  • My son is almost 3 & 1/2 and refuses to go potty still - help?

He is perfectly healthy and incredibly bright and he's not going to fall for bribery or the usual tricks lol. He is physically fine there is no reason in that department he can't do it. He has sit on the potty and is not afraid of it - he even went one time almost a year ago. We fussed over him and let him pick out a toy at the store thinking it would encourage him to keep going and he has flat refused since.

We've tried talking to him, reasoning with him and he just smiles and it's his way to have control and we recognize that. (he's other than this a fairly easy going child though and doesn't argue very often or refuse to do other things like pick up toys etc. )

I've tried everything I have read in all kinds of books. We have watched movies about it over and over like Elmo's potty time and others. My oldest son was just over 3 when he finally went. This one is going to be in college I guess - sigh.

Any advice or tricks from others who have EXPERIENCE with hard to potty train little ones?

  • insurance - best process for having my roof repaired from storm damage?

talked to the insurance adjuster and she said they can send an "approved contractor" out to just do the work and bill me for the deductible amount only - OR I can call my own roofers and they will send our an appraiser.

I have an older roof so is it in my best financial interest to try to get my own contractor or go with the one AAA wants to provide me? I want to be sure it's repaired right and that if need be the roof is replaced as 70mph winds took my shingles off down to bare wood in two places.

  • Another kids babysitter picks on my son at the bus stop suggestions?

My son is nine years old in 3rd grade. In the mornings another lady escorts a kindergartner she babysits to the bus stop. One day my son walked in front of this boy - did not push or shove him or anything just being careless walked in front of him and this woman pulled him by the back of his shirt and raised her voice to him.

After that my partner walked my son to the bus stop every day and this woman avoided him like the plague and she never got near my son again. Today my sons grandma took him to the bus instead of us and this woman raised her voice to my son and told him she would pull on his shirt again if he cut in line.

I am going up there tomorrow to deal with her myself. I don't want to create a scene in front of the kids but this woman needs to know that she is NOT allowed to put her hands on or bully other people's children in the morning. I do not know her name or the little boys parents she babysits for. Any suggestions on how to handle it?

The angry part of me wants to snap on her but the rational part of me that wants to be a good influence says to talk to her calmly and civilized - of course any grown woman who threatens 3rd graders is probably not very civilized to begin with...

What's the best way to proceed?

  • Why was my question removed that didn't violate any rules?

I asked an honest question about some help with ideas for a business plan for a thrift/consignment shop I want to open - and my question was deleted! Why? I don't understand why legitimate questions by decent, regularly contributing members get deleted for no reason. I am done with Yahoo Answers - there are many MANY better places I have found to ask real questions and get intelligent answers anyway.

  • my 10 week old does this strange thing while nursing - why?

Ok so the past week or so my bub is doing something odd. He latches on great (has since birth) nurses for a minute then starts pulling really hard and moving his head back and forth like he's trying to tear it off and take it with him lol... We've tried changing positions and all sorts of things but he still keeps doing it. He does it for a bit then lets go and relatches. I can hear he's swallowing and everything and I don't think I have a forceful letdown it's not like he's choking or anything... it's just a quirky little behavior and I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to why he may be doing it? It's making the tissue under my nipples kind of sore from the constant latching and relatching and pulling thing.

I pumped and I have a good supply I get a few ounces out with the pump so I am kind of perplexed what may be causing him to do it. He does it at every feeding during the daytime... strange huh?? He just started doing it also so I don't think its nipple confusion because he's almost 10 weeks old and has been drinking from the same kind of bottle since birth when I work... I'm out of ideas anyone else have any?

    Thanks for all your help!

  • He's finally here hooray!

I had my Nathan on August 4th after 5 days of on again off again labor lol. We enjoyed the tub for labor but I didn't end up giving birth in the water as I found my body temperature was rising and I was better able to focus outside of the water. The tub is HIGHLY recommended for laboring though as it helps with those painful transition contractions.

I had a great midwife and this birth although more difficult when it came to pushing was much more pleasant than my first birth experience. This baby came out alert and wide eyed! I was not delirious on drugs and I am healing very nicely after perenial massage vs episiotomy. I had an episiotomy with baby number one and it took weeks to not feel discomfort. I was literally walking around in 3 hours after Nathan's birth and just a little stiff no pain.

Not a question just wanted to update everyone :) Good luck ladies and enjoy the rest of your pregnancies!!!

  • so discouraged has this happened to anyone else on a 2nd baby?

Ok so my first son was born 9 years ago today as a matter of fact and with him I had a long labor - but I stayed in labor and had him after 24 hours.

Yesterday I went into labor with son number 2 - or so I thought. The contractions came on naturally by themselves, were consistently less than 6 minutes apart and got to 3 minutes apart and were lengthening and getting stronger and after 14 hours completely stopped. I spent from 2 in the afternoon until 4am this morning having progressive contractions and nothing....

My midwife insists this can be natural and that I should start up again but she's having me come in for a sweep today after I get a nap in to see if that will help me progress. I have a water birth planned and so if she does pitocin I can't do the tub birth so we are going to keep trying to do this with no help but after 14 hours of that to just stop has me in tears and very frustrated .... Has anyone else had a labor just literally stop on a second child?

