You might find me around the fish section quite often. I've spent a lot of time researching the hobby. If you have any questions that I feel I can answer, I usually do. Don't expect me to answer salt water aquarium questions, however. I haven't made it that far as of yet.

  • College schedule question?

During my college orientation the other day I had my schedule all figured out. Until I learned that I had to take five classes, that is. So the person helping me switched one of my classes and put a new one in. That other class was bumped to the end of the day on Monday and Wednesday.

On Thursday I have a biology class. After biology I had to have a bio lab class. I had it figured out so I would have biology first and right after I'd have the lab. They were to be with the same teacher as well. I didn't realize at the time but my bio lab was changed by the person who added my new class to be before biology in the same day and now I have a different teacher.

I'm not sure I'd like that, but I've never had classes before so I don't know if that would be a good idea.

  • Bees flying in one area by the ground?

We've had some sort of bee in our driveway for a while. We could never quite find their hive, though, and they have never bothered us. But now that it's warm the bees have moved. Only they aren't in such an out of the way spot any more. They are right in the middle of the place where my dog goes potty at. I assume they're trying to make a new hive. Is it too late to discourage them from staying there? How should I get them to move?

  • Ford Taurus shaking randomly?

Four times now, over the past few months, my 2000 Ford Taurus has been (seemingly randomly) going though bouts of shaking.

It's only a light shaking at speeds of 35mph and slower, nothing overly concerning. But once you push it up to 45 and 55 it starts to shake pretty violently. Hard enough that I'm forced to pull over and stop or risk being thrown around by the shaking.

Slowing down helps. Letting your foot off the gas reduces the shaking to manageable (enough to get me home, at least) but once it starts shaking I've found that you need to hit the brake to get it to not shake as bad. Otherwise, just letting my foot off the gas slows the shaking but if you push back down on the gas (no matter the speed) it'll start violently shaking again.

This only occurs once in a while. I've tried shutting the car off and turning it back on but that didn't help any.

So, any clues or experience with similar problems?

  • What counts as "spam" on Answers?

The last three questions I visited was answered by the same person with the same answer "dfdf." Is that spam? Can I flag them to make the stop? I've seen a lot of people doing this recently and it is quite annoying to see. My guess is they are just trying to get the 2 points from answering questions...

    Which is worse?

    Tiger barbs

    Skirt tetra (black, white)

    or Serpae tetra?

All kept in a decent school, of course.

And I'm just curious here as to what others think.

  • Spider identification (black widow??)?

I found a spider in my basement. It was a small black spider. The normal ones are just house spiders not black ones. I took a closer look and noticed markings on its back. It has a shape like a black widow but the markings on its back were a dull yellow color not red. I did some research. I didn't want to kill a spider that wouldn't hurt me and then decided to spray it down with some raid ant and roach killer. It worked alright and within a few minutes it was dead. I then took a magnifying glass to it.

I'd say it looks a lot like the spider in this picture but the markings were not red but yellow. It has the same colored legs and body style.

Any ideas? I plan on getting it preserved. I have it frozen for now. It has lost a little of its color but it's not drying out any.

Ideas? Was this a widow. I live in Michigan if it is any help. I've heard they are common up here but not seen too often.

  • What kind of spider is this?

Found this little guy in a swampy area while hiking down a trail. It's as white as can be, but none of the guides I can find list any spider even close to what this is.

I found it in North West Michigan, if it's any help. I believe I've seen a picture of it before in a guide while I was bored and looking though one, but I just can't seem to find any good leads on it.

I'm amazed that I didn't immediately turn around and walk away considering that I was just bit by a spider a few days ago and the thought is still fresh in my mind. Had it been any other spider I wouldn't have stuck around long enough to get a picture... Or, maybe it's not a spider... I don't know...

Here's a link to the picture I have of it: https://flic.kr/p/ocZKsZ

  • How to help a very stressed fish settle in?

