  • Why don't domestic criminals use hand grenades more often?

Seriously, I'm curious. It seems that you hear about drive-by shootings and gang shoot-outs all the time, often making use of illegal automatic weapons. Yet I can't ever recall hearing about hand grenades being used in common criminal activity. Wouldn't big powerful gangs or mob outfits want to use them to throw at each other? I can't imagine that they would be hard to obtain if the criminal underworld wanted to use them.

Very morbid question, yes, but this one has always bugged me! :]

  • What should a n00b know about Battlefield 1942?

I'm considering buying the original Battlefield 1942 game. (The original, because it will run very fast on my machine). I've always been a little shy about online gaming, though. I don't want people to yell at (or take advantage of) me on account of my n00bishness. What should a complete newbie know before playing this game online?

  • Does anything strike you as odd about the following sentence?

"In your infinite rationale, please explain to me why I'm wrong."

Does anything seem awkward, out of place, or grammatically incorrect about the above sentence? If so, why?

    Thanks!

  • What's this weird Google Maps object in Libya?

At approximately 27* 39' north, 22* 30' east (I think that's right), there's some kind of great big cloud of smoke and fireballs in Eastern Libya. Looks like an airport or something. Does anyone know what happened?

What's more, there's big fields of huge green dots slightly to the east. Anybody know what those are?

  • Do you ever visit the American Nihilist Underground Society website?

If so, what do you think?

I think it's a load of crap (pun intended). It's what happens when you take the atmosphere of heavy metal and rationalize it into some kind of philosophical ideology.

But I wonder if anyone else has run into them. :p

  • Is "Grooveshark" any good?

So I had never heard about Groovershark before. It looks pretty cool. I'm liking the idea of free streaming. I'm seriously considering making an account.

I also heard a rumor that, if you upload tracks to them, you can earn free downloads. Is this true?

Has anyone encountered any downsides while using this service?

    Thanks. :)

  • Honestly--how often do you vote for your own answer?

How often do you vote for your own answer as "best answer?" I do it around half the time...I usually pick my own unless there's an obviously better answer out there. :p

    Self explanatory.

  • Negative aspects of modern Sweden?

Lately I've been wondering what life is like over in Sweden. I'm curious because Sweden is statistically the most secular, irreligious country in the world. It also seems to be the most social-democratic.

So are there any downsides to living in such a progressive nation? I hope this doesn't sound rude. I'm just curious what Swedes (or non-Swedes) think of this radical social structure.

  • Which has faster guitar work: thrash or death metal?

Pretty self-explanatory. You could tell me just to listen to the music, but I don't have experience in playing metal and I can't always tell whether some really fast pulses of fuzz are lots of notes played fast, or a few notes played with vibrato or bending or something. I get the fact that it will vary from band, but I'm not sure if there's a trend there.

So, odd question, but: "Which metal genre has faster guitar work: thrash or death metal? Or are they the same? etc."

  • Which is better: Rhapsody or Napster?

Which online music store has the superior subscription service, and why? (I'm referring to the NEW Napster, of course). Not sure which one to get, if any.

  • With "rhapsody to go," will I still have to pay for songs before burning them?

The "Rhapsody" online music store is offering a subscription service called "Rhapsody to Go." One apparently receives access to all their tracks for full-length online streaming. However, I'm not clear on whether one must still pay, per track, in order to download a song and burn it to a CD or MP3 player. That's how it works at ITunes, etc..

So, will I have to pay extra, per track, in order to get music onto portable devices, or is this covered by this subscription plan? I'm just curious if any Rhapsody users know the answer to this question.

By the way, if anybody has general comments about Rhapsody, I'd be eager to hear them. I've always thought the RealNetworks company was a little shady sometimes and I'm not sure whether I should subscribe to Rhapsody. It looks very attractive.

  • Is pornography bad, for any reason?

I'm just throwing this question out there, looking for people's opinions.

Interpret "bad" however you like--bad for society, bad for the viewer, bad for the viewed, morally evil, disapproved of by God, whatever. Respond from whatever perspective you like--religion, philosophy, science, etc.

    So, is pornography bad?

  • Is CDBaby a reputable company?

Pretty self-explanatory. I want to buy a certain CD from the website "CD Baby." They look pretty legit, not at all like a scam, but I just wanted to see if anybody here has had good (or bad) experiences with them. I just don't want to have someone sucking out my (not-so-)hard-earned cash through the interwebz. :)

  • Dressing for an orchestra?

If I show up for a performance of classical music by a symphony orchestra in a large American city, and I wear a nice clean polo shirt tucked into some sweat pants, will people glare at me and/or kick me out? I would love to hear some classical music played live, but frankly I'm a lower-middle class guy and I'm afraid people will snoot at me. Does anybody have comments/experiences/suggestions/whatever?

  • Is the word "lulz" annoying?

The word "lulz" invaded my vocabulary after seeing the famous "Fox news investigates anonymous" video. Now I use it all the time, when typing on the internet and even in speech!

But is anybody getting tied of the "lulz" craze yet? I can see how it would get old.... :p

  • Should I feel guilty about falling asleep while listening to great music?

I've discovered that often, when I try to listen to serious, artistic music (like classical music), I doze off after a couple minutes. I suddenly realize that I've been thinking absurd, dream-thoughts and the music is still coming in through the CD player. Makes me feels kinda bad cause it seems like I ought to be focusing on the music, which in many cases is supposedly awesome. Maybe I just don't like the music, but maybe I'm missing out! Comments? Suggestions?

I read in a book about classical music that classical music recitals used to be incredibly long--concertos and symphonies for hours on end. I don't know how the audience focused.
