  • Is a Sidekick 3 considered a smartphone?

Selling it, and need to make sure I represent it correctly.

    Thanks!

  • How can I tell if my Sidekick 3 is unlocked?

I bought it used, but it was originally made for my carrier (T-Mobile) so I didn't consider to ask if it was unlocked when I bought it. Now that I am going to sell it, I want to be able to tell people whether or not it is unlocked. Does anyone know how I can tell?

  • Wedding Thank you's - Is late better than never?

I am TERRIBLE with thank you notes. My husband and I were married 3 years ago, and I wrote out the thank you notes, but I never mailed them. Would it be in poor taste to mail them now, or is it something that should be done no matter how late they are? What does ettiquette say about this?

  • If today is the 1st time a collection agency calls me, can they begin steps to garnish my wages by tomorrow?

They were very aggressive and told me that I had to come up with $1400 by this Friday. When I told them I would need more time or propsed a payment plan they furiously told me that they would call my place of employment tomorrow and begin garnishment process. Then she hung up on me! Is this legal? I didn't even know the debt existed until 11:00 this morning!

By the way, in case you're wondering, the debt is valid. I had moved and the bills were being sent to an old address for a year and a half, so I never saw them.

  • If a collections agency contacts you, can you just pay the debt to the original creditor instead?

Usually those collections people are aggressive, threatening and unwilling to compromise. Could I just contact my original creditor and work with them instead?

  • What are a debtors rights when dealing with aggressive collection agencies?

I had a collection agency call me today about a debt that I was unaware I owed. Turns out to be a $1400 debt. Apparently the doctor's office had been sending bills to an old address of mine and I wasn't getting them. The collection agent started off calmly enough, if a bit elusive. It was tough to get information from her, but after a heated conversation she agreed to fax me the information. She told me I was being "difficult" when I asked if she could send the info through the mail. When I told her there was no way I would be able to give her the full amount today, that is when she turned on the aggression. She told me that she was doing me a favor, that she was just trying to help me keep this off of my credit report (which I told her that it was my understanding that by the time any debt reached a collection agency it would have already been reported to the credit bureau - but she insisted that it hadn't hit my credit report yet). She said if I would come up with the money by the 29th (of August or September, I'm not sure which, but my guess is August. Yay for giving me 2 days to come up with it) then they would settle for a 20% discount. I told her that I would need to set up a payment plan, to which she fiercely replied "We are not a lending institution, we are a collections agency!" I'm guessing that she was trying to say there will be no payment arangements. Then she went on to tell me that I had to let her know by the end of the day how I would be paying. I told her that I still needed the documents (which she hadn't sent yet) before I could commit to anything. For all I knew, she was just someone trying to scam me for my money. I guess that ticked her off. She started raising her voice saying things like "I'm trying to help you!" "If you don't agree to 20% discount, the full balance is due immediately!" "I'm trying to talk! Quit interrupting me!" (when in actuality she was the one who interrupted everything I said, trying to force payment out of me right then and there) I told her that I was sensing aggression and that I did not like that. I told her that I will make no decisions without documentation. She then took my fax number and said she'd fax it.

I don't doubt that the debt is valid. It is. But in looking at the document she faxed to me, it is clear that they just received the account this morning (she faxed me the doctor's office itemized list, which show the "Statement history as of 08/26/08"...yep, that's today!

So, do I have any rights here? I just found out about this thing today. They just received the account today. I certainly don't have $1400 (or even $1000 which is the discounted amount) laying around. There is no way I can even come up with it in the time frame she has asked. Isn't there anyway that I can make payments on something like this? Do I have to accept their terms? Can't I offer up any terms of my own? What are you supposed to do when they become aggressive and threatening? What are my rights?

  • Is Hell exothermic or endothermic?

The following is (supposedly) an actual question given on a University of Washington chemistry mid-term exam. The answer by one student was so "profound" that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well:

    Bonus Question:

Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant thereof.

One student, however, wrote the following:

First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So, we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving.

I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving.

As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different Religions that exist in the world today. Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions, and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially.

Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.

    This gives two possibilities:

    1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.

    2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.

    So which is it?

If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that, "it will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you," and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number 2 must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen

    over.

The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct...leaving only Heaven thereby proving the existence of a divine being which explains why, last night, Teresa kept shouting "Oh my God."

  • THE MIRACLE OF TOILET PAPER?