Hello! I just got a new fish from a friend but it appears the shipping process was a little much for the poor guy. He's floating on his side and just laying on the bottom gasping. I spent well over an hour adapting him to my quarantine tank's water (put him in a bucket with his old water and slowly combine tank water and the old water.) My quarantine tank is cycled and has no ammonia in it. While in his bucket, he was laying on the bottom. His color seems to have returned slightly, but not much at all. Is there anything I can do? I have some aquarium salt, MelaFix, PrimaFix, and some Ich Cure that I can add if need be (as in, it might help.) I have the lights off and the filter turned down for now. He's the only fish in the tank.

Anything I can do? He's not floating so I don't think he's devoloped swim badder due to stress yet. I don't expect him to make it, though, but any help would be appreciated.

  • Betta with ick and fin rot?

I got a betta a few days ago. He came down with ick and I was forced to medicate his tank (which, by the way, is a 2.5 gallon, well planted tank with daily 25% water changes.)

After the 4 day medicating period, I realized after I had done a water change that he had come down with fin rot. I have very fine pebbles in the bottom of the tank, but I don't think that would have done it. It has no decorations other than the live plants.

After I noticed that, I put 1/4 of a teaspoon of MelaFix in the tank to help. I did do a water test and it came back with no ammonia, nitrite, and safe numbers of nitrate. Today, he's lost most of his back fins and appears to have ick once again.

So, should I try the medication again? It's really hard to tell how much of it to put in the tank because it is a powder that comes in a packet...

Any opinions? He was just kind of dumped on me so I put him in the only tank I had available which was my planted tank...

  • Blurry vision in left eye while wearing contacts?

I wear my contacts every day. Sometimes, though, it seems like my left eye begins to get blurrier and blurrier all the time. I have astigmatism in my right eye so the right contact is thicker than the other but it doesn't really bother me...

Anyway, whenever I notice blurriness in my left eye, I take the contact out and look at it. It's always dirty, somehow, inside of the lens. In fact, when I took it out and cleaned it earlier today, it was clear for only a couple of hours before the blurriness is back. I really noticed the difference as I was driving home earlier due to the glare of the road signs from the headlights of my car.

Anyone know what can be done to help keep this lens clean or have an idea on how it's getting dirty under it like that? I am due for a contact change in the next few days.

I take them out every night and change them every 15th of the month. I've never left them in for more than 18 hours straight...

    Any ideas?

  • Anyone know these songs?

They are multiple songs by the same artist that go togther and kind of tell a story... I'm wondering the name of them. I can't even remember the words but the video to the stories are unforgettable.

Seems like it starts of as this guy just comes home from a war and is paralyzed from the waste down and in a wheelchair. He goes home, some thing happen, and he's sitting on a dock with his wife/ woman he loves. One of them drops something, she bends down to grab it, falls, hits her head on the dock, and drowns. She had been carrying or just had a kid. The man names the kid after the woman who died. I think there's more, but I can't be sure. Again, I'm pretty sure that this is over the course of several songs.

Anyone know the artist and name of the songs???

  • Ick in two tanks, only one heater?

Hi... Well, long story here. I'll shorten it up, though.

Bought 2 mollies, 2 pictus catfish.

3 (both pictus and one molly) came down with ick and died. I had tried to treat it, but I caught it too late and the heat didn't work at all.

Just before she died, one molly had babies. She died soon after. About a week or so later, I turned the heat down. (It had been at 88.)

I'd had no problems. But, I had noticed my black female that didn't get it was hanging around the filter. The tank was unlighted and I didn't see anything off.

Today, I bought 4 tiger barbs for one of my other tanks and filled up my last 10 gallon for a quarantine tank and moved the heater that had been with the mollies into the tiger's tank, hoping to catch the ick that I knew they had because fish from the store had it before they got sick.

I finally managed to find a plug for the light, and, surprise, surprise, my black molly has ick...

Now what? I only have one filter small enough for a 10 gallon tank. Do I risk putting the semi-aggressive tiger barbs with my mollies to treat them all? Or, do I attempt to treat the molly tank first? I know they have ick in the tiger tank for sure because I put decorations from the molly tank into the tiger's tank. The current created by my too big filter is a little much for the fish if I don't put something in there to break it up...

None of the barbs are very large.

Which color do you like the best?

