My dad and I have the same birthday, and I want to get us something goofy and matching!! He's turning 55 and I'm turning 20, and most of the father-daughter gifts I look up are for newborns (maybe that's a sign... haha). Anyway, any ideas? Thanks!!

A 60. kg student walks off the 10. meter platform at the new swimming complex into the pool below.

a. Determine her Eg at the top of the platform. 5880 J

b. How much Ek does she possess at impact? 5880 J

c. What is her velocity at impact?

For the velocity at impact I used the model Ek=1/2mv^2 and solved for v:

5880=1/2*60*v^2

v=14

but that's not the right answer... what am I doing wrong?

g. If she walked of a platform that was twice as high, how many times greater would be her velocity at impact? x (ratio of v in part g to v in part c)

h. At what height would the platform have to be in order for her velocity to be twice as great? m

i. What is ratio of heights (height in h/ height in c) that doubled the velocity?

A bullet with a mass of 15. g is fired from a rifle with a barrel that is 85 cm long. Assuming that the force exerted by the expanding gas to be a constant 7200 N, what speed would the bullet reach?

I don't even know how to approach this last one. Any help?

How do you do this:

1) A 50 kg box is lifted by a rope a distance of 15 meters straight up at constant speed. How much power is required to complete this task in 8 seconds?

2) Dana and Anthony are two students being considered for a job at the UPS loading dock. Dana boasts that she can lift a 50 kg box 2.0 meters vertically, in 3.0 seconds. Anthony counters with his claim of lifting a 100 kg box 5.0 meters vertically, in 20 seconds.

a) Calculate the alleged power that Dana can generate

b) And the power that Anthony claims he can generate

Also, what are the general formulas needed, so I can do the rest of the problems myself? Thanks! :)

A 55 kg person dives into the water from the 14 m platform.

a)What is her speed as she enters the water? in m/s

b)She comes to a stop 2.5 m below the surface of the water. What average force did the water exert on the swimmer? in Newtons

For part (a) I know that the force of gravity is 9.8 m/s^2 but I have no idea what model to use or where to start.

For part (b) I think you use use mass*acceleration=net force so 55kg * 9.8m/s^2 = 539 N? but I could be wrong.

My little sister put hair gel on my cat's head (she was trying to make a fauxhawk) and now I'm afraid that when he licks it off it will harm him. Of course when I told her this she just got pissed at me and didn't actually clean it off like I asked her to. I tried washing it off with a wet towel and it didn't seem to do much, so what kind of soap should I use? I don't know where my mom keeps the "cat soap," but is regular dove bar soap or castile soap okay?
