  • How do I stop add-ons from slowing down certain specific sites?

I subscribe to several newspapers on line. Simply turning the page (i.e clicking on an article I want to read) has become laborious as something, possibly advertising material, seems to take for ever to load and it is up to 5 seconds before I can use the mouse cursor and scroll wheel, despite the page being right there in front of me. How do I speed this up?

  • How do you use the new Yahoo Answers site?

I cannot access the different categories since the old green pages turned to the new blue ones. Clicking on "Entertainment and Music" does not lead to a choice any more. Where are the lists of different music genres?

  • Where can I find the version of Blueberry Hill by Louis Armstrong with the trumpet solo?

I already have 3 different solo-less versions of Blueberry Hill by Louis including the original 45, a straightforward re-recording on a "Plays the Blues" LP and a bad softer loungy version on a compilation CD.... but I have heard another version which includes a killer trumpet solo. Does anyone know when, where and with whom this version was recorded and on which album it can be found?

  • Why does my IE Favorites Bar appear or disappear seemingly at random?

I never know if my favorites bar will be there at the top of my screen when I log on or I will have to go to Tools and click on it (yet again....) to have it appear. The Lock Tool Bar option seems to make no difference. How can I stop this minor but irritating inconsistency? (Please - no comments about IE 9 and 10 suck so use Chrome, Firefox etc. - I use them all).

  • Best UK Blues Boom gutbucket blues track?

    - I would love to know of anything that beats or even equals Climax Chicago Blues Band "St. Michaels Blues" from "Tightly Knit".

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUFT2uMzexc

    - Must be 12 or 16 bar, loud, guitar-driven, slow and British circa 1965-74 era.

    - It will probably feature an original late 50's Les Paul.

    - Led Zeppelin's "Since I've been Loving You" is already a a close second.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bkjv9SscotY

    - John Mayall's "Have You Heard" is third on my list

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUFT2uMzexc

..... - now please give me some more...

    - listen to all 9 minutes with headphones - loud

  • Why did some USA train steam locomotives of the 19th century have the distintive conical funnel smokestacks?

Why did some USA train steam engines of the 19th century have those upside-down conical smokestacks(seen in nearly every western movie) but none in Britain (where the steam locomotive was invented)? What additional function did they perform?

  • Dr.Hook and the Medicine Show track - which album?

I heard a track on the radio by Dr. Hook about him in the persona of a homeless or lonely person, sitting in a cafe and watching the waitress - or something similar - but cannot find which album it is or the full title. Any suggestions?

  • Why can I not stay logged in to Answers?

For rthe last few weeks my PC running IE will not stay logged in to this site. I have no problems with many other sites after clicking on "Do you want to remember your log-in details?" or similar queries like "Do you want to remember this password?" - but not for Yahoo Answers. All the right cookie boxes etc seem ticked and my browser does not delete any other passwords when I close it. Any suggestions?

  • What does a "High Performance Alert" or "High CPU Usage" mean"?

I have an Acer Aspire One Notebook for use whilst travelling.Windows 7. IGB DDR3 Memory.

Everytime I use it, purely to access email and sometimes Answers (like now) using IE, the "High CPU" message pops up after about 5 minutes. What does it mean? Is it important/should I worry? How do I "fix it" - assuming it needs fixing?

  • Best Kinks track on vinyl or CD?

What is the best Kinks track on disc (vinyl or CD)? Note; not their critically acclaimed best song, not the one that sold the most or made the most money, not your personal favourite nor the most played (though it might be... )- but the best recording/presentation of a Kinks song (i.e could be an original or later cover/live version - surely enough hints by now....). I have an opinion but will keep it in reserve for now.

  • What is wrong with my fridge?

Approximately every 3-4 days, quite predictably, I find a big pool of cold water in the bottom of the fridge at the front (none at the back) which has usually poured out onto the floor. After cleaning it up everything is dry for another few days, then the same thing again. There is no constant slow drip, it seems to build up to a critical mass then - whoosh- out it comes.

I cannot find any obvious on-again, off-again, blocking drainage hole from the freezer but am propbably looking in the wrong place.

  • Do Macs have as many DNS problems as PCs?

I have a new PC laptop (Toshiba Satellite MS7 usinf IE9, Chrome and Firefox) but cannot overcome repeated DNS failed website access messages irrespective of browser. I have purged the DNS cache, reinstalled my router after direct communication with their chat line, spoken to my ISP, run Norton Security as installed plus their free super scrubber, tried PCFix, registry clean and many more.

I still get DNS messages that I nevewr saw previously even with the old Acer Aspire at the end of itslifespan that this one replaced.

I am seriously thinking of throwing in the towel and switching to a Mac. Will there be any improvement or is it just that I have a lemon PC and should go back with my warrantee and extended service agreement?

  • How do I know which add-ons are needed and which are optional?

I bought a new laptop running Windows 7 after my older model using XP burnt out. I am repeatedly prompted to choose or disable add-ons "to make the computer run faster", but I don't know how to make this decision - it was not an issue with my other machine. As is always the case with Microsoft there is an assumption that everyone knows more than they really do, firstly no explanation of what an add-on even is, and secondly no links to an edeucation site.

  • Why do I never get the "No Best Answer" option for my questions?

I see the "No best answer" option on many other questions I answer - but it never comes up on my own. I have never had the "Not doing it for you?" prompt. Why is this? Where do I find it - it's not in any drop down box. I have reviewed this question in the already asked section and many people responded by saying that it is always at the bottom of the page and you simply click on it - but it isn't. The tone of their answers often suggests that those of us that don't get this option must be blind and/or stupid.
