  • How do you get your two year old to tell you she needs to potty?

My daughter is potty training and things have kind of hit a stand still. She knows how to use the potty. She knows what she is supposed to do with it and if we put her on it she will go potty and even poop if we catch her at the right time. If we ask her if she needs to potty she will tell us and use the potty just fine. If she didn't need to use the potty she'll say no and be fine.

Our problem is that if we don't ask, she won't tell us. She'll simply potty in her panties (or pull-up depending on where we are). How did you get your kid to tell you they needed to potty? This has been going on for quite some time now and we don't know how to get her to tell us. We've tried pull-ups, panties, even bear bottomed around the house (this just resulted in a rather annoyingly messy clean-up). She seems to be unphased by being dirty or wet.

    Any suggestions are appreciated.

  • Ah! My toddlers spacer was broken today. How do I give her her inhaler?

We don't have a car because my husband is at work. (We are a one car family) Any ideas on how to administer her inhaler? Can I spray it in a bag and get her to breath with that? I'm not sure if she will take it without the spacer.

Any ideas are appreciated. We are going to get a new spacer tomorrow and this is only the most temporary solution (one maybe two doses). Thanks in advance!

  • Need unique ideas for a tat to cover a scar..?

I am getting a tattoo on the top of my breast to cover a small round scar. I'm looking for something that will look good at a size around a half dollar, a little smaller if possible but a little larger if necessary...I want it to look good obviously.

I already have a stick figure (for my daughter), a quill, and a tattoo that deals with my life's mantra...

I've considered the following and have not yet ruled them out but am looking to your creativity for more ideas. Ultimately my artist will help me with the final looks of it...but still.

    Heart

    Star

    Flower

    Clover

    Cross

    Galaxy(Nebula)

    Ladybug

    Button

And clearly none of those are terribly original.

PS: Any artist reading this...are these ideas plausible at that size?

  • I need a website to buy MP3s one by one without a membership?

I just need to download a number of specific songs in MP3 format. I don't want a monthly plan and can't use itunes. I simply don't download enough music to justify having one of the monthly things and I'm fine with normal radio so I could care less about on demand streaming.

I do however need to download songs for various projects at work (and some just for my own enjoyment) I have no problem at all paying for them, I just can't find a dang website for it!

    Thanks much!

  • Problem with appetite and severe nausea?

I'm a 25 year old healthy female who is overweight. I recently got over a pretty severe case of pharyngitis treated with an intense antibiotic course. Now I am off antibiotics and I am having trouble with my appetite. I am hungry but the idea (and especially the preparation) of food nauseates me. I have only been able to force myself to eat once a day for the past three days. I am now beginning to feel the effects of the lack of food.

I've tried to eat and know I need to eat. My stomach hurts because it's empty and I recognize it, but when I go to make food or try to eat ready-to-eat food (all sorts ranging from fresh fruits and veggies to lunchables to cereal) I get so nauseated I can't eat it.

Nothing is appealing and worse nothing is palatable. Is this a reaction to the super strong antibiotics I just came off of? (I didn't experience any negative side effects while on the medicine although the pharyngitis itself did keep me on a liquid diet for about a week until I could swallow again, the lesions broke and caused bleeding so I couldn't swallow food for a while even after the swelling - and pain- went down)

What do you think could help this? I don't have insurance so I hesitate to go to the doctor. I know this is no substitute to actual medical advice...just trying to get an consensus of opinion....

  • I posted a question but it never appeared?

I posted a question and it is in My Questions, but not in the category. No one has answered it because no one can see it. Should I delete and repost? Should I just be patient? It is supposed to be in Allergies and that's where it says it is in My questions, but when I go to the category it is a no show. It's been nearly an hour. Phooey... Any suggestions or explanations?

PS - The question was a perfectly normal one about penicillin, nothing crazy insane or insulting.

  • Is it possible to be allergic to penicillin but not amoxycillin?

I was recently prescribed a penicillin related antibiotic (cephalexin) and had a pretty nasty allergic reaction. I was treated and placed on a new antibiotic. A skin test confirmed that I am allergic to penicillin. When I was little I was given amoxycillin (sp?) quite often for various afflictions with no ill effects.

