Really, I'm just amazed at all of the ignorance, prejudice, and stupidity.

  • Is there any way to remove one of my own questions?

Well, a friend managed to hijack my account briefly and be immature and post a silly/disrespectful question under my name.

    The question in question:

Is there any way to get rid of it? I can't report my own question, so...?

  • How is this pro-military?

My friend, a "conservative," says he is "pro-military." In fact, he is very, very "pro-military." And yet, he says he is "anti-peace with the Middle East" and that he does not believe in any neutrality in current affairs and foreign relations.

How is this pro-military, wanting more war? Am I missing something? Everytime I mention something to the contrary, he says that I am a bad American and don't support the troops, which is completely false.

  • Anyone else ever had a nightmare PE experience?

Today had to have been one of the worst for me. I am not usually a complaining person, but yesterday a swimming unit was announced unexpectedly (giving people without a bathing suit that fits, like me, just one night to go buy one). Swimming is my least favorite PE unit (love to be in the water, but not doing laps).

This morning, it was 35-40°F with a very brisk wind of around 10 mph, and this is when my PE class is. The pool is outdoors and partially shaded. Wind chill had to be around 28-32°F. I was already shivering in my street clothes, so you can imagine what it was like. The only good thing was that the pool was relatively warm. However, I felt sick for the rest of the day.

My PE teacher, who is okay overall, told us at first it wasn't cold. Soon after he admitted, "Okay, I guess it is a little cold." He, of course, was wearing a long-sleeve shirt.

For another indicator of how strangely cold it was today, there were some rain/snow showers in the area during the afternoon, a rare occurrence in my California town (just a few times each year), especially in April.

So, anyone else had similar experiences? I'm interested to hear 'em.

  • Credibility of co2science.org?

I am currently working on a debate and have to be ready to cover both sides of the global warming issue. I was curious about your thoughts of http://www.co2science.org/? It is difficult to find credible information on the non-AGW side that isn't politically driven and conspiracy-laden or from a blog or WorldNetDaily.

Thanks to all who answered this (my) question 9 months ago, some great sites were listed and are really helping me now, so know that I do have other sources http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AmIGx...

  • Do any of you also get very tired of reading these answers...?

...that go along the lines of...

"Global warming is all a myth AL GORE is fooling you so he can make $$$. Scientists just need their grant money, so they make it up that carbon dioxide warms the atmosphere to please our evil liberal government. Sunspots are the cause so stop believing NBC, CBS, ABC; they are in it too."

    or,

"Hun, do you think it is? It's snowing outside right now. This is a ridiculous theory so that governments can control our lives. They're paying the scientists.

P.S. It snowed in New Orleans and the UAE recently."

And then their cited source, if there ever is one, is along the lines of...

    A blog written by non-scientists: http://www.populartechnology.net/2009/02/global-co...

Some ridiculous conservative, pseudoscientific website (this one also happens to deny cholesterol negatively impacts health and advocates that secondhand smoke does no harm): http://www.douglassreport.com/reports/global-warmi...

Some article from a conservative website that looks scientific: http://www.thenewamerican.com/tech-mainmenu-30/env...

Something that is off subject, but still is anti-environment (a book that says oil is not a fossil fuel): http://www.amazon.com/Black-Gold-Stranglehold-Jero...

This isn't to say the "Drive a hybrid or we're all going to die!" answers aren't annoying also.

Does anyone else think that this debate would be a lot more interesting and worthwhile if the non-AGW side cited some decent sources and didn't make so many conspiracy-ladened answers?

Seriously, the Al Gore thing does get annoying. At least 50% of the non-AGW answers contain at least some reference to him. Saying he lives a hypocritical lifestyle does not disprove global warming. The sad thing is, a lot of people think that and practice it to the full.

It all makes the non-AGW side look overall unintelligent, when the truth is that they could also have credible arguments, if sourced correctly.

  • How come so many people think that they can say being gay is a conscious choice, when they aren't themselves?

This has always bothered me. Sure, for a few it may be that way, but the people above always say it about the population as a whole. Honestly, how can you think that you know another person's mind?

    Thoughts?

  • Help! All of the sudden, my computer won't read CDs.?

