  • Dumb/lazy linux question on my possible first pc build.?

This is what I'm thinking about buying.

I'm new to linux but love it. Is there any reason this system won't work with a linux installation? Makululinux 7 xfce to be specific, but the newest Ubuntu is also an option. I'm good to go, right? Note: I plan to upgrade to a more powerful power supply.

  • Basic disk vs dynamic disk (pros and cons) when using the disk management console?

I recently decided to undo a linux/win 7 dual boot setup on my boot drive using an image I made using Acronis. No problem. Somehow in the resizing of partitions, I made my data hard drive into a 'dynamic' disk. I only noticed this because of the different color scheme (basic disk=blue dynamic=puke green). What is different now? Should I change it back? If so, how? I've read a little and it seems the 'dynamic disk' option might be better should I opt to go with a multiple boot/OS setup,....which I am considering,.....

I am relatively pc literate, so what I'm really asking the yahoo answer community is to SIMPLY break down what the differences are.

If any are feeling up to the challenge, I'm also asking advice for a setup of 4 different linux distro installations on one drive.

I know this is a lot to ask, but I'll take a list of links to read the answers myself if it's too much to explain.

  • Hijacked email help.?

I have recently received an email (actually many) from a known friend that definitely is not from her. I recognized it for what it was immediately. Spam. I then notified her of the problem.

I did an email trace and learned this latest email came from Philippines, Makati. What can I do as the recipient to report this? What can my friend, the 'sender' do? To whom do I ask to 'fix' this? Yahoo?

Useful link to trace an email

  • Can an install executable be created from the contents of the program files folder of the installed program?

How many times has a friend asked if you could fix their broken program? Just reinstall, right? What if the setup.exe file, or whatever the install file is called, no longer exists on the pc (or just plain doesn't exist anymore) Wouldn't it be nice to have a program that rebuilds the missing install file from the remaining parts? Is it even possible? I'm not a complete dolt, so please take it easy on me. An explanation or link to the explanation would be great,.....THANKS.

  • How did the term broadway (ace high straight) come to be?

I understand 'bicycle' or 'wheel' came from the bicycle deck, but where did broadway come from?

  • Which Linux distribution that is most like Windows for a total noob?

OK, I'm fairly smart. I'm also lazy. I only know Windows and want to switch to running Linux (maybe). I've decided that a good way to start is by using/trying a live cd version of Linux before committing fully, but which? It should be able to run windows based programs and connect to the 'net via wireless USB network adapter. I've seen a few versions that are ultra small/compact. I think that I would want just the opposite. I want maximum functionality and options. These add-ons/plugins should come pre-installed and be pre-configured and work flawlessly. I don't want much, do I !!! Anywayz,....does such a version exist? So far, it looks like it's SLAX Kill Bill Edition 5.1.8.1.

Given enough time, I'll probably figure it out myself. Just hoping I someone could jump start education in Linux.

    THANKS.
