  • How to determine intermolecular forces?

Ok, how do you determine exactly which types of intermolecular forces are prevalent in molecules, and do you always have to have at least a pair? Btw, I've got the different types and whatnot, I'm just looking for how to assign them. Thanks.

  • Hmmm...I'm having a little trouble with this Qu'ran verse?

[9:5] Once the Sacred Months are past, you may kill the idol worshipers when you encounter them, punish them, and resist every move they make. If they repent and observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and give the obligatory charity (Zakat), you shall let them go. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful.

Can anyone help me understand what the great and peaceful Prophet Mohammed means exactly in this passage? I'm afraid I'm a bit confused...

  • Rise of A Particular Leader?

Okay, does anybody know who this is?

So this guy came practically out of nowhere to take power in a major country. A main platform of his was his vehement criticism of the current government, constantly bashing it and gaining support by tearing down an unpopular administration. While he was in reality quite radical, he de-emphasized his anti-capitalist agenda in order to gain the support of the middle-class voters. This however, was simply background. The central reason that this man was able to rise to power is that he emerged in a time of great economic crisis. Siezing upon the fears and uncertainties of the masses, he promised decisive action for the betterment of all. By ramping up public works programs and addressing massive unempoyment, he fulfilled the first part of his promise to bring about economic, political, and international salvation. Above all, he rejected free-market capitalism, advocating decisive government programs to bring about economic recovery. Positioning himself to gain middle and lower class votes, he promised them financial security, and they "voted for their pocketbooks." A master of manipulating crowds, he was capable of driving his audience into a hysterical frenzy. He strongly believed in the use of a few, simple slogans and catchphrases to arouse the fanaticism of his supporters. He gave many a sense of belonging and dignity.

This leader also was extremely popular with the youth of the nation. Young himself, this man declared that his movement was,"The organized will of the youth." A much larger percentage of his support base was under thirty compared to his opponent. National recovery, exciting and rapid change, and personal advancement were the appeals of this man to the youth. Another reason he came to power was the sense that true democratic government had broken down in previous years. Infighting amongst his opposition cleared his way to power, and his previously unknown background at first presented him as little of a threat.

The man was Adolf Hitler...Who'd you think it was?

  • Which type of person are you?

In my time using Yahoo! Answers, I have noticed that the forum attracts a very interesting range of people, and they can all be divided into a few categories...

    1) People who actually have real hands-on knowledge about what they're talking about, like doctors, or chemistry teachers, or authors (this is a very small minority)

    2) People who don't necessarily have direct knowledge of what they answer, but research it first and provide reasonable responses with sources

    3) Wide-eyed political junkies from all regions of the political spectrum (These ones can be particularly nasty, often resorting to trolling and name-calling, etc)

    4) Teenage girls asking each other if they're pretty or pregnant, and a smaller but equally active population of males doing the same

    5) Wanna-be comedians/point-hunters who answer/ask completely randomly and add absolutely nothing to Yahoo! Answers (I, for one, would fall under this category)

    6) Kids trying to get other people to do their homework for them

    7) People that are just plain bored and ask questions for other bored people to answer (and vice versa)

    8) People who try to escape my inescapable categories of Answer users

  • Muslims: do you accept Naskh?

For Muslim answerers only please, do you personally accept the concept of Naskh? If not, how do you explain the contradictions in the Qu'ran?

What is the general breakdown in the Muslim community of those who accept Naskh and those that don't (do more Muslims accept Naskh than those that don't, or vice versa)?

If you do accept Naskh, what do you think about its historical and directional implications?

  • New Michael Crichton Book...?

What's going on with Michael Chrichton's new book? It's supposedly finished and everything I've read says it was supposed to come out in December...but now its March. Did they make a late decision to cancel it because of his death or is it merely postponed? If so, any ideas on a new release date? Thanks.

  • Ridiculous "Question?"?

Anybody else here think that this guy's (and most likely "kid's" question) is completely ridiculous. The question's located at http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ai.js...

Regardless of your political beliefs, the "question" is not even a question! This guy/kid is simply using Yahoo! Answers to advertise his little demonstration and promote this event.

    Idk...does this bother anybody else?