  • just for fun - when am I going to have this baby?? any guesses?

I am 37 weeks. At my last appointment I was only 1cm dilated but the cervix is very soft and starting to thin out. My first baby was born on his due date.

I have been having braxton hicks contractions fairly regularly and I work still so I am on my feet quite a bit and walking and such. the baby's head is very low "right there" to use the words of my midwife ;) and I have had some nesting urges kicking in periodically the past few days as well as intense mood swings and weepiness I haven't had until recently...

So based on all that anyone want to guess when I'll have this baby? I am saying July 28.

  • nearing due date overwhelmed with emotions, nightmares etc. 2nd child anyone relate to this?

I am due aug 2nd but probably will not go that long as I've been having strong braxton hicks, cervix is soft etc. All the sudden I feel panicked. I was having nightmares last night, woke up in tears this morning (not like me at all even with hormones lol) I am suddenly feeling very overwhelmed and like the world is just piling up on me. I should be feeling joy and excitement and that is being drowned with worries. I am just now expanding our business. My older son is about to have his 9th birthday and he is still not happy about this baby - our finances have been less than ideal this year... I just feel like I"m suffocating under the weight all the sudden. I have so much going on owning my own business its hard to let go and I feel like a newborn is going to be so stifling all the sudden... I was happy and felt confident til today now I feel like I can't possibly do this. I want to cry all day but there is too much to do lol.... anyone else feel like this at the very end?

  • For Doulas or those with experience with a Doula?

I am interested in becoming a Doula and have been looking at DONA and weighing the pros and cons of it. I would love to hear the personal experiences of those of you who are Doulas or who have hired a Doula and what you thought of the experience.

For those who are Doulas is it hard to get established? Do you find most people have no idea what the heck you are talking about when you say you want to be a Doula? lol. My mother is a nurse and she had no idea what one was when I mentioned it. I think it would be very rewarding, but I also have to be practical. I have a family to feed as well. Any advice or experiences very much appreciated!

  • how was labor different with your 2nd baby than your first? earlier or later? easier?

I am getting close to due with baby number 2 and was wondering what others experiences were. What was the difference for you between baby one and baby two? Did you feel more confident going into labor? Was your labor a lot shorter? Was one birth experience better than the other?

I know with my first I had a HORRIBLE labor & delivery - the pregnancy was difficult also with hyperemesis all 9 months. This time it's been a cake walk 9 years later :) and I am opting for a natural water birth and I personally feel a little nervous but much more confident and in control of the experience than I did previously.

Just wondering about others experiences :)

  • What is wrong with my refrigerator? Freezer works and fridge is warm but running?

I woke up this morning opened my fridge and it was room temperature. The dial is set to a coolest setting, the freezer is frozen and running. The fan underneath is also running. Any ideas on how to fix this? I am 8 months pregnant and can't afford to run out and buy a new one right now :(

It is a Frigidaire and is only 4 or 5 years old.

  • I hate the other partner at my midwife's practice what should I do in case of emergency?

So today I met with the second doctor at my midwife's practice. The rules are you have to meet each doc one time just incase the midwife wouldn't be available. The first doctor was very sweet and told us he'd abide by our wishes (we are doing a water birth in the hospital)

Today we met the other doctor for the first time and he is such an A**! He walked in didn't even acknowledge my partner and walks up to me and says "Just so you know if Kelly isn't availalbe there will be no water birth". and he was rude to all of my questions. At one point I asked about the swelling not going down in my ankle and he shrugged his shoulder at me rather than answer my question. He was very rude and said things "well it sounds like you have a very specific plan for what you want but I won't do anything that I am not comfortable with if I am delivering you" ... he kept shuffling side to side, almost rolling his eyes... If this guy is on duty and my midwife is not available what I am going to do?

  • Has anyone else had a 4D ultrasound done electively? I did and wow how cool!?

I would definitely recommend this as a gift to your family. A lot of places do them and you can have your family come in and they sit in a living room looking area and can view it on a big screen... it was the most moving experience and we got to see what little bubs looks like - now I totally can't wait for him to get here. I have clips from ours :) what a great experience! I think it helps the whole family bond with baby. Anyone else do this and what did you think of it?

  • How to get this baby out of my ribs? He's really wedged up in there ouch!?

Any suggestions on how to get him to cooperate? The first part of my pregnancy was so nice he was down low and much less discomfort.

He moved a couple of weeks ago and now he is trying to lay side to side and he is in my ribs. Both sides of my ribcage are constantly aching. The only time I get relief is when I do yoga or stretching which I can't do constantly. Any ways to encourage a side to side bub to go back up and down? I can deal with hands/feet in the ribs not his back and butt - ouch!

  • Easily sunburned during pregnancy?

I was out yesterday for a little while and never burn, but all the sudden this time the tops of my hands and wrists and forehead are so sunburned they are probably going to blister ... ouch!

Anyone heard of sunburning easily during pregnancy or photosensitivity because of pregnancy hormones or what would be making this so bad in such a strange area?
