  • What to do at family reunions?

We have been having family reunions for over 10 years(we didn't have one in 2003).

Our family is a 'small' one..(about 50 total) and most live with-in 50 - 60 miles, so we don't have to worry about hotel/motel accomadations.

Members that live out of state have RV's and park at nearby facilities..or stay with relatives close by.

We have the usual..pitch-in..games..etc..in a rented pavilion located in a local city park.

    We also have an auction..wrapped gifts..for adults & kids..and anyone..to help pay for.rental and buy meat.. decorations..condiments..drinks..ice..plates/napkins & utensils.

I also make Reunion Booklets..families send me letters (20 copies each) about 2 months before..during the year I get email (poems, stories, medical reports, weddings, any activities) that I also include. Some years I make memory pages for deceased members.

We started a Recipe Book a few years back..so I request new recipes every year.

    What more can we do?

    Suggestions welcomed !

    Thank you !

  • Anyone being treated for Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia (CMML)?

My husband was recently diagnosed with CMML, due to a bone marrow test.(he will be 74 in December). His white cell count was 16000th and went up to 18000th. last test was 16700th.He was told as the result of last test that was normal, but his primary Dr. was concerned when it elevated to 16000th's. What is a normal range?

He is being treated for low platelets. 1 - 1 1/2 years ago they showed up at about 45 (thousandths)...since then he has given up smoking & drinking and regular coffee. The platelet count (last tested)was about 65.

He has none of the symptoms related to CMML (weakness..shortness of breath..anemia..bleeding..bruising..recurrent infections..enlarged spleen)and his hematoligist doesn't seem to be to concerned about it. Saw him last month and he doesn't want to see him for another 3 months.

Hematoligist says platelets can be added to do this procedure, and would probably be an over night stay in the hospital.

Back to original question. What is normal range for White Blood Cells?

  • What is the problem with youngsters, today, they have no concept of the English language?

They speak in code (or something)...They don't seem to know when to use words that sound alike.....hear/here...

    do/due...

    their/there.....

    to/too/two....

    bare/bear.....

    no/know......

    scent/cent...

    sense/since/cents....

    read/reed...etc. etc.

(Fifty cents...is not supposed to be fifty cent).

It reminds me of trying to read letters from (my)grandparents and great grandparents...(they didn't have much book-learnin'....so they would attempt to sound out their words......made for some very interesting reading.....no excuse for todays kids.)

Some of them never learned any manners ...especially when they are interacting with the general public...(cashiers...they don't know when to say Thank you. They 'think' ..."Have A Nice Day' ..is the same. IT"S NOT!!
