Thankful I'm still standing. "What happens in time, echoes in eternity." - Maximus, "Gladiator" I respect and enjoy most of the Y!A users, especially the regular folks in the R&S and Politics categories, who always remind me of how much I value my own beliefs and engaging others' beliefs that are far different from my own.

  • Can I get a new phone number without buying another phone line?

I just got a new cordless phone that is just for me, so I want a separate phone number from my family's phone number, but I don't want to buy another phone line, so is there any service or company that would allow me to do this?

  • How did people wake up on time without alarm clocks?

God knows I can barely even wake up with an alarm clock next to my head.

How did people wake up by themselves before alarm clocks?

  • What is the main reason why there is not free nationwide healthcare in the U.S. today?

I know everyone says its because our federal government can't afford it, but why can other governments around the world afford it, like Cuba, a few of the Central American countries, and several countries in Europe as well?

Also, what steps can either American citizens or politicians take to make progress towards such an essential goal?

Oh, and I am asking this mainly because I have been fighting Medicaid for months now to stay eligible for benefits so that I can take my medications, which I really need right now, but it looks like they are going to cut off my benefits soon and there's little I can do to stop them.

  • How can I put a handle on my garage door?

How can I do this without drilling holes in the door?

Is there some kind of adhesive door handle available that would just stick onto the garage door like the common adhesive hooks many people have to hang things on in their homes?

  • For those who pray to God?

Are there any days you just have to take off from it, like when you do something so bad that you just feel you don't have the desire to talk to God about it or you are too ashamed to?

Like yesterday was a really bad day for me and by me, since I said and thought some really bad things, and at the end of the day when I usually pray, I just felt like I was too far away from God because of what I did to pray openly to Him.

Has anyone else had this experience and how did you deal with it?

  • Which do you believe is more important?

    1)The knowledge gained from personal experience;

    2)The knowledge gained from reasoning;

    or 3)They are equally important.

Both types of knowledge have been necessary to grow and develop as a human being, but that gained from personal experience has had a more profound and lasting effect on me.

Please provide reasons to back up your answers.

    Thank you.

  • Is this the biggest difference between atheists and theists?

Based on my own experiences as a Christian who has suffered much in my life, I have come to realize that suffering is the one factor that has brought me closest to God and Christianity, and that without it I may have become an atheist.

Many, perhaps even most of the Christians I have met or heard of in my lifetime have experienced great trials or suffering at on time or another in their lives, and it seems to me that these experiences have brought them closer to God as well.

So I ask, do atheists live lives away from God because they do not suffer enough, or because they can't find any meaning in their suffering, especially in the death of loved ones?

I would like both atheists and theists to give their views and personal experiences in this matter.

    Thank you.

  • Non-Christians, what does the "X" in X-Mas mean?

The term "X-mas" seems like it is becoming more popular even among non-traditional Christians, and is used often by non-Christians to describe the day Christ was born - "Christ"mas, but what does the "X" stand for?

  • Should I workout my upper body and lower body on different days?

Right now I'm trying to determine if focusing on one half of my body exclusively each day gives more results than exercising all parts of my body to different degrees every day.

What has worked for all of you?

btw - I'm not looking to develop a specific body type.

  • What is your opinion on regifting - good, bad, or neutral?

I think it is good because you are saving yourself the trouble of finding someone that perfect gift while also helping out your local economy by not returning your gift but instead giving it to someone who has a better use for it than you.

  • Is the war in Iraq the most criticised and/or debated war in American history?

Seriously, I mean there isn't one day when people aren't being killed there and it's been on the news every single day since it started.

I know the Vietnam War was very similar, but the War in Iraq is the 1st war started in the Information Age, where nearly every American citizen can know almost as much about the war as the soldiers fighting in it.

Furthermore, this may be the most politically divided our country has been in its history (except maybe before and during the Civil War), so I'm wondering if this war has divided our country more than any other U.S. war (again besides the Civil War).

  • What is the most effective natural product for sleep?

I have great trouble sleeping at night due to depression, bad nerves, and maybe something else.

Antipsychotic meds get me to sleep well, but I had major problems when I get off of them, so I want a natural product that I won't get hooked on, have withdrawal symptoms from, and receive maximum results from.

Also, I would prefer to hear from people with personal experience of sleeping problems, and the more severe the better, since mine's pretty severe.

Thanks for any and all help!

  • Can you give 10 good reasons why America is the best nation in the history of humanity?

I can. The following reasons are my own opinion and are not necessarily proven to be true.

1)It is the longest lasting democracy "in the history of civilized humanity."

    2)It has the oldest Constitution " ".

3)It is the most populated democracy " ".

4)It is the only government to successfully separate Church and State " ".

5)It has the most comprehensive and yet flexible Constitution and Bill of Rights " ".

6)It has one of the most, if not the most effective systems of checks and balances " ".

7)It offers more freedoms and protection of those freedoms than most or all governments " ".

8)It has more powerful and inspiring symbols , songs, and icons than any other nation " ".

9)It has both won and avoided more wars than any other nation in the time since its founding, and perhaps even more than any nation " ".

10)It has been and still is one of the most if not the most diverse and yet united nations " ".

  • Which of these 2 events is more important to you?

God bringing you into existence or God sending His only son from heaven to give all humanity the possibility of eternal salvation.

Please include in your answer your reasoning for it.

I'm asking this because I haven't been able to answer this question for myself.

    Thanks in advance.