Is it possible to be allergic to penicillin but not amoxycillin? Is this an allergy I've developed as an adult? It's been years since I've been on antibiotic for anything. I grew out of the child hood illnesses and luckily have very good health.

Is it possible that I developed an allergy due to overexposure as a child?

Should I have my daughter tested for the allergy as well?

  • Is this an allergic reaction to my antibiotic?

I started cephalexin for strep throat yesterday but I'm concerned that I may be having an allergic reaction to it. I itch all over but have no visible rash. I tried taking a shower thinking maybe I just needed a good scrub. No change. Didn't get any better but also didn't get any worse. The itch isn't something that is out of control, I'm not scratching my skin to the point of wounding myself, but it is pretty much constant somewhere. I am also uncontrollably tired. I mean I literally struggle to keep my eyes open and when they are open I have to fight to keep them focused. This morning when I woke up my throat was more swollen then it ever has been, despite the antibiotic. But if I'm allergic to the drug, it won't do me any good. I'm having severe trouble focusing my mind and sometimes my vision, some difficulty breathing (but again I have a bad case of strep)

Is this an allergic reaction or just side effects of the drug?

  • OK so now I've chosen an idea of a design, where is the best spot?

OK, so I asked a question earlier about choosing my tattoo and I have an idea of what I want now. The picture is what I'll hand my artist as inspiration. It is all Elizabethan embroidery and my artist will be able to draw up a custom piece for me. The one in the lower right corner is my favorite and it will be pretty similar to that. Just with different flowers or birds or butterflies or whatever.

    http://i791.photobucket.com/albums/yy198/jskrable/...

But now I don't know where to put it. I was gonna get something on my shoulder or upper arm but am not sure that it will lay right and look normal. I guess I could wrap it around my calf. Wherever it is it has to be covered by jeans and a t-shirt. My employers would prefer that I not get any more visible tattoos. And I'm going to honor that.

But I do want it somewhere that if I chose to I can show it off. I had considered a brassiere of it, but then the people who can enjoy it are awfully limited. I'm open, but dang it those are mine and my husbands. LOL.

Where else? Where would you get it?

Now I know those pics are awfully detailed and something like that is going to want to run, but my girl will redraw them to a workable tattoo. That pic is just the idea of it. Just a springboard for her. Right now I'm concerned with placement.

    Thanks in advance

  • Unique Tattoo Suggestions?

I'm asking this because I'm getting another tattoo soon and I really can't decide what I want. What I do know is what I don't want.

No butterflies, tribal swirls, wings, fairies, dragons, cat eyes, tropical flowers (tropical anything). No standard run of the mill tattoos. While with the right artist these can be beautiful I just don't want one.

I like both colored tattoos and solid black although I think this time I'm gonna go with bright colors.

It will probably be on my shoulder or upper arm. If I can find something cool I'm not opposed to it draping across my shoulder and onto my chest but it doesn't have to. I just have to be sure that a t-shirt covers it because I can't have a visible tattoo at work. I already have one on my forearm and was hired with it. They said it's fine and don't make me cover it but they have asked that I refrain from other visible tats. No big. I can honor that.

So I know you don't know me or my likes and dislikes, but give me your suggestions. What would you get?

So far I've considered an owl, a cherry blossom tree (meh on this one). But then my brain stops

I haven't talked to my artist yet because I don't want to go in completely unprepared. I want to give her some direction and then she is amazing and can do her thing and I always love her stuff, but in the past i've had a good idea of the direction I wanted.

What things do you have, what ideas have you not had inked yet?

  • Tonsillitis or Strep?

So since Wednesday I have a pretty severe sore throat, swollen lymph nodes with white lesions. Thursday and Friday I had difficulty swallowing (more then just it hurt, I physically struggled to contract the muscles to force the food down my throat.)

No nauseau, no headache. Only a very low grade fever on Thursday. I saw some improvement Saturday and Sunday but today, I go back to work and while I feel fine in all other ways, I have a SEVERE sore throat. Advil and aleve have both failed to relieve it. I have throat spray but it only dulls it for maybe two minutes.

