  • What is a DCA on a sprinkler system and are they necessary?

Wondering if a DCA is necessary...I was told I needed a new one for $500. The sprinkler system comes on. I asked the sprinkler guy to replace some sprinkler heads and this is what I was told. Thanks!

  • Name my book, $25 to best answer.?

I've been asked to write a book; it's about how to buy a house without getting ripped off. I need a title and I will send $25 to you if I use your suggestion. My company is called HelpUBuy America, and my tag line is 'don't let them make a monkey out of you'. You can visit my site to see what I mean. helpubuyamerica.com. The book cover will have my logo, a monkey, but I need a title. I don't want to use "how to buy a home without getting ripped off". Any thoughts? Payment via check or paypal.

  • Can this ever work? My husband and I have a 'parent-child' relationship. Tired of being his mommy.?

I'm an involuntary ruler of my own roost. I want a partner, not another child. He won't do anything unless I ask, and if I ask him to do something other than watch football and drink beer, he pouts and leaves to get drunk at a bar. We haven't had sex for 10 months...he typically can't perform anyway because he feels pressured....I guess to please his mommy. This is just weird, right? Can anyone relate?

  • Sexless marriage - would you stay?

My husband hasn't approached me for sex in 9 months. And 4 months before that, and 5 months before that. I'm not overweight or unattractive, and we are the best of friends. But he doesn't want me. In fact, the only time we have sex is when I complain about never having sex. I try to hide my feelings about it and let him pursue me...I'm tired of initiating sex with someone who doesn't want me. But inevitably, after 4 months I get angry. This time it's been 9 months. I mentioned it to him at 6 months, and 8 months, and again yesterday.

I've asked him why and he says that he doesn't know why he doesn't pursue me. He says he's attracted to me, that he's not gay, and that he loves me. I do know that he loves me and I'm positive he's not cheating on me.

I've told him I'm thinking of leaving him and that if he doesn't want me, he needs to let me go. He says he'll try, but I know that he won't. We have a 15 year old daughter and I'm thinking of leaving when she goes to college. In the meantime, there is a special man from past who is pursuing me and I'm thinking about him all the time these days.

I'm 46 years old...I know how short life is and I want to be with someone who wants me. Sex is important to me, as is cuddling and closeness.

Can anyone relate? Would you stay in a marriage when you only had sex once a year? I've been complaining about it for 7 years and it's getting worse, not better.

  • Need advice from teenage girls...please!?

Please help me understand my daughter. I adore her. She's funny, smart, talented, has a big heart, etc. She's also very, very pretty, a great dancer, on the drill team, etc. But, this poor girl has no self-esteem. She's been dancing 12 years, but she's too scared to take a dance class at a new dance school because she thinks she'll be judged. She has very few friends; people think she's a bit snobby but she's really just so insecure that she appears aloof. I've taken her to counseling and she refused to participate.

Is this something she's going to have to figure out on her own? I recall being insecure as a teenager but I wasn't nearly as accomplished as her. Please help me understand this. Is there something I can do? I've been telling her how wonderful she is for years and she doesn't get it.

  • Should I work with clients I hate?

I have a small business and have worked for 16 years with a type of client that I absolutely hate. They are disrespectful, demanding, rude, and always try to negotiate my fee at the end, threatening to walk away from the transaction if I don't abide. I swore to myself that I would never work with those types again, but I need the money. Problem is, there is a 50/50 chance I won't get paid. Is it worth putting stress on myself and family to accommodate these people?

  • Advice from high school girls, please!?

My 15 year old daughter is on the drill team but doesn't really like the other girls. In fact, she never really got along with the dance girls. Mine is very pretty and smart and there are some jealously issues. But she's also somewhat quiet and very polite. She settles for 2nd best a lot because she's not aggressive enough to butt in or take what she wants.

They have a group trip to Disneyworld coming up and she isn't 100% sure she wants to go. She doesn't have a 'group' of girls so she'll be tagging along and sharing a room with girls who aren't her buddies. She thinks a lot of the girls are just mean and doesn't want to hang out with them. On the other hand, she'll feel left out when they come back from the trip and are sharing a memory that she wouldn't be involved in. There are only 5 or 6 girls that aren't going.

Should we force her to go? It's $1,600 for 3 nights which is a lot of money (for us). She can't decide and I don't know what to make her do. She's had 4 months to decide and I've already spent $200. Since she can't decide, I need to decide for her.

Anyone have any insights into these trips?

  • Are American Staffordshire Terriers (Amstaffs) okay to have around my golden retriever and cat?

I've fallen in love with an Amstaff at the local shelter. He is sweet and gentle and beautiful, but I have a golden retrieverand a cat, and I don't want them to be upset or injured by an aggressive bread. The shelter said that he was found injured and nursed back to health. I don't know if this means his was in a fight, and they don't know either. They say he is really good with people and other dogs. Any suggesstions? I really love the little guy.

