  • Easy physics question, algebra and calculus answers differ??

This is driving me crazy because it should be insanely simple. The question is

A race car starts from rest and travels east along a straight and level track. For the first 5.0 s of the car's motion, the eastward component of the car's velocity is given by vx(t)=(0.890m/s^3)t^2. What is the acceleration of the car when vx = 15.3 m/s ?

I solved for t and got 4.15s. Now logic should tell you it takes 4.15 seconds to get up to 15.3m/s, right? This means that you should divide the speed 15.3m/s by 4.15s to get the acceleration. Well, I did that and got 3.69m/s^2 . I would think this is the right answer, but it says it isn't. When I do the calculus and derive the equation I get (1.78m/s^3)t . Plugging in the t value I get (1.78m/s^3)(4.15s) which equals 7.39m/s^2. It said this is the correct answer. This is double the algebra answer... but why?? Am I missing something??

  • Help me! I see no way out of this?

For the past week every morning I wake up and feel a little nauseous then become extremely, crippling nauseous until around 12:00 when I feel better. I just built up the strength to type this... I think it is stress related because it started a week before me having to volunteer at a museum with a lot of people in it. I have to volunteer every week. I can't handle social situations very well and I think this is why I feel absolutely sick. What should I do?

  • Just finished an install in my computer and have a question?

I just did a major install on my computer (Dell XPS 420) replacing the power supply and graphics card. The graphics card performs seamlessly on games like Just Cause 2 and Battlefield 3 (60fps avg) etc. at a great 60c on average and has an idle of 42c. Here are the specs.

    Dell custom XPS 420 motherboard

    Corsair TX550M (550w)

    6GB of RAM

    Intel Core 2 Quad 2.33GHz Q8200

    ATi Radeon HD 6870 1GB

    Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm 750GB HD

Now my question is that when I load up a video on youtube, the GPU fan starts revving and the temps start rising up to about 55c but when I load up a flash game there is no apparent change. Now I'm pretty sure this shouldn't happen since the GPU load only goes to about 2-3%. This is the strangest thing because my older, way weaker, card had no problem of this, but other than that the new card is a godsend.

  • I wish it wouldn't of come to this, but could you help me?

Hi, I have a 2009 Dell XPS 420 with the following specs

    Dell custom XPS 420 motherboard

    375w Dell PSU

    6GB of RAM

    Intel Core 2 Quad 2.33GHz Q8200

    ATi Radeon HD 4670 512mb

    Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm 750GB HD

I wanted to upgrade the graphics card to an XFX AMD Radeon HD 6870 PCI-e 1GB DDR5. The problem I'm having is I don't know if that requires a 2 x 6-pin power connector or not because the graphics card I currently have does not, which leads me to believe my PSU cannot handle the card :(

I haven't dealt with computers in a while so I'll have to relearn all of the different types of connections that are necessary. So what do you suggest? Keep the card I have? Buy a new PSU? Get a different card? Help would be great, thanks.

  • Why is this answer wrong?

In Algebra II I'm doing absolute value and got this problem -10=3|4w-1|-5

I got -1/6 but the book says its -1. I'm probably doing something stupid... why is this wrong? Thank you.

  • LG HDTV 37LB2DR problem. Power board help?

It takes a while to turn on, blinking for 10 seconds until the backlight kicks in and it depends when the final picture kicks in and depends when the final picture kicks in (anywhere from 2-10 minutes) and then after about an hour it turns off and I cant turn it back on for a day. I'm pretty sure its the power board, and I've already bought another TV but I took the broken one apart yesterday just to see what's wrong, maybe I can use it as another monitor :). There are no problems with the capacitors as I checked the power flow and they were normal. Maybe the capacitors lose power over time? Overheating? How can I fix this?

  • Math question that is worded weird..?

It says, "Circle ALL equations that are parallel to the given equation." and this is while doing slopes. An example:

    y=3/2x-2

    Another:

    3x+2y=6

I understand how to get the slope but how can you be parallel if you don't have another line?

  • Turboprop start cycles when on floats?

Take a DHC-6 with floats for example. As you know most turboprops automatically cycle their engines to full for a few seconds when they start which creates obvious thrust on the prop, which would be fine in an environment which you can factor brakes but on the water I assume they would have a problem. How do they overcome this problem? Feathering is an obvious answer but the checklist notes a 50% RPM lever.

  • Hobbs or Tach? Which do you prefer?

Every pilot obviously logs with Hobbs but I've talked to some who go with Tach, which means it measures the RPM of the engine meaning you get a higher Tach when running at a fully open throttle. I like Hobbs personally more.

  • How bumpy is the traffic pattern at your airport?

I live in a sunny place with flat lands, lots of trees and usually a 29.92 alt because I'm so close to sea level. The only downside is there are a lot of pockets of thermals usually around the whole traffic pattern and also stays pretty windy usually around a 12 kts crosswind. How's your airport?

  • You wanna know how I got these scars?

This has to hold some significance to the mentality, or symbolism of the joker but cant exactly figure it out. I mean he says it three times, and all of them were immensely dramatic.

    1. To Gamble at his hideout

    2. To Rachel at the party

    3. To Batman when he's trapped under the bar high up on the building (joker's final scene)

  • Unlimited-Range Battery powered Aircraft?

With the introduction of the new Pipistrel Panthera Im wondering about an idea I've had for years. Could you possibly use a series of alternators to charge the batteries which makes an infinite loop of power. I've had this idea since I thought of an infinite battery for an electronic device using a small APU type device using a small motor and an alternator. In the event of an alternator failure you would still have about 200nm of range (based on Panthera performance). The only way I can think that this couldn't happen is that the constant charging of the battery would quickly affect the battery negitively. So, what do you think?