My question is, is this tonsillitis or is it strep throat? I ask not because I believe you all are medical experts, but because someone might know. Being uninsured, if it is tonsillitis then it's likely a virus and they will tell me to take an NSAID and gargle salt water. I don't need to pay them to tell me that. I already know. But if it is strep then I'll need an antibiotic and I'll need the doctor to confirm that. I don't mind going to the doctor but don't want to go for no reason.

Either way, if the symptoms are still severe on Friday (that's 10 days - the maximum average of the virus), but I need to see if I need to go sooner...

    TIA!

PS - I have a history of both illnesses but its never been THIS bad. Normally a good four days and it clears up on its own.

  • What if I just discovered my identity has been stolen? 5 years ago?

Ok - so I admit fault in not keeping track on my credit score, but that's the least of my issues.

I just discovered that I have an substantial debt under my SSN that I never incurred. A credit card appears under my name and identity. It was maxed out, a single payment was made, and then nothing after that. No other credit cards were opened after that. All further stuff on my reports was mine and I recognize it.

And this cc was opened and used 5 years ago.

But here's the kicker. I think I may have made that payment. According to the dates I've got I think I made the payment along with a host of other medical bills I was paying at the time. I didn't tend to read what I was paying, just wrote checks and paid the bills. I had just had my daughter and had a good number of bills go to collections. They hopped from collection agency to collection agency as I made payments when I could. (Again my fault, not disputing that) If I figure right, I made a payment to a credit card that wasn't mine to begin with.

Is that going to make it impossible to dispute it with the credit agencies? And what of the company that firmly believes the debt belongs to me? I'm now getting rather insipid calls demanding that I pay the debt that isn't mine. At least it isn't mine to my person, my social security number on the other hand apparently has quite a debt built up.

I know this has to have been identity theft, but it's the strangest case ever I would figure. Have I doomed myself to paying out a debt not mine because of my inattention? Will they believe me when I say the debt isn't mine?

For all my financial mistakes of yesteryear I just got myself back on track and doing pretty darn well all things considered. This could throw me back out to the lions. Argh. Any advice will be appreciated.

And please no flamers on my inability to control my debt or credit. I don't use credit for anything at the moment. Yes, I made mistakes but honestly and earnestly recovered from them. (At least I thought I did) We all make mistakes, so any advice on the situation at hand is welcome.

  • Daycare worker with breastfeeding Mama...?

I am a teacher at a daycare in the one year old class. One of our mom's has chosen to continue breastfeeding. Her son is allowed to drink cow's milk with lunch and eats solid food just like a normal 19 month old. But mom periodically comes up to breastfeed him. While I personally disagree with this it is not my place to tell her how to parent her child. It's totally cool with me if that what she wants to do.

My issue here is not with the breastfeeding, but with her timing. All the parents in the class know exactly when our naptime is. It's the same time every day (12-2) and NEVER varies. If the kids wake up they get a book or quiet toy and must stay on their mat. They are all great about this. I have great kids.

But this mom has started showing up to breastfeed her son around 12:30. This wouldn't be a problem except that everytime the boy sees his Mama he screams. It's a happy scream but he screams. He is a light sleeper so the minute one of us touches him he is awake, sees his mama, and screams, promptly waking up our 11 other kids.

Then it's nearly impossible to get them all back to sleep. I've had parents complain to me that their kids aren't sleeping enough. We document the fall asleep time and the wake up time so the parents know exactly how long they slept, or didn't sleep.

We've asked mom about the timing and she said that is when her lunch is. She doesn't work too far from the daycare so she is taking the opportunity to breastfeed.

So my question is, I can't continue to let one child and one mom disrupt the routine and sleep of my 11 other kids. How do I talk to Mom about this? I don't want to (and really can't) say that she cannot breastfeed her son. This problem has really only been the last week and a half or so. Previously she would come at 11 or so which is before nap. But her schedule changed.

I don't want to come across that I don't support her decision (whether I do or do not is not the issue) but I have to tell her that 12:30 is not an acceptable time because of the other children.

We even tried waking him with mom outside the room so when he screamed it didn't wake the other kids. But right now the kid also has separation anxiety so when she leaves he screams bloody murder for twenty or so minutes.

I simply don't know what to do without sounding like a complete a*s.

PS - My director is retiring next month so she is completely useless. I've been instructed to "deal with this as I see fit." Her words not mine. *rolls eyes*

  • A "Tramp Stamp" - Tattoo artists...?