I'm getting endler's livebearers for the small tank that I'm starting. It's well planted and will have an air pump along with frequent 25% water changes to help keep it clean due to the lack of filter on this tank.

Now, I have a choice of three different colored endlers that I can buy. I'm just not sure how I want the tank to look. My question is, which of these three fish do you think would be best to buy.

    The choices are:

    Male

    Green Cobra Male

    or

    Red Flame Male.

Liveaquaria does not have the Black Diamond Male available and I don't want females as the tank's a little small to support such a large fish.

You can choose 3 fish. Either one of each, Male only, green cobra male only, red flame male only, or a mixture of the fish.

    Thanks for your input!

  • When is the best time to give a husky a bath?

Our husky (we had to give her to some friends for a few years due to housing rules) is filthy. She needs a bath but it's still quite cold here in Michigan. When would be the best time to give her a bath? We don't want to give her one when it is cold out so she doesn't get too cold when she goes out due to her double coat, but she really does need one. Her belly (which should be white) is brown and gray and her fur is really bad looking.

Anyone know when we should give it a go? Maybe a minimum outdoor temperature?

  • Simple fix to make laptop battery work again?

I just got it back in November and the battery has already quite on me... It's only been a couple of months. Anyway, it is still under warrenty but I don't know if they would replace my battery or not.

    Anyway, here's what's going on:

I plug it in, it shows it is charging for about 5 seconds and then the indicator light changes to blue saying that it is fully charged. I've done mulitple series of shutting down, unplugging the charger, taking out the battery, plugging the charger back in, turning it back on again, uninstalling complaint control and restarting. Nothing works.

I have noticed that even when the laptop is off and unplugged the blue light will still randomly turn on.

There's nothing at all wrong with my cord. If there was, I wouldn't be able to use it like I am right now.

When I do a battery test with the HP help adviser program, I get a response of

    Primary Battery

The batter is reporting a failure and needs to be replaced as soon as possible. Your battery may be covered by your HP Warranty. Please contact HP.

So, anyone else had an experience like this? It is an HP laptop, touchscreen, model # 14-109 wm.

Anything else I could try before I attempt to get it replaced?

  • Catfish staying in top corner of tank?

I think it might be because of the water temperature, but I can't be sure...

Anyway, the tank has ick. I've always had good luck by catching it quickly and raising the water up to 86 or 88 degrees. But, I was away from home and wasn't able to watch the temperature to make sure it was staying steady at such levels. I came home and found two fish nearly dead from the ick, one unaffected, and another two with a lot of spots on them. I did a 50% water change and got the temperature where it should be but, my pictus catfish (who normally stays on the bottom, hidden, is hanging in a corner of the tank, face up toward the top of the tank, and belly toward the glass. It's pushing itself up toward the surface. It's been doing this all day long and I'm starting to worry.

    What should I do?

  • Ick in tank with pictus and mollies?

I'm just asking for some other opinions, I guess.

I have two pictus catfish and three mollies in my quarantine tank. It is about 4x over filtered though use of a sponge filter. It is heated. I have a divider in place to sperate the pictus from the mollies after the pictus ate the tail on my guppy that had been in the tank. (The guppy later died.)

Anyway, I had to leave for several days (Friday until today). On Friday I had noticed two or three ick spots on one of my mollies. I turned the heater up as far as I dared and left my mother with both verbal and written instuctions to check on it and adjust the heater if necissary.

I didn't mention anything else to her, I thought it would be simple enough to do.

When I got home earlier, this is what I found:

Fish food all over the floor by the tank (the tank sits on the floor.) Fish food in the filter of the tank. Something black and rotting on the other side of the tank.

I looked closer at the mollies. The black one was fine, but one of my Silver mollies was absolutely coated in ick. I checked the thermometer. 82 degrees. It should have been at 86 degrees.

    I did a 50% water change,

I then checked on the catfish. One was also covered in ick. It's stomach was very, very bumpy looking.

I turned the heater up even more.

Anyone with experience with pictus catfish? I've had danios at 90 degree water before and like pictus, danios are cooler water fish. Do you think they can handle this heat?
