipod 4G from playing video to TV?

When I try to play a YouTube video on my iPod, it plays audio and shows a screen saying the video is playing to the TV. I don't know how to change it back.

I tried going to Settings/Video, and there are only two options, close captioning and start video where I left off (or restart). I tried opening the Videos app, and all it says is I have no videos.

I don't see any Airplay icon when a video is playing.

Gah! How do I make the video play on the iPod again?

  • Firefox is asking me if I want to save image instead of showing it when given an image URL. How do I fix this?

When I try to get to an image URL (one that ends with .jpg, for example), FF is asking me if I want to save the image instead of loading the image in the browser.

What do I need to change to get it to just load the image so I can see it? This didn't used to happen -- I must have changed a setting and didn't realize it.

    FF 32.0

    Thanks!

  • conditional formatting greater than values excel 2011 on a mac?

I have an Excel spreadsheet where I have 13 columns of numbers (B-N), and a column (col Q) that is the average of each row (cell value is a number, not a formula, for all numbers).

I want to use highlight cells that have a greater than average value for their row. I assume I could use either the Top/Bottom for averages conditional formatting, or make use of the value in Col Q, to highlight values that are greater than the average.

It'll work for one row using the Top/Bottom average option in conditional formatting, but when I try to spread it to the rest of the 2280 row sheet, it *looks* like it's worked -- there are cells highlighted -- but on closer inspection the copied-to highlights are not above the average for their row. I've tried the paint brush and copy/paste special > format only, but apparently the steps I'm taking aren't doing the job.

How do I successfully copy it to the rest of the sheet? Does it make a difference (for spreading the formatting) which way I set it up (Top/Bottom average or Highlight cell rules / greater than (if B2>Q2 then highlight it))?

This is Excel 2011 on a Mac.

    Thanks!

  • Identify a Kpop song?

Because Shazam didn't get it right.

It's a duet, a guy and a girl, and it's a little folksy and partly English, partly Korean.

In the video, one or both played a guitar, and the beginning and end showed a truck towing an Airstream-type trailer.

    Thanks!

  • What's best for roses in a drought?

I haven't pruned my roses yet (area of mild winters). The area is in a drought, and since I'll be doing very little watering, I'm wondering if it's better to leave them unpruned (hips still on some of them), prune them extra severely (leaving few main canes), or prune moderately like I generally do? It's a mix of hybrid teas, floribundas, and grandifloras. Summers can get over 100, but not for many days in a row, and not very often -- we might have 4-5 instances of 90+ in a year. I have about 50 shrubs, and the water adds up.

  • Are a loveseat and loveseat sofa the same thing?

I know a loveseat is a small sofa that seats two, but is there a name for a longer sofa that bottom-wise, seats two? I'm picturing a long sofa that has two upright cushions and two seat cushions, where width-wise and elbow-wise, three people fit fine, but one of them would be sitting in the middle where the cushions meet. Is that still a loveseat, regardless of the overall length of the thing? Does it have a different name when it's that big?

  • Clock with clear AM/PM display (talking?) for confused elderly person?

Sometimes my aged relative has trouble understanding whether it's day or night, so we're looking for a clock or other aid to help. I've looked at talking clocks, but their descriptions don't mention whether AM/PM is announced.

Any suggestions for talking clocks that include AM/PM in the announcement? Or regular clock with large AM/PM displayed? Or other device that helps a confused person understand if it is day or night? Thanks!

  • Recently, a Bollywood filmed on location in Silicon Valley. Any idea what it was?

About 2-3 years ago I read something online that a Bollywood film was doing some on-location filming in Silicon Valley, California, possibly in San Jose. I enjoy Hindi films, and would particularly like to see this one. But they were secretive about its title and who was in it! Do you know what movie this was, or of any good Hindi films filmed in California? I'm always up for more of them! Thanks!

  • Set up new Pioneer Elite receiver, and having problems?

I just set up a Pioneer Elite Vsx-31 receiver. When I try to watch a blu-ray disc, I get sound but no picture. If I watch TV, I get a picture but no sound through the receiver. I believe I'm using the right input (input 5 for my TV for the BD player, Ch 3 for TV) because I can see things like the Sirius menu if I press that button.

The blu-ray is connected to the receiver with an HDMI cable. The Receiver connects to the TV with a component cable (blue/red/green). TV audio connects with single yellow audio cable.

It looks to me like everything is plugged in right, but obviously I'm missing something. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • Is there anything I can do when sites think I'm using a different kind of browser?

I normally use FF (currently using 3.6.15), and it's really frustrating to have a website tell me it's optimized for browsers x, y, and z, and that I need to upgrade or get one of those -- and I'm using a newer version of FF than they have listed! One I just visited (using FF) says "we see you're using IE 6."

Is there something I can do to get around this issue?

    Thanks!
