  • Wondering if this is legal? Discrimination?

We had a corporate Christmas party that we had the choice whether to attend or not. The office closed three hours early to give those going time to get ready for said banquet. It was addressed that the workers going to the party would be paid for the full day. Those that didn't go, like myself and another coworker, were told we wouldn't receive the full days wages unless we worked.

    Is this fair and legal?

  • why are the drinking fountains turning black?

I work at a High school as a custodian. One of my tasks is keeping the drinking fountains clean. I often use glass cleaner for general purpose cleaning and then a chemical called Showers N Stuff to remove hard water.....followed up by Sheila Shine to make them sparkle. My problem is over time the fountains have turned black especially in the back of the unit and along the sides. Is it the Sheila Shine? or one of the other chemicals I use?

And how to I get rid of the black build up on the steel fountains?

  • 2009 Nissan Altima makes popping noise after startup and sluggish driving in hot weather?

I'm asking these two questions for my mother in law:

    1. She said she scraped the bottom of her car the other day and is afraid she did some kind of damage to it. She says that she can hear a popping noise coming from underneath the car after starting the car and backing out of the garage. It seems to do it on a cold morning. After searching a few forums, it sounds like it might be exhaust related. What do others think?

    2. Coming back from a California trip, her engine light came on in the Death Valley area. After it came on, she said that she couldn't drive over 40 mph and it was sluggish to accelerate. After pulling over several times, turning the car off and on, she was able to make it out of the 110 degree area slowly but surely. Once she passed Las Vegas and the temperature cooled down outside, the car ran normal. I'm wondering what kind of problem this might be?

  • Trouble with IE 9 accessing facebook?

I get a window that says "unable to download / from www.facebook.com"

"Unable to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later.'

Several other people suggested trying to delete internet history and cache but that doesn't work here.

Could this be a problem with Windows Vista?

  • Dvd drive all of the sudden quit burning dvds?

I have an old Dell 9300 laptop that started to have trouble with my DVD burner. When I stick a DVD in it to copy files and burn, the drive won't recognize that a DVD is in it. It displays CD.

I recently had trouble burning a music CD too. The burning process quit too soon and I was left with tracks that weren't finished.

The drive will play both types of discs just fine.

I reinstalled the driver already and that didn't fix anything.

    Any ideas?

    The burner is a Sony DVD+RW DW-056A

  • what brand of lawnmower do I have?

I was given a lawnmower a while back but I don't know the name brand on it. The deck is red. It has a Briggs & Straton engine. It does say "Select Series" on it. It's 5.5HP and is self-propelled.

I'm thinking either Sears or Walmart brand.

  • Is it my Vizio TV or my remote giving me trouble?

I have a 32 in. Vizio LCD that just started giving me trouble. I'll pull up the on screen menu to activate the sleep timer and it immediately goes to my screen settings. I'll back up once and the menu goes off. When I tried punching other buttons the menu went nuts.........rapidly scrolling through the settings without being able to stop it. The remote won't turn it off. I managed to turn the TV off from the TV itself and that seems to work. I've had that happen before where I couldn't turn it off.......almost like a computer that freezes up.

I tried other batteries in the remote and that doesn't work. I tried unplugging the TV and back in to clear anything and that doesn't work either.

  • Two cars with water pooling on floorboard. Where's the water coming from?

I live in Seattle and in Jan. the city was pounded with several inches of rain in a 24 hour period. I have two cars, a 99 Olds Intrigue and a 03 Ford Taurus that had water puddles on the passenger side floorboard. The Ford had more water than the Olds. At the time the heavy rain fell, both cars were parked. I did go out before and after the storm and after cleaning up the water as best I could.

I'm wondering how the water got in. My best guess was that the water leaked in from the windshield cowling, under the dash, ran down and puddled.

It's weird that both cars had water inside....

  • Why do Panasonic DVD recorders have short lifespan?

I've gone through 4 of them in the past 2 years. The first 3 models were DMR ES40VS.. All 3 of these would have trouble after recording discs leaving discs unreadable. You would here a horrible grindling noise and then the disc couldn't be read.

I decided to get a different model DMR EZ47 and this one is giving me U61 power issues.

All 4 units seem to go bad after recording 20 discs each.

I like Panasonic products but these recorders seem to have short lifespans.

  • Can the battery backup that keeps your computer going, also keep other appliances going?

I have a APC ES500 or something like that, that my computer is hooked up too. I also have a clock radio and a few other things plugged in to it.

I've noticed that during a power outage, the radio and other stuff kept on working.

Will this be the case if I have a TV or something just as big hooked up to it? That way I can safely shut it off.

  • How many Chrysler/Dodge, etc. owners out there with dashboards that crack and fall apart?

I had an LHS that had that problem. They wouldn't fix it. I saw on Youtube that a bunch of Ram trucks have this problem.

  • Possible fraud? What to do next?

Well here's my story: I sold a car on EBay and shortly thereafter I got a "Fib" notice from Ebay stating that they consider the transaction cancelled because the buyer wasn't considered a registered user. But I didn't expect to get an email from the buyer before that about sending the money for payment. I figured the notice wasn't necessary because he was willing to continue the transaction. So I ignored the Fib notice. A while later, I got a check in the mail from the buyer with a note indicating there was extra money on the check for me to wire to his shipper. I didn't think anything of it and figured "the car is sold. Who cares where it goes?" So the other night, I wired the remaining money (after taking my cut) to his shipper. I sent an email to him wondering when he was going to pick it up. He responded this morning saying that he no longer wants it and wants the remaining money back.

    So that's where we stand.

However!!!!! I got to thinking about whether or not the bank check (or credit union check) I got was taken fraudulently.........Which means that I helped this person illegally move money.

    Any ideas?

  • Having trouble with windows update...error 0x80072eee7?

Solution suggests that I change something in my HOSTS file. I'm not sure what I'm suppose to change.

    This is what it says:

    # Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.

    #

    # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.

    #

    # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each

    # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should

    # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.

    # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one

    # space.

    #

    # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual

    # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.

    #

    # For example:

    #

    # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server

    # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

    127.0.0.1 localhost
