  • What is the best internship to get to prepare myself for an MD/MBA?

I'm a junior at an elite university, majoring in Economics, and I'm also premed. So far, I've done plenty of things on the medical side, and besides classwork, next to nothing on the economics side. I'm educating myself in Investment Banking and other finance fields over winter break to prepare for internship interviews in those fields. In general, I am applying for summer internships in finance (e.g. investment banking, asset management, insurance), consulting (healthcare or other), hospital (what types of internships do hospitals offer undergrads?), and pharmaceuticals/biotech/medtech. I plan on applying to medical school this summer, hopefully for a dual MD/MBA program. What type of internship, among those I just mentioned, would best prepare me for this path, and how can I make myself a competitive applicant for it? Thanks ahead of time for all your input!

  • What are the rules for test driving a car in Illinois for an adolescent?

A friend of mine from Ohio is 19, I am 20 (and from Illinois), and we would like to test drive cars just for the fun of it. I am under my parents' automobile insurance, and I'm fairly sure she's under her parents' insurance, too. How can we go about doing this? Would we need to have someone older than 21 with us who isn't one of the dealership workers? Would it have to be one of our parents? Are there any tracks near Chicago where we could possibly rent a car, sign a release form or something, and drive the car on the track to our hearts' content?

I'd like for this to happen within the next 3 weeks, so please respond quickly! Thanks everyone!

  • How can I get an 8-pack?

I'm 19, and I already have a decent 6-pack. But I'd like some exercise routine tips and especially some nutrition tips, because currently my diet is crap. I was just blessed with a fast metabolism, which I think is subsiding. I work out fairly regularly (3-4 times a week, around an hour each time), mostly strength training. Any good advice is appreciated!

  • Should a premed major in biomedical engineering or chemistry?

I'm a premed and can't decide what to major in. I'd really like to graduate in 4 years. Biomedical engineering and chemistry are my top 2 choices. I'm also considering Chemical engineering and Electrical engineering.

  • Electrical Engineering major and pre-med?

What do you think of this combination? My priorities are med school first, and then other grad school if med school doesn't work out for some reason. What is the EE curriculum like?

  • Can I keep research grant money that I don't spend on the research?

If I apply for a research grant, get it, and don't end up spending all the money on the research, can I keep what's left as pocket money? Or does all the money from the grant have to be spent in the lab? Or does my grant money automatically go into some general fund for the lab I work in? I'm an undergraduate, by the way.

  • What exercises can help me run faster, jump higher, and have more endurance?

I already pretty mucb know what I'm doing for upper body exercises, but let's face it; the real athletic prowess comes from a solid lower body. Right now, besides running, I just do ATG (butt-to-ground) squats for quads, hams, and glutes, and weighted toe raises for calves. But will these help me actually jump higher and be a better sprinter and distance runner? Any workout/cardio ideas for these fitness goals?

  • Foreskin won't stretch all the way...?

I'm pretty sure it's due to a combo of frenulum breve and just not enough foreskin. My main question is will it hurt during sex? My dad has repeatedly told me to not worry and that it will fix itself as I grow...but I'm 19. I'm pretty sure I'm done doing any growing.

  • Engineering or Med School: Should I keep my options open?

I'm torn between pursuing engineering and medicine as a career. I've always loved anatomy/physiology, medicine, the promise of medicinal drugs, and the like. But I also have a long history with building things, trying to figure out how things work, etc. Right now, I'm mainly trying to take the right classes to fulfill requirements for both in a timely fashion. But I've already struggled with engineering classes, so I'm worried that continuing to take them will screw up my GPA even more, which will kill my med school application.

I'm a rising sophomore, by the way. So any advice on what classes to take, and/or on which career to pursue? Thank you in advance!

  • What can I do with a Chemistry major?

My Plan A is med school. Always loved anatomy/physiology and medicine. But I'm a bit worried about the future of medicine in the US. As far as Plans B, C, etc., I'm not really sure. I've had the idea of drug R&D for a while, but I read earlier today that the job outlook for many laboratory workers is uncertain. I'm also fascinated by nanotechnology and its implications in drug delivery and medicine. How can I obtain a career in nanotechnology with a Chemistry major? By the way, I plan on going to grad school whether it's for medicine or industry; I'm not stopping at a B.S. regardless of my career path.

Some additional info: I enrolled at my university as a BME major, but decided not to take 2 essential pre-req engineering classes, opting instead for non-engineering classes (as I was contemplating a switch to a Chem major). Should I switch back to BME or go on with Chem? I'm a rising sophomore.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your time and answers!

  • Why can't I increase my dumbbell weight?

About 3 months ago, I got into a solid workout routine, making it a habit to stop by my college gym and lift for an hour a day at least 3-4 days a week. Most of my sets (for all body parts) involved 10 reps, no matter what the workout was. About 6 weeks in, I hit 40 lbs (dumbbells) for flat, incline, and decline benching. 4 weeks later, my routine kind of petered out, and since then, I've worked out maybe 5 times only. I'm still at 40 lbs for those chest workouts I mentioned. Why can't I manage to increase the weight and still do 3-4 sets of 10 reps a day?

By the way, I'm not always consistent in my sets. Sometimes I can plow through 3 or 4 sets, 10 reps each, with ease. Other days I can't go past 6 reps on the 3rd or 4th set.

Also, before anyone asks, I will admit that my diet sucks. In a nuthsell, it's 8 Eggo waffles (with maple syrup) and 4 or 5 eggs for breakfast, random stuff for lunch, whatever mom cooks for dinner (which is usually delicious and healthy; I'm spoiled haha), and cookies at 1 or 2 am while I play Battlefield 3 online with my friend. It may sound like a lot of (unhealthy) food, but don't be fooled; I'm a skinny dude, and besides breakfast and late night junk food, I don't eat that much.

So, any suggestions, comments? Thanks in advance, folks!

  • Good headphones for iPod?

I'm looking for great headphones and great earbuds, both of which cancel out outside noise, get good bass, and of course sound great!

Also, can I wear headphones while working out? Because if it's OK to do so, I won't buy any earbuds...
