  • Why is my three year old waking up in the night and what can I do about it?

We transitioned my daughter to a big girl bed about two months ago - she wasn't sleeping as well in it as she was in her crib but she eventually started sleeping through the night again. Now suddenly she is waking up multiple times a night and wanting to b e cuddled back to sleep - she doesn't actually climb out of the bed and come into our room, she just yells and cries until one of us comes. If it's after 4:30am then we sometimes just bring her into our bed for the last few hours of sleep. It's getting worse and worse - it was just one wake-up a night but now it's multiple times - last night she was awake at 11:30, 1:30 and 3:30am and finally we just gave up and brought her into bed with us. We don't want her sleeping with us every night because she is a totally restless sleeper but what can we do about this??? She used to be such a good sleeper - we did "Cry it out: with her at six months and she has been sleeping through the night ever since...now this!! Why? What can we do about it???

  • What can I do to get my three year old to poo?

My daughter has been totally potty trained for over 2 months now - suddenly out of nowhere she had a very hard, painful poo and now she is petrified to go poo...she is literally writing around on the floor sometimes in pain because she needs to go so badly. She hasn't pooed since the day before yesterday and is clearly in agony - every time I put her on the potty she freaks out and starts bawling and refuses to go....I have been feeding her everything I can think of to loosen her up...fruit, high-fibre vegetables, bean soup, oatmeal....what the hell is going on here and what can I do to help her? I am getting so frustrated with her and at the same time I am worried and feel sorry for her...I would welcome any suggestions!!!

  • Potty Training Advice?

So I am on Day 2 of potty training. My daughter is 2 1/2 and I am allowing her to walk around naked from the waist down and staying home all day so that we can nail this down. I have been bribing her with smarties and she is obviously milking it by doing a series of very small pees to get the smarties. My problem is this - she will happily pee for me if I put her on the pottie, but she won't voluntarily go and sit on it if she needs to pee. I have been throwing her on there every 30-40 minutes if it's been a while since she peed...but she doesn't seem to have any concept of having to go and use it if she needs to go - she'll just pee all over herself...how do you help them to recognize when they need to go....? Advice??? I need help....

  • Should I be freaked out about getting pregnant again?

I should proceed this by saying that we have a healthy 2 1/2 year old daughter - We got pregnant the first time we tried with her and it was a problem free pregnancy. So we are desperate for her to have a sibling - I had a miscarriage at 6 weeks in December. Then I got pregnant right away again at the end of January and everything seemed to be progressing fine. At 11 weeks I had a nuchal translucency Ultrasound and the results were not good. They gave me a 1 in 9 chance of Downs. I had a CVS diagnostic test done and it came back positive for Downs and on top of that they said the baby had a `major heart condition` which would likely mean the baby would not live past a few weeks. So my husband and I chose to terminate the pregnancy. I am devastated but I felt like I had no other choice under the circumstances - My daughter had to be my first priority. They have told me to wait several months before I try again but I don`t know if I can put myself through that again - I was almost four months pregnant and now I am back to square one. I am 36 and healthy - what are the chances of this happening again? Do you think it was just bad luck?

  • Nuchal Translucency test came back with terrible score, how badly should I be freaking out?

So I am 11 wks 5 days pregnant and had a nuchal translucency Ultrasound yesterday. My Doctor called me to say that my test results "were not positive at all" and that they had determined that this baby has a 1 in 9 chance of Down Syndrome and a 1 in 180 chance of trisomy 18. She told me that she could try to get me in for a CVS test next week which would have to be done before 13 weeks which would confirm if the baby has Downs or not - but because of the short notice she wasn't sure if she could get me that test or not (and I won't know until Tuesday because it's a long weekend now). So if I can't get that test I have to wait until I am past 15 weeks to get an amnio and then the results will take another 2-3 weeks.....My sister went through something similar only in her case it was blood work that had given her 1 in 20 odds and then it turned out to be fine - But it was my understanding that a nuchal translucency test was far more accurate than blood work. I realize this is totally out of my control and I should try not to totally freak out - does anyone have anything positive to say about this situation...? Any happy endings with odds this bad?

  • Could I get pregnant if I had sex yesterday and had a positive ovulation test result today?

My husband and I are trying to get pregnant but I thought I would be ovulating on Monday (the 25th) and he was leaving on a business trip last night (the 22nd) - But right before he left yesterday I seemed to be having ovulation symptoms (yolky discharge etc...sorry too much information I know) so I made him put out before he left...then today I took an ovulation test and it was positive - which I guess means I'll be ovulating in the next 24 hours....I know sperm can live a few days - what do you think the chances are?

  • Anyone ever heard of a new born baby having croup?

My sister's daughter is only 10 days old - she seems to have had a cold since she was about 4 or 5 days old - lots of congestion and runny nose. She took her to mid-wife clinic and the mid-wife said she should keep an eye on her and take her to emergency if she gets worse - she is still feeding well but seems quite stuffed up -especially at night. I was just over there and she coughed a few times and it was that very distinctive seal-like barking cough like my daughter had when she had the croup. She now has a call in to the doctor about it but I'm worried because I think it is quite unusual for a baby so young to get the croup - anyone else know of a brand new baby getting sick like this?

  • Just had a miscarriage - do I really have to wait to conceive again?