I have Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit), Service Pack 1. I haven't installed anything since the problem started happening, and it occurs with all of the games/programs that need a CD. I have tried System Restore, cleaning the disks, restarting the computer, and rotating/flipping the disks, all to no avail. Could this be more of a hardware malfunction?

    Thanks.

Additional Info: I have an HP Pavilon Slimline desktop PC.

  • How come so many people equate Al Gore to global warming?

In this section, there are many answers that go along the lines of (I don't want to directly quote anyone):

"Don't believe agw al gore is just flying around in his private jets the money he made off you. he sells his carbon credits and makes money its all a scam the sun does it all."

    You get the point.

So how does Al Gore flying around in his private jet make AGW all wrong? Or him making a mistake in "An Inconvenient Truth" make AGW all a scam? I personally don't like him, actually, but that doesn't make me deny AGW.

This is directed at people who consistently use Al Gore in their answers about how AGW is all a fraud, not those who have a scientific base.

  • Most unbiased large media network?

My grandma (lol) only watches Fox News, and believes everything she sees on it. She claims, "Fox News, compared to NBC, CBS, and ABC, is completely unbiased and shows viewers both sides of the issues. The others are one-sided and pushing ("liberal," she implies), agendas." However, after doing online research, it seems to be Fox that has a lot more bias and is a center of controversies. Your opinions?

  • Does anyone still believe in a flat earth?

Anyone, anywhere? Honestly, I couldn't believe what I was reading, as this "society" has been active relatively recently (1980s and 1990s), and Wikipedia even claims "Charles Johnson died on March 19, 2001, leaving the fate of the Flat Earth Society uncertain, though attempts at re-establishment by leading Flat Earthers in different parts of the world are currently under way." This is taking the Bible a little too literal; and some verses even imply a spherical Earth.

    Thanks.

  • Credible, scientific sources for AGW not happening?

If you've browsed the GW section, you'll notice tons of answers that state somewhere along the line of "man has no impact on climate," "carbon dioxide doesn't cause warming," and "this is all a scam to make money." However, I rarely see any of these answers backed up, unlike the ones supporting AGW linking to NASA, .gov websites, .edu websites, etc. If the non-global warming answers have a source, it is of questionable integrity, such as a conservative blog, and not scientific. So, sources anyone? Real sources? There's got to be some (NewsBusters, Global Climate Scam, etc. are not very scientific so they don't count). Thanks. I'd like to see the other side of the debate, but scientifically.

  • How come fundamentalist Christians are more likely to believe in conspiracy theories?

It doesn't apply to everyone, but, I've noticed it both in real life and online. The ideas that there is a global warming conspiracy, a 9/11 conspiracy, a New World Order, etc. Especially here on Yahoo! Answers, browsing the global warming section, clicking to see that person's other Q&A, and if that person posted there some long rant about how Al Gore is with liberals with a big conspiracy theory, there is almost always answers in Religion & Spirituality debunking evolution, etc. I've found the same thing just talking with people: those who think evolution is a lie, also believe in some crazy ideas about conspiracies.

I hate to generalize about any group, but, any thoughts?

  • How come global warming skeptics...?

...constantly mention Al Gore as some sort of argument against man-made global warming, and how "liberals are saying this," "liberals want you to think that," etc. The science mostly agrees with anthropogenic global warming in some way, but people ignore that and rant on about politics.

Those skeptics who use science in thier answers, thank you, and I respect you.

    Examples anyone? Thanks.

Just curious how strong of a base they have in supporting God's existence/Bible accuracy. I've heard multiple claims of how accurate they really are.

  • People praying on game/reality shows?

It bothers me when I see it, because why would God favor you over everyone else (most likely Christians also) to help you win $1,000,000 (or whatever)? Just curious to others' thoughts on this, I've seen it quite a bit, such on Survivor. Do these people honestly think that God would favorite them?

(I'm actually an atheist, but ignore that.)

  • Compared to blackberries, are raspberries and blueberries invasive?

My parents had to tear out our blackberry plant because it spread into the neighbours' yards. But, one of my favorite foods are berries, and they cost a ton at the store. So, will these grow as crazy? We don't want to go through the previous experience; 2 years later and blackberry plants still are popping up in spring.
