My life revolves around chemistry; that's pretty much it. I'm currently enrolled in The Ohio State Univeristy. I'm working on earning my Bachelor's of Science in chemical engineering with a minor in nuclear engineering.

  • What kind of batters could I get in exchange for Stephen Strasburg?

I'm considering trading Stephen Strasburg for some batting help since for all we know, he could flop big time when he gets called up. Doesn't matter what position but what tier of batters should I be looking at? Thanks for your help.

Or you can convince me to keep Strasburg... either or would be nice.

  • Photoelectric effect?

    A couple short questions:

If I increase the frequency of light (decrease the wavelength), and keep the intensity constant, will the rate of photons onto the metal increase? I thought it might have stayed the same, but I'm not sure. It could also decrease. I'm really confused on this.

Also, same situation. If I increase the frequency of light (decrease the wavelength), and keep the intensity constant, does the rate of photoelectrons stay the same or decrease. I'm pretty sure it doesn't increase.

Also, the intensity can be defined as the number of photons in the light. For example, increasing the light intensity increases the number of photon in the light.

Thanks for your time and help today!

  • Is Stephen Strasburg going to pitch this year?

If so, when is a good approximation of when he'll be called up? He's taking up valuable bench space on my team; however, I used my second to last draft pick on him so it's not like I wasted much. Should I continue to keep him on the bench or drop/try to trade him?

  • Unusually high ERA and WHIP?

Last season, I easily had the highest ERA and WHIP in my fantasy baseball league. This year looks no different, so far. Is there something I'm missing in order to just get an average ERA and WHIP? Here's my pitching staff:

    Ricky Nolasco, Fla SP

    Jake Peavy, CWS SP

    Frank Francisco, Tex RP

    Stephen Strasburg, Was SP

    Yovani Gallardo, Mil SP

    Josh Beckett, Bos SP

    Ubaldo Jimenez, Col SP

    Brian Wilson, SF RP

    Trevor Hoffman, Mil RP

    Andy Pettitte, NYY SP

My ERA so far is 5.049 and the WHIP is 1.537, which easily puts me last in my league in both categories.

  • Opinions on trade proposal?

What do you think of this trade?

    Receive:

    Kendry Morales, LAA 1B

    Matt Kemp, LAD OF

    Send:

    Kevin Youkilis, Bos 3B, 1B

    Ricky Nolasco, Fla SP

Here's the rest of my starting pitching:

    Yovani Gallardo, Mil SP

    Josh Beckett, Bos SP

    Ubaldo Jimenez, Col SP

    Jake Peavy, CWS SP

    Stephen Strasburg, Was SP

My outfield could use a little help as my fifth spot is filled with either Franklin Gutierrez, Sea or Chris Coghlan, Fla.

Other information: 8 team, roto league. In addition to the standard 10 scoring categories, there is also OPS (On-base Plus Slugging). Thanks for your time and help!

  • Opinions on possible trade?

First, I'm somewhat in need of stolen bases.

    Here's the potential trade:

    Receive:

    Kendry Morales, LAA 1B

    Matt Kemp, LAD OF

    Send:

    Kevin Youkilis, Bos 3B, 1B

    Chris Coghlan, Fla OF

Other details: 8 team, roto league. In addition to the standard 10 scoring categories, there's also OPS (On-base Plus Slugging).

I think I should go for it, but I would like other opinions before I commit. Thanks for your time!

  • Week 17: Matt Forte or Maurice Morris?

Who do you think the better play is the final week of regular season?

Matt Forte (Chi) going up against Detroit's rushing defense? Note stats.

    --OR--

Maurice Morris (Det) going up against Chicago's rushing defense? Again, note stats.

Detroit rush defense: 125.0 rushing yards against/game. 18 total rush TD's given up this season.

Chicago rush defense: 128.1 rushing yards against/game. 14 total rush TD's given up this season.

Personally, I'm leaning towards Forte, but he is so inconsistent this season. What's your thoughts?

  • Which two running back do you start? Matt Forte, Jamaal Charles, etc...?

I need to start two running backs. Which two would you start? Thanks for your time!

Matt Forte (Chi) playing at home against a tough Minnesota rushing defense.

Jamaal Charles (KC) playing in Cincinnati against a less tough Cincinnati rushing defense.

Quinton Ganther (Was) playing at home against a even less tough (but still tough) Dallas rushing defense.

Maurice Morris (Det) playing in San Fransisco against a decent rushing defense.

Michael Bush (Oak) playing in Cleveland against a terrible rushing defense, but it's Michael Bush...

  • Who to start this week? Steve Smith, Michael Crabtree, or Josh Morgan?

Who would you start this week?

Steve Smith (Car) against the decent New York Giants pass defense in the Meadowlands? It looks like Steve Smith is making a connection with Matt Moore late in the season. Two touchdowns the past two weeks; think it'll continue?

    --OR--

Michael Crabtree (SF) playing in San Fransisco against the Detroit Lions who have the worst pass defense.

    --OR--

Josh Morgan (SF) against the same Lions pass defense. Josh Morgan seemed to be targeted more than Crabtree last week against the Eagles.

  • Derivatives of x / (x^x)?

Does anyone know how to find the first 5 or 6 derivatives of x / (x^x)?

I'm trying to find the Taylor Series centered at a = 1 of this function, if you're curious.

    Thanks for your help.

  • What is the magnitude of the magnetic field?

A long solenoid with 70.0 turns/cm and a radius of 5.00 cm carries a current of 16.0 mA. A current of 2.00 A exists in a straight conductor located along the central axis of the solenoid.

    (a) At what radial distance from the axis will the direction of the resulting magnetic field be at 45.0° to the axial direction?

    d=I2/(2pi * n * I1) = 2.00A / (2 * pi * 70turns/cm * 0.0160A) = 0.2842m

Now they want to know what is the magnitude of the magnetic field there.

I thought I had some ideas on how to calculate this question, but none of my calculations are correct. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time!

  • Help calculating the capacitance per meter of a cable?

    Question:

A coaxial cable used in a transmission line has an inner radius of 0.10mm and an outer radius of 0.60mm. Calculate the capacitance per meter for the cable. Assume that the space between the conductors is filled with polystyrene. (Also assume that the outer conductor is infinitesimally thin).

    Polystyrene dielectric constant : κ=2.6

Now the book says the answer is 81 pF/m; however, I have no idea how to reach this conclusion. I have a feeling it has something to do with:

    C= ε₀A/d

Help would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time!

  • Calculus 3 - Converge or Diverge?

Alright. I've hit a small wall in my calculus series. I really don't know how to solve and prove if it converges or diverges.

    an = ln(n+1) - ln(n)

I believe this converges to zero, but I'm not sure how to prove that it does and then I have no Idea how to find the sum of the sequence, if it does in fact converge. If you could help, that would be awesome. Thanks!