I had a miscarriage at 6 weeks - it was nothing too dramatic - just like a heavy period and a bit of cramping. My doctor said that I should wait until I have a regular period again before we try to conceive again...just wondered if there was anyone out there who has conceived immediately after a miscarriage....? I have hear that sometimes you are at your most fertile right after a miscarriage - was wondering if there is really a risk to trying to conceive right away....I have a two year old daughter and want my next one to be close in age...since my miscarriage happened so early on I guess I just don't understand why I'd have to wait to conceive again...Anyone have an opinion on this?

  • Am I having a miscarriage?

Ok so this is my second pregnancy - I already have a two year old daughter and when I was pregnant with her I definitely had a little bit of spotting in my first trimester...just a little bit of blood in my underwear on one or two occasions and it was all fine. Tonight I noticed that when I wiped there was some blood....a little more than I remember from the last time but certainly nothing as heavy as a period - but each time I have gone to the bathroom there has been some pinkish brown blood...it's still not heavy by any means and I don't have any cramping or anything but I am a bit worried because it seems like there is a bit more blood than last time...anyone have any thoughts on this? Obviously I will go to the Doctor tomorrow if it persists or gets worse, but in the meantime anyone have any advice? Anyone who has had a miscarriage know if this is sometimes how it starts?

  • On synthroid and just stopped taking my birth control pills...anyone?

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism shortly after having my daughter two years ago and was put on synthroid. I started taking birth control again right after I stopped breast feeding when my daughter was a year old - so I have been on synthroid and the pill simultaneously for just over a year. I want to get pregnant again so I just stopped taking my birth control pills but I am still on the synthroid (which my doctor says is totally safe for pregnant women) - I took my last one about 10 days ago. In the last few days I have had the craziest itchy skin and I'm exhausted and moody...is it possible that maybe stopping the pill has effected my thyroid levels...? or maybe this is just a reaction to stopping the pill....Anyone out there have experience with this?

  • I need a good camera with no delay when you press the button...?

I want to buy a new digital camera that takes great pictures and doesn't have that stupid delay that my current camera has between when you press the button and when the picture is actually taken....I have a Canon Powershot A75 - it's totally outdated, the pictures are sort of crappy - what I want is a small, quick camera that takes really clear pictures with no delay. Recommendations?

  • Could a lower dosage of synthroid really make me feel THIS bad?

I was diagnosed with post-partum hypothyroidism about a year ago. I was originally on 50 milligrams of synthroid but then my doctor upped my dosage to 75 milligrams because I was still lacking in energy. I felt great on the higher dosage and my blood work was good but I was having some sort of weird heart palpitations so after a few months she lowered my dosage again to see if the racing heart would stop...It's been six weeks now and I just did some more bloodwork but I haven't had the results yet - but the last six weeks I've had way worse symptoms than before I was on any medication - muscle aches, chronic fatigue, anxiety....it also seems like I've had a headache almost every day all day for the entire six weeks....do you seriously think this could all be from a slightly lower dosage of synthroid...? Any one else have thoughts on this?

  • What would be considered cool clothes for a fourth grader?

My daughter has been getting picked on in school and I'd like to do whatever I can to make sure she fits in with the other kids...what are the right places to shop and cool things to wear in the world of 9 year olds? Anyone?

  • How can my fourth grade neice make friends in school?

My sister is very worried because her daughter seems to have no friends at school. She plays by herself at lunch and sometimes even goes and hangs out with her little brother. My sister has tried to talk to her about it a lot and encourage her to invite girls over etc.. but she seems totally unresponsive...she also seems to clam up whenever kids approach her. The teacher asked my sister if she wants to send her to a counselor because she has noticed that it's become such a big problem...she's such a cute social kid outside of school that it seem so weird the other kids don't seem to want anything to do with her. Any suggestions? What can her Mom do to help reverse this before it ends up following her all through school...?

  • Who else thinks the whole Prop 8 thing is an outrage?

I can not believe that the rights of homosexuals to marry was ever put to a vote - It seems totally insane to me that every moron out there should have a say in whether or not strangers should have the right to marry one another...why is it anyone's business???? I think it's completely unethical to have the majority making decisions on the behalf of a minority. It infuriates me that all these bloody Politicans are sitting there saying that gays deserve equal rights but then refuse to say they should be able to marry...Are they equal or not? If you truly believe they are equal then they should be able to marry just like the rest of us!

  • Why would anyone vote for McCain?

After the last 8 years under Bush, and with McCain offering no new solutions to the economic problems why wouldn't people want to give someone else a chance to change this country for the better. The so-called Maverick has supported every economic decision that Bush has made....Why would we want to continue on this same path?

  • Hey Christians....! How come you are so up in arms about Obama's tax plan?

I can't for the life of me understand why all these right-wing Conservatives who pretend to be so consumed with "family values" and the Church could possibly object to Obama's tax plan. Isn't the message of Christ that those with a lot should help those with a little....??? And the truly ridiculous part is that I would suspect very few of you make over $250,000 a year so having Obama in power would actually benefit you....It is standard for governments to tax people more if they have higher incomes...all he'd be doing is returning the top earners to the pre-Bush tax levels...it's hardly the "socialist" agenda that McCain is trying to label it. People are so stupid!