  • Would you be mad if your husband took a day off work to go to the movies and to a bar and didn't tell you?

I had an argument with my husband so he called in sick to work and went to the movies and then to a bar. He came home at a normal time like he had been at work all day. That was two weeks ago and I just found out today because his paycheck was short $300. He says he was ticked off at me and wanted to treat himself to a day off. Also, I was home sick as a dog with food poisoning that day. He knew about it and still sat at the bar. I'm pretty upset. Thoughts?

  • Is it time to put my dog to sleep?

She has liver problems that are untreatable. She's jaundice, has lost 1/3 of her body weight, won't eat anything except an occasional treat. She doesn't play but still likes to cuddle and will follow me around a bit, and will go to the door if the bell rings to greet visitors. We were in emergency this weekend; she's in liver failure for sure. This is so hard....I'm so sad. And, there is a part of me that wants her to die in her sleep. But the thought of dealing with her remains doesn't sit well with me.

  • My dog is jaundice, has a VERY high ALKP, ALT and TBIL. Any ideas?

Is jaundice something you "have" or something you "are". Not sure about my grammar on that one.

My dog has been on a hunger strike for a couple of weeks. Some vomitting and small amount of diarrhea. Today I was brushing her and noticed her eyes, ears, tongue, etc. were yellow. I took her to the vet for blookwork and her ALKP was 1667 (normal high is 212), ALT is 346 (normal high is 100), and TBIL is 15.4 (normal high is .9). The vet sent us to the emergency room for fluids, etc. We took her over there and the cost was about $1000/day, so we took her home. They gave her a couple vitamin shots, antibiotic, and fluid under the skin.

She's sleeping now but I'm FREAKED! Any thoughts?

  • Question for teens with divorced parents?

Assume your parents had a horrible marriage and divorce proceedings that lasted 4 years.

If there were unbiased documents that detailed what happened, would you want to read them?

Assume you are 15 years old and your Dad's parental rights were terminated and you hadn't seen him since you were 8. The documents include psychological profiles, social study findings, and judges rulings. You would know the truth about what happened. Would you want to know? If so, what age or when do you think you would have liked to read them?

  • Can I trust this dentist? My dentist is up selling crowns.?

I know that I need crowns. But my dentist's "salesperson" put me in a room with a credit application and told me that my share of my crowns would cost $400-500 each, depending on whether or not the teeth needed to be built up. I get that.

However, I wasn't told (I looked it up later) that I had the option to choose from gold, part metal & porcelain, and 100% porcelain crowns. The crowns are going on my molars so I don't need all porcelain. I am upset that I was simply signed up for the most expensive option.

  • Am I wrong? My brother invited himself to my house with an 80 pound dog. I said no. Everyone hates me now.?

Everyone hates me when I set boundaries and say no. My family has boundary issues...bad. I've always been the good girl who just takes the scraps and gets stuck with all the grunt work/chores that no one wants. My Mom is a narcissist (a real one, not a made for TV one). My brother in Austin is 50 years old with no job, and two WILD kids who can't even read at the ages of 10 and 12.

For Thanksgiving this year, my hubby, daughter and I were invited to my father-in-law's house. Then, Mom invites my brother and he plans to bring the kids to Dallas for a week. Whenever he and the kids visit her, my daughter always gets stuck babysitting brats, I get stuck cooking and cleaning for everyone, my husband gets grumpy because of all the chaos.

Yesterday, my brother asked if he could stay with us and bring his 80 pound dog. We live in a very, very small house and have 3 pets of our own; I said no. I told my mom last week that they are her guests, not mine, and I have to work and I don't want company for 6 nights. I did, however, volunteer to have Thanksgiving dinner here.

Well, after I told him he couldn't stay or bring his dog, he's mad. And mom is mad. My daughter and husband are happy because our lives won't be disrupted but I feel guilty. I know I have the right to say no, but saying no isn't a safe thing to do in my world. I hate the holidays.

  • I signed a quit claim deed to transfer my deceased brother's building to my mother (heir).?

No estate taxes are due. I know that the estate is no longer responsible for the building.. Mom will inherit the equity but it's all subject to existing liens and mortgages against the property. So she has to deal with all of that (sell the property to pay off the mortgage or rent it out and make the payments).

Is there anything else I have to do or can I wash my hands of the whole thing? It's really up to her to deal with the mortgage company now, right? My Mom is a bit of a sneak/cheater/liar so I want to protect myself from anything she can do to harm me.

    Thanks!

  • I'm the executor of my brother's estate. He left his 5-unit apt building to my mother.?

She has been collecting rent on the building and not making the mortgage payment. She's having a hard time selling it and is talking about collecting the rents and letting the bank foreclose, which will take about a year.

What is my responsibility here? The building is still in my brother's name...we never transferred it to her name. How would I even do that? I'm worried that I could get in trouble with the probate court, even though the estate has already been closed.