So I've wanted to get a tramp stamp for a long time but I didn't want the same lame **** stuff like tribal, swirls, flowers, and butterflies. All of my other tattoos are custom designed (although they are all stand alone, nothing in big pieces) and I like the one off bit.

I have also wanted to get a pin up girl for the longest time but not look creepy for getting one what with being a girl myself.

So I was thinking of getting a pin up girl tattooed to look like the picture on a postage stamp. (Hence Tramp Stamp) Obviously this would be quite a bit larger than a real postage stamp. And that's fine. But is this something that is possible from a tattoo artist's stand point. I wouldn't choose any of the girls that are super detailed, just a simple design for her, but I would want the postage markings like you see on a mailed letter.

How big would that end up for that level of detail. I'm okay with big but I don't want it to end up taking up the entire lower portion of my back.

Any other ideas for either a pin up girl or a lower back piece that doesn't look corny and overdone?

  • Would you take your kid out?

So I live in OKC and we had over a foot of snow today. The storm is now gone but temps are gonna hover around 30 with teen wind chills. Would you super bundle your kid and take them out in this? OKC NEVER gets this much snow. The best we can expect if it snow at all is a light dusting... so this may be the only time my daughter gets to see this, even if she won't remember it. She is only two. We have a snow suit sent to her by her New Englander grandparents and plenty of layers so proper attire isn't an issue. Would you take your young toddler out just for the experience (and pictures...lol) or just say That's Nice, and keep them inside because of the temps?

  • You find out your husband has a child...?

Ok purely hypothetical what if question just for fun....

So you have been married for 4-5 years to a great guy. The two of you really have no interest in having kids, at least not right now. You'll re-evaluate in another 4-5 years.

One day there is a knock at your door and a lady shows up with an 8-year old kid and says it belongs to your husband. (We will assume she magically showed up with the DNA papers to prove it) She wants your now husband to take custody of the kid and intends to leave with no trace as soon as he accepts.

It turns out that your husband in fact knew about the child but the mom had split sometime shortly after the baby had been born. He had been willing to be a dad but certainly not ready. When the mom split he simply didn't invest too much time looking for her or the kid... It also never occured to him to tell you about that tricky little part of his past....

How would you feel? What would you do? Would you take the kid in? Would you stick around? Would you split?

  • In OKC, OK, anyone know of some good Halloween events that are toddler friendly?

I already know about Haunt the Zoo - we will be attending that. And the Bright Night of Not-so-frightening fun at the Science Museum.

We've ruled out Frontier City and haunted houses are totally out (my daughter is easily frightened by loud noises).

So aside from standard trick or treating on Halloween night, anyone got anything good in Oklahoma City, OK or its surrounding cities?

  • Is my staph infection still contagious if I am on antibiotics?

My daughter got a staph infection from her gymnastics class and has now passed it to me? We are both on antibiotics now but its only been a day and a half of treatment. Her sores have not opened and the doctor does not believe hers will. However mine is on my face and he had to open it to ensure that it did not swell into my eye or down my throat impeding my windpipe. (The infection and reactive swelling is about the size of a tennis ball so it's pretty big) So my question is am I still contagious if I am on antibiotic. I took yesterday, today, and tomorrow for sick leave but wonder if I can go back to work on Friday if the sore is still draining and weeping? How at risk is my husband for contracting staph? He is keeping clear of us and I don't touch anything without first sanitizing my hands and then spraying down surfaces with lysol after I'm finished. He is also sanitizing regularly as well as hand washing.

  • Did you have a mom's intuition that you were pregnant with your 2nd (3rd, 4th) baby?

Before you took the test, before you missed your period, did you "know" you were pregnant? Did you feel different? Was it intuition? Did you notice little changes in your body?

So the deal is my husband and I already have a daughter (she's 2) and we were trying this summer but decided to put a halt to that when I decided to go back to school to finally finish my degree.

So of course NOW I would get pregnant.

It's still to early to take a test just yet, but I have that feeling. I've also noticed a few early symptoms similar too (yet slightly distinct) to my first pregnancy. (Cravings, frequent urination, gassy, etc)

So when did you "know" that you had another on the way? When did you first starting noticing symptoms?