    THE MIRACLE OF TOILET PAPER

Fresh from my shower, I stand in front of the mirror complaining to my husband that my breasts are too small. Instead of characteristically telling me it's not so, he uncharacteristically comes up with a suggestion. 'If you want your breasts to grow, then every day take a piece of toilet paper and rub it between them for a few seconds.'

Willing to try anything, I fetch a piece of toilet paper and stand in front of the mirror, rubbing it between my breasts. 'How long will this take?' I asked. 'They will grow larger over a period of years,' my husband replies. I stopped. 'Do you really think rubbing a piece of toilet paper between my breasts every day will make my breasts larger over the years?'

Without missing a beat he says, 'Worked for your butt, didn't it?'

  • Hehe! Here's a cute joke!? (star if you like!)?

Two brooms were hanging in the closet and after a while they got to know

each other so well, they decided to get married.

One broom was, of course, the bride broom, the other the groom broom.

The bride broom looked very beautiful in her white dress. The groom broom

was handsome and suave in his tuxedo. The wedding was lovely.

After the wedding, at the wedding dinner, the bride-broom leaned over and

said to the groom-broom, "I think I am going to have a little whisk broom!!!"

"IMPOSSIBLE !!" said the groom broom.

    Are you ready for this?

Brace yourself; this is going to hurt.

  • The Old Poodle - cute joke!?

A wealthy old lady decides to go on a photo

safari in Africa, taking her faithful aged poodle

named Cuddles, along for the company.

One day the poodle starts chasing butterflies

and before long, Cuddles discovers that he's

lost. Wandering about, he notices a leopard

heading rapidly in his direction with the intention

    of having lunch.

The old poodle thinks, "Oh, oh! I'm in deep

doo-doo now!" Noticing some bones on the

ground close by, he immediately settles down

to chew on the bones with his back to the

approaching cat. Just as the leopard is about

to leap the old poodle exclaims loudly, "Boy,

that was one delicious leopard! I wonder if

there are any more around here?"

Hearing this, the young leopard halts his attack

in mid-strike, a look of terror comes over him

and he slinks away into the trees. "Whew!",

says the leopard, "That was close! That old

    poodle nearly had me!"

    Meanwhile...

  • How many different religions acknowledge the existence of Satan?

I was just thinking about some of the answers I see on here and people who claim either Satan does exist, he doesn't exist, or they actually are 'Satanists'. It made me wonder how many religions actually acknowledge him?

  • Do you ever feel so much stress and anxiety that you wonder if there is any hope of peace?

The stress I feel is so overwhelming. We have to move by the end of the month, we have no money, the economy is crashing so badly that my stock (which is our only hope financially) is all but worthless, my marraige is garbage, I have so much to do and there isn't any time to do it in, I can't even focus at work. I try to rely on my faith, but I must admit, it is growing very weak. I need to see a silver lining, but I can't. What is a person supposed to do? I honestly feel like I'm losing my mind. I want to scream and throw things around and run away...but obviously I cannot do any of those things. What good would it do anyway?

  • If you are adopted, have you searched out your birth parents?

Were you glad you did, or did you wish you hadn't? Were you happy or disappointed with what you found?

I am trying to decide if I should search my birth mother out. She gave my sister and I up for adoption when we were 6 & 7 years old. I remember her and have often wondered where she is and how she is doing. I have her social security # because it was on my original birth certificate, which I got a copy of when my sister and I were still in foster care for a memory book thing our social worker had us make.

Honestly I am scared to find her because I'm afraid that I will be diappointed in what I find. She wasn't a very fit parent and she made so many poor decisions while we lived with her that it really was best that she gave us up for adoption. We were adopted by wonderful people and when I think of my 'parents', it is my adoptive parents that I think of and love the absolute most. I am fiercely loyal to them, but I worry about my birth mother and want to know that she's OK.

  • Are you adopted? Have you ever searched out your birth parents? Have you ever adopted your children out?

If so, how did that turn out? Were you glad you did, or did you wish you hadn't? Did you know your birth parents when you were young, or were you adopted as infants?

My sister and I were adopted when we were 8 and 9 years old, respectively. We lived with our birth mother until we were 6 and 7 years old before we were given up for adoption. It was by far the best decision she could have ever made. Our adoptive parents are wonderful and neither of us would never change the outcome of our situation. I'm 30 years old now and have not seen my birth mother for 23 years. Now that I am a mother myself I've been giving thought to finding her. There are a lot of questions I have and I am curious about how she is. I am not angry with her and I would like to see that she is doing OK. Admittedly, though, I am scared. Any insights or advice on this?

On the flip side, has any one out there given up children for adoption? Would you want for them to seek you out? Why or why not?
