  • What would like to read a blog about?

I'm thinking about starting a blog, and I'm looking for recommendations on the focus of the overall blog and topics for individual posts. So, what would you like to read about on a blog?

Please answer to your liking, and I'll take it into account along with what is relevant to myself.

    Thanks!

  • How do I focus on a topic for a blog?

I've been thinking about starting a blog. However, mostly what I would be writing would be considered a "lifestyle" blog - pretty much just all about me, the journey I'm on, things I learn and experience, etc. However, I'm feeling a bit apprehensive about it. A lot of blogs I come across seem to be more focused. They may talk about parenting or crafting or gaming or DIY or fashion, etc. Mine would just be about me.

So, I need some advice. Do I need a better focus? What types of blogs do you enjoy reading?

    Thanks!

  • Need book recommendations?

I tend to like things that are realistic fiction, or historical narratives. I'm not super into fantasy or sci-fi.

I'm not a huge reader, so I'd prefer something that's not too huge of an undertaking.

Any recommendations are appreciated, even if they are outside of the genres I mentioned.

  • What type of shoes can I wear instead of heels?

I hate wearing heels. I absolutely hate it. I'm already tall. I can't walk in them. They are painful. I look like a baby giraffe that stepped in a bear trap when I wear heels.

What can I wear instead of heels? For a job interview? For a night out? With a day dress? etc.

Also, ballet flats are not a better option. Most ballet flats that I've encountered are not comfortable. They rub no matter how they fit, there's zero support, and the soles are so thin I might as well be barefoot because I can feel every bump and pebble through my shoes. Ballet flats are just shaped in a way that does not keep my foot in the shoe.

So, fashion people, what are some other options?

  • What does having any college degree qualify you for?

What does the status of college graduate qualify a person to do? Obviously each major trains a person for a specific field, but what I mean is ANY bachelors degree. For instance, I know that once you have a bachelors degree you can teach English abroad (after taking an additional certification course). Is there anything else like that, where any person with a bachelors degree is qualified to do a certain job?

    Thanks

  • How much should I deduct from my budget for NYC taxes?

I may be moving to NYC for a job this year, but I am concerned that my livable pay may not be so livable after taxes.

As I was working on my budget to figure out how I can afford to live there, it occurred to me that the 15% I subtracted from my expected earnings to account for taxes probably isn't enough.

I will be living and working in the city, and I have no dependents.

I have seen in other places that income tax may be up to 40% - honestly I only have a vague idea of how income tax works, but does that mean that 40% of what I earn will go directly to taxes? i.e. if I earn $100, I get $60 and the other $40 goes to income tax

Also, is 40% a fair estimate for my budget? Because I don't think I can afford that. It was already gonna be tight with the 15% that I already deducted from my budget.

What percentage should I deduct from my expected earnings to budget for income tax?

  • What are names for a region or area?

    For example, there could be:

    Chester City

    Chester Lake

    Chester Village

What are some other place names?

  • What are some words for a region/area?

They don't need to have the same definition, but what words could fit into that category?

    For example:

City, Village, County, Lake (area), Falls (area), etc.

    thanks

  • Is it possible to intentionally cause a terminal disease, and how?

I'm not talking about alcohol and cigarettes, which I know can cause illness. I mean a fool-proof way to intentionally cause a terminal disease. Perhaps through intentional poisoning?

    PS

I'm not homicidal or suicidal, just looking for information

    Thanks

  • Why is my dog acting so weird?

My dog is about 14 years old, and he's been acting pretty weird lately. He has been refusing to eat, which has been really concerning. We've been able to coerce him to eat by adding special treats to his bowl. He also has been refusing to go outside. There have been several times when we had to force him to go outside because he simply would not.

The past couple of days I have been sleeping in the living room. Each night, the dog has woken me up several times to let him out, give him food, etc. Normally nobody lets him out or feeds him in the middle of the night.

Why could my dog be behaving so strangely?

He also has arthritis which he takes medication for a couple times per week, and his hearing is starting to go. I don't suspect that his behavior is linked to these health issues, though.

  • What poisons cause serious diseases, especially terminal blood or liver diseases?

This is for purely hypothetical reasons. I am looking for information on poisons that could cause serious or terminal diseases, especially relating to the blood, liver, or other major organ.

    thanks

  • Where can I find information on poison?

I am looking for information on different types of poison, especially uncommon/non-popular poisons and poisons that cause illness rather than death. Where could I find such information? I have been doing research, but am in need of some new sources.

Do you know of any good sources or do you know of any interesting poisons? Please share.

  • Is there a poison that can cause a chronic or terminal illness with long-term exposure?

This is for purely hypothetical reasons. Is there such a poison that would not create symptoms immediately, but with time will create a serious or terminal illness?

  • Is accuracy in fictional medical TV shows important?

In shows such as Grey's Anatomy, House, ER, Royal Pains, Private Practice, etc. Is it important to you that the facts are accurate, or at least plausible?

I know these shows take everything to the extreme for the sake of entertainment, but is it important to you that the medicine is portrayed realistically?

  • How important is plausibility in movies?

This is kind of a broad question. Obviously there are many types of movies, and I understand how it is perfectly acceptable to make **** up in certain circumstances. Sci-fi and fantasy, for instance, are completely falsified and created. That's fine. But if you are watching a movie that overall is very plausible - like a romance or a drama - would it bother you if the smaller details were complete BS?

Specifically, if there were a medical element in the movie, would it bother you if diseases, medicines, etc. were completely made up?

    Hope I'm being clear enough.

    Thanks.

  • How important is plausibility in movies?

When you watch a movie, how important is it to you that the events are plausible? Sure, there wouldn't be much of a story if everything was commonplace. But is it important that the events are at least possible?

Does it bother you when things are completely made up? Especially in movies or shows that focus on doctors and medicine, is it important that the diseases and illnesses featured are real and are depicted realistically?

    thanks

  • Can I use these names for characters without it seeming like I've stolen them?

I've begun writing a story, and I wanted to name a brother and sister "Tobias" and "Hazel." However, since I have chosen those names I have discovered that Tobias is a main character in Divergent and Hazel is the main character in The Fault in Our Stars. I wouldn't mind still using these names if those two books weren't so popular (and both becoming movies, I believe).

If I go ahead with these names, could it seem as though just took names from other books?

Or will it not matter by the time i complete my story (I've just begun, and imagine it will take at least a year to complete)?

    Thanks!
