I have a Ruger 10/22 for practice and to teach the kids shooting basics. I thinking of moving up to something "more". We have no plans to hunt, just target. I guess there could be some home defense potential. I don't care for shotguns. I was thinking of something .223 caliber like a Mini 14 or maybe an SKS 7.62 x 39 mm. I'd like to have something with relatively inexpensive ammo (though I know nothing is cheaper than a .22).

What do you suggest?

I realize I'm going from a little eco-box to a little suv. I'd probably want to take it off roading a little, though I realize it really isn't an off-road vehicle. There's really nothing wrong with the Focus, other than it is a little small and sometimes I think an 4WD or AWD would make sense during the snowy South Dakota winters.

My buddies all drive Ford F250s, but I don't want to spend $80 to fill the gas tank every week. The wife wants an minivan, though I think that it would be too big of a vehicle 90% of the time. Plus, I hate the whole minivan soccer mom image.

I also can't log onto the sights I do my banking. Other sites are ok.

My fishing buddies always brag, "Yeah I was up in Canada (or Northern Europe or someplace really cold) and there's a river up there that never freezes because the current is so swift." Doesn't water always freeze at 32 degrees no matter how fast it is moving?

You know, would it be better to be ignorant in paradise or to have have the knowledge of good and evil in this world.

I mean think about it. Christ's followers are wearing the symbol of his execution. It's like if members of the JFK fanclub wore sniper rifle medallions. Why don't Christians wear the Fish or something else?

I hear the same old thing. The war is killing our country's 19 years old soldiers for a good cause or perhaps a hopeless cause, and yet there is "no way" we can get out. How long should we fight this war? Should we pull out all the soldiers and post them on the Mexican boarder? Should we invade Iran? Should we put Saddam back in power? What would you do???

I've heard about these guys on the net and on the radio. If you have over $10K in debt, they settle with your creditors for a lower amount. Has anyone tried them? Can it put you in worse financial shape than if you try to pay off your debts on your own?

I water it all the time and it looks even worse. It looked ok until I mowed it...the lawn looks burned. Is it too late to reseed it and fertilize it? Can I just wait a few weeks and a new green lawn will grow replacing the brown, burned one?

Actually the old divorced guy's birthday is June 18th.

I just saw my cousin's latest movie. It was possibly the worst movie I've seen in 10 years. His movies are produced by a major studio and actually make millions of dollars, but they are poorly written, unfunny comedies, and worst of all, BORING! He has had a bunch of lucky breaks and connections to get where he is today, but I imagine there must be literally thousands of people with more talent and vision who "deserve" to be where he is instead of him.

I was thinking of calling him this weekend and telling him what I really think about him, but I'm not sure what good it would do. Maybe it is not my place to criticize family when they are doing what they want to do and are successful at it (at least monitarily).

Should I just say "congratulations" and talk about the kids and the weather? He is one of the guys that gives Hollywood a bad name. But I'm sure he could read the reviews. They are more brutal than even what I would say.

It's also the anniversary of the Columbine shootings. This is no coincidence. It's also Carmen Electra's birthday. And George Takai's. Weird.

My wife wants to record stuff off of TV and Tivo. I've read some good stuff about Lite-On recorders, but I've never heard of them before.

For the record, my wife and kids belong to this particular faith, also. They don't seem to have a problem with it. I fear if I follow my head, and leave the faith, it will alienate me from my family. What bothers me the most is the faith spends most of its time trying to get new converts, I feel it ignores its current followers. It also claims that its top leaders are infalliable, which seems crazy, since they are human like everyone else and prone to make mistakes. It seems like if I disagree with official policy, I'm told to pray about it, but have really no other recourse.
